[Archived] Tim Sherwood set to become Rovers manager

Recommended Posts

He certainly polarised opinion amongst the lads I went to games with at the the time. Some thought he could do no wrong, I thought he was often sloppy in possession and was a frustrating player, not unlike MGP in that respect. Sherwood was not as good a midfielder as Batty for me, certainly not in terms of ball retention.

As for the rumours, anything that eminates from Talksh1te and in particular that cretin Ian Abrahams must be treated with a pinch of salt.

At the time only Viera, Ince and Kean gave Batty a run for his money, he was very wrongly underrated by many, by far the best central midfield to play at Ewood for a long time, I say that even though I am a massive Tugay fan. Sherwood wasn't a bad player, certainly preferable to Super Atko, but he wasn't a patch on Batty, very good reason why Batty got 42 caps and Sherwood only got 3.

Exactly, I really can't understand how people can be happy with Bowyer or Sherwood, 2 rookies, we've had enough bleedin rookies to last a life time, the owners haven't learned a thing, but neither have a good manjority of the fans on here!

My thoughts exactly. Neither candidate is upto the task of getting us promoted.

We're going to be in this league for years to come, sad to say.

i`m still sure bowyer will be apponted(the prospective signings seem like his choices), but imo tim sherwood assited by peter taylor may not be a bad managerial combo for somebody if they are interested in teaming up somewhere. for those saying he has no experience of the championship, well neither did kenny dalglish or graeme souness for us or jean tigana for fulham. i`m sure there`s other examples too..

I'd guess at there being nothing in it

Remember when Shearers odds dropped to odds on from nowhere one night? Speculation I'd say

Exactly. If money goes consistently on one guy then the bookies will slash the odds to practically nothing. It happened to us with shearer, billy McKinley, and now sheerwood.

Another example yest someone I know said Gareth southgate was seen at sheff Utd when I looked his odds to take over were 40-1 so had a tenner on it looked this morn and they're 9/4. Doesn't mean he's anymore likely to get the job, and almost certainly wont, rather the odds are reflected by bozos like me who know nothing having a bet.

As a side note out of all the lower league teams without a manager I've noticed stevie kean isn't even in the 50-1 punt for any team. Strange that seen as though the cranks on ssn would have you thinking he's great !!

Bowyer should have been confirmed last Friday, along with the new season ticket details. For some reason this wasn't done (surprise, surprise delay at the Pune end of things). Club are hoping to get both these things confirmed today. However, with the owners having the final say on things, you never know who else is they are listening to so a bizarre decision is always possible until things are officially confirmed,

Sherwood was captain of a team that finished 4th/2nd/1st in successive seasons and how many England caps did he get? None!

When he was past his best and at Spurs he got his 3 caps!

That tells you all you need to know about the value of judging a player by the number of England caps he earned. If he'd play most of his football with Spurs or Manu, he would have had many more caps.

Sherwood was always under-rated by Rovers fans, as was Super Atko by the way.

Sherwood played in an era where England caps were harder to come by.

Steve Bruce captained Man Utd to titles and didn't play a single game for England, so I don't think the "big club" argument stands up.

Can't say I'm too happy about that. I didn't think much of him as a player, I didn't like his attitude. Even his mum wouldn't have said he was a grafter. One of the sort of players who rely on other guys to get the team a foothold in the game, then they play. At least we'll have Bowyer in the wings if we have to blow Sherwood out if things go tits up again.

He was such a bad player, he captained and lifted the premiership trophy.

Sounds like another power battle to me. Shebby wants Sherwood; Agnew and Shaw want Bowyer.

I'm guessing Shebby is back in favour so it's his decision who the next boss is. Nixon seems to think he wants Sherwood, the LT think Shebby wants Bowyer.

been approached by brighton according to glen

Brighton have not approached anybody yet. Not saying they won't look at Sherwood. But whilst Poyet is under investigation for possible breach of contract - they won't consider approaching another person, until the investigation is complete. As this would 'possible' give Poyet a get out clause. Poyet is contracted till 2016 - there maybe a club willing to pay compensation to release him from that contract.

are they (Venkys) that stupid? Still no news on season tickets the possibility of hiring another manager with Zero experience, do they not realise we will be lucky to sell 5000 season tickets if they make another stupid appointment?

Given the speculation yesterday and the story in today's Mirror I think it's safe to assume that Shebby is at it.

Spurs are going to want a few quid in compensation to let Sherwood go, why the heck don’t the idiots in Pune put that money towards paying a proven manager with experience?

Oh yes I know why, they’re thick as 2 short planks that’s why.

I wonder if Shebby is chasing Sherwood for a Director of football position. Kamy had mentioned that this was a structure rovers were rumoured to be considering and Sherwood was upset at Spurs not to be offered the DOF role. Just a thought.

Hmmmm! Not a bad thought though. ...........I have never been keen on the idea of using a D.O.F. approach to football management, but in the present circumstances that Rovers find themselves in, I think going that way with Tim Sherwood in the role, with his past experience and connections to Rovers and reputation in the game, we could just be onto a winner. At the very least it will keep Shebby away from getting his paws on that job, and that can only be a massive bonus!

Not arguing with ou R11 but isnt that the Shebby who said ''its Bowyer's job to lose''?? He is a liar and a cheat who wouldnt know the truth if it smacked him in the face with a snowball(wishful thinking).

If this Baz tard is anywhere near our club come August that's me out .I just can't keep not taking some kind of stance against this lot. BY keep going they think you are in favour of them and what they are doing.

I really think especially with so many local games, that we should form an '' AWAY ONLY FANS'' in protest .ie still there for the team but the other way round if you get my drift

Alan Nixon is saying that the Sherwood deal is being done above Shebby head. so the owners look like they are dealing with this personally..

could this be why Bowyer permanent manager announcement has be delay to see if they can get Sherwood in as manager.

So who is dealing with it then if it isn't Shebby ?
