rover.gif this day sticks out in my mind for so many reasons,i have never seen so many people on the streets off blackburn as there was that night when we arrived home from liverpool.to see blackburn town centre pubs full to over flowing was a joy, found a few old friends, one who had spent the whole 2nd half sat outside british homestores, with his head in his hands,he said you could hear the roar from the packed boozer's when the final whistle went,he said he broke down and cried.junior went to southport with his mum,in his rovers cardigan all 4 months old,she said a 20 stone bloke came over to him after rovers had won and gave him £20 to start his 1st bank account, too late for that but what a gesture.

MOST OFF ALL I WAS THERE tinykit.gif

my memories of that day......

0900hrs pre journey drinks in my back garden

1015 short walk to Leyland train station, couple of cans enroute - meet up with fellow Rovers fans

1145 appx - arrive Liverpool, straight into the Queens, £1.50 a pint if you are wearing a Rovers shirt

sometime later ! arrive at Anfield, enjoy the packed pubs, buy a few cans from the back of a van and get on Norwegian tv. the atmosphere is fantastic.

during the 1st half, I sit amongst the Centenary stand with my father in law (red) and my 3 best mates. Its agony then ecstacy as Big Al buries a beauty.

Half time 1-0 Rovers. Its all looking good as LFC are not really doing any harm and its a sea of blue and white to my right.

second half, it goes stunningly quiet as lfc equalise. My mate argues with a scouser and punches are thrown. Two thieves are ejected just as lfc steal the winner. I am hearing its all United as their game lies at 1-1. The old bill are wanting me to speak to them due to the arrests of the thieves but I aint interested at that point.

the whistle goes, My mate runs on the pitch and dances with G le Saux, snap crackle pop furhter outbursts from thieves as a Rovers fan is on their hallowed turf. I move quickly to remind them that WE are the only team to ever win the Premiership at Anfield and furhter blows rain down towards me as I defend my corner and bang 2 or 3 back. Ultimately the bigger of the two thieves is dragged over the fence and gets nicked for his trouble. Old bill 2 arrive and they get the full story. The theives are sorry losers and have assaulted me !

Old bill boss then makes me walk with him round towards the cells situated near the back of the Blue and White hordes, I pass them just as Tim lifts our trophy. What a selection of pictures on my new camera. I walk by and get a great shot of King Kenny and Ray. Give my story to the old bill and arrange to meet them 30 minutes later at a local nick. As I walk back to my mate the pictures of the Rovers fans are priceless. Uncle Jack provides a suitable picture with Alan Shearer and others. I even get to shake hands with Sutty and Rippers.

After leaving Anfield I met my father in law, he gloated about the result but it didnt matter, BRFC were number 1. I made my way into the nearest pub and wondered what it was I could do to avoid the old bill statement. """""" to it, onto the Queens and then the train home. memorable for the one man united fans who nearly had his face shoved through the window after gobbing into the face of a young Roverite mad.gif

Onto Leyland and the rest is history, a 48 hr party ended at Ewood in fornt of 30000 plus supporters.

WHAT A MEMORY tinykit.gif

The way I've always descirbed the closing minutes of this game:

"When the free-kick hit the back of the net right in front of me I immediately fell into deep despair - head in hands and devastated. Minutes (if not seconds) later I saw Alan Shearer look to the touchline and then start to celebrate - we'd done it. Utter joy - tears flowing. Didn't know my body could cope with 2 such dramatic extremes in such a short space of time - probably couldn't these days!"

As I child I saw my first game in January 1966. I always thought we could win the FA Cup - the smaller clubs did some times. I also believed that we may, at some point in my life, win the Leasue Cup - say no more. But THE LEAGUE?? That was for the big boys. Never ever dreamt it could happen - but it did. And I was there! I don't think anything will ever come close to that feeling. The FA Cup would be good though!!! biggrin.gif

What can i say..

Was working overseas so had flown back from West indies for last 2 games , barcodes at home and this one..

Arrive in Liverpool Saturday night...out on the town until early hours..after living on a caribbean island 9 miles long with 1 road for a year, the scantilly dressed scouse birds were a cultural shock!

Walking to the ground scousers kept coming up to me in my Rovers shirt slagging off the Mancs..

Get to my seat in the corner of the kop and centenary stand...surreal atmosphere as game kicked off, nobody wanted the home team to win!

Big Al scores but the team look tentative and as you know the scallies pull one back..Scousers forget the manc factor and start chearing their team on...

Free kick hits the back of the net..an empty feeling hits my stomach, so close so far, disbelief..then joy, is this really happening? am I dreaming...run on to the pitch, get swiftly returned to stand..

" congrats mate dont worry we will win it bac off you next year"

dream on scouser still waiting...

walk back to the car, people shaking my hand as though I'm a film star, had promised my fiancee I'd be back in Sussex that night as been up north since the barcode game a week ago....

What do I do..just got engaged, she hates football, back to Blackburn for a night to remember or drive back to Brighton?

Make the call - tears at the other end..###### better drive back...play we are the champions the whole way back...meet some mancs at a service station near warwick, a wry smile as I meet their eye...the cashier says congratulations...

Back in Sussex around 10pm..

She was an ex wife before the turn of the century and I missed the best night in rovers history...Big mistake not to go out in town but a great day!

First person I see in the lanes in brigthon the next day is wearing a rovers shirt, we shake hands knowing the little mill town dun good!

If you look at the back of that team photo you can see the stands are packed. Aren't some (on the right side) of those Liverpool fans as well?

Wonderful day and everyone but the mancs happy!

It's a blur. (AKA Ewood Parklife)

I remember the final whistle and the short period of hell that preceeded it.

Then it was a mixture of sitting down in my seat at Anfield and thinking to myself:

"We've won it, we've really won it."

"We've won it, we've really won it."

"We've won it, we've really won it."

"We've won it, we've really won it."

And sobbing like a soft git.

I also remember the Liverpool fans staying to applaud us as the trophy was awarded.

And the next week was my introduction to hating The Red Scum. Not one of them had the good grace to say "Well done."

I have the game on tape (courtesy of Sky Sports Gold from a couple of years ago).

My abiding memory of the end was the tv commentory

"This is like a fairy tale

They're 2-1 down and they're embracing!!" biggrin.gif

Beautiful day rover.gif

14th May 1995 was my 20th Birthday and what a present from Rovers!

I ended up listening to the end of the game on the radio as I was a student in Manchester at the time and I got into a ruck with a load of United fans in the local pub in the first half.

So my abiding memory is of Alan Green getting everything wrong and thinking that we had lost the title when the Liverpool winner went in. Those few minutes as I shouted at the radio seemed to last forever.

Followed that with a fantastic evening on the beers and curry around Manchester being congratulated by all the city fans. Best Birthday Ever!

Just trying to pass the last few minutes before the weekend, and I was trying to name the line up for that game. Have a feeling that Wilcox missed out that day due to injury. I also remember Berg playing the ball up to Shearer from right back for the goal This is the team I think started- ANY HELP GRATEFULLY RECEIVED.

GK Flowers

RB Berg

CH Hendry

CH Pearce?

LB Le Saux

LW Kenna?

CM Sherwood

CM Batty

RW Ripley

CF Shearer

CF Sutton

Thanks

That's the exact team that started, i think that Le Saux played LW and Kenna played LB though, could be wrong.

14 years on and still remain one of 4 clubs to have won the title.... :brfcsmilie::rover:

As a Rovers fan that's a great comment, as a football lover it's rather a sad one all things considered isn't it?

I remember going to Liverpool ticketless and some Scousers actually gave us their complimentary tickets for nowt. Ended up sat next to Mark Wright and going through every emotion it was possible to experience.

There was a helluva scrap between two Scousers in the pub after the game, but one thing that really sticks in my mind was the banner hung outside a house (possibly a farmhouse) just off the M61 which read "Congratulations Rovers, from BWFC", which I thought was fantastic, and brought a lump to my throat.

Queued up in the early hours for a ticket, my mate was about 20 people behind me- they sold out before he got to the counter!

What a day, went with the Des & Phil 007 Darwen Blues bus. Think we stopped in Ormskirk on the way down, the tension was unbearable in the boozers.

On the ground, constant rumours went up 'Andy Cole's missed a penalty' 'West Ham are down to 10 men' all rollocks of course!

To see the tears of the grown men around me will stay with me forever, as will the reception all the coaches got when they returned to Ewood, streets were packed!

Think I was a little too young to truly appreciate it and I think we all expected more success.

But still, the greatest day.
