  1. As a former teacher of mine, was sad to hear of Dave H’s passing, he was a lovely, much respected fella. Up from London for a different funeral I heard Dave’s service was held the same day and very well attended.
  2. Almost a bizzarre Bolton injury on Tuesday night. Was cycling past the Marriott hotel near Canary Wharf, and had to swerve to avoid some idiot larking around in the road. Spotted he and his mates were wearing BWFC gear, and that they were unloading from their team bus. Considered picking some speed up and going on another charge, but didn't want to damage the bicycle . Must have traumatised the Trotters though as they lost to Charlton!
  3. To be fair, maybe the comparison is with the post tragic accident Matty.
  4. With the number of matches played recently, I'm worried about it going to extra time in the cup game tomorrow and more niggling injuries to worry about. Maybe a few Hannibal Lecter nibbling impressions by our players would work if their marking gets a bit tight.
  5. "At the end of match I (Mijalovic) tried to ignore him, but he came closer and started to wag his hands in front of me." Strange as the footage shows what must have been Mijalovic running across to Benni after final whistle 'to ignore him'.
  6. The Selhurst Park Donkey Sanctuary has got to be up there. The only positive for visitors in that decrepit stand are the columns which blot out the view of the poor football.
  7. Given our fans good record of behaviour in Europe, it would be harsh to deny us away tickets. Maybe the club will give priority to the package tour people, but don't remember a reluctance to sell tickets to unofficial travellers since the '94 Trelleborgs match, and that was because of the nervy reaction with the reputation of English fans in Europe after the lifting of the post Heysal ban. Back then 'Uncle Jacks Unofficial Army' made do with the home stand, and yes were wound up by, but shook hands afterwards with the Trelleborgs fans. Wouldn't have fancied being in the home end at Sofia mind.
  8. 1993 Boxing Day OT, what would have been Gallacher's winning goal cancelled out by 3 late and consecutive decisions all given to the home team to comply with Old Trafford Rules. 1. Schmeichal appears to push the ball out for a corner, goal kick given. 2. Ball kicked up field, attacker and defender go in for the ball at the other end, corner given. 3. From the corner Hendry held down, balls spills out to Ince who scores the equalizer. Having to wait more than a decade for a win there, just made it worse.
  9. A Salzburg Card may be an idea. EUR 34 for 3 days covers public transport and either free or discounted entry to the touristy stuff. Been told the Salt Mines are worth a visit. Mark Hughes may even have the players working in there if they don't perform on the night. Wish I'd checked the Linz flights, as ended up with the expensive left over Stansted flights to Salzburg. Even considered Munich, which could have got to for about £110 return from my local 'City Airport', but thought on top of the 2 hour train journey from their central station to Salzburg, may have taken a while with connections to and from the airport.
  10. As a story behind the 'Norther Horde' banner, and if you don't already have it, could post you the Pall Mall Gazette 'Northern Horde' article.
  11. 'Flatback - 4' did the rounds a few years ago....can't remember who he played for mind
  12. I admit I'm no expert, but wouldn't expect bombers to draw attention to themselves. Much the same as not expecting to see burglars wearing striped jumpers, and carrying bags marked 'swag'.
  13. Thoughts go out to the victims and their families. Whilst the bombs killed and maimed indiscriminately however, the after effects are bound to be additionally suffered by some sections of the community because of their colour and religion. One of the targets, Edgeware Road is well known in London as popular for people from North Africa and the Middle East. As the people injured there, and the familes of those killed try to rebuild their lives, I've a feeling some may also be badly treated as assumed to be terrorist sympathisers. Muslims I work with were yesterday equally concerned that they could fall victim to a terrorist attack, but I got the feeling they were worried about wrongly being personally blamed for the actions too. If reprisals follow, the recruiters of the extremist groups will rub their hands with glee, if disaffected youth are isolated into turning to them for advice and support. Had mixed emotions late yesterday as happy family and friends appear to be safe, but sad and angry at the number of others who weren't.
  14. For selfish reasons went ape when the news broke yesterday. Living close to the site will know to expect years of disruption and inconvenience, increased property prices and the resource drain on other areas (sorry folks), but a boost for local labour opportunities, improved facilities and a massive lift to a run down area is brilliant. Oh yes, and my flat is now worth more
  15. Close with West Ham Ronin. Good for me as a ground within staggering distance. Having listened to the West Ham fans I know, this is potentially a good starting away fixture, as last season they weren't even that good a Championship side. Saying that, the last time we travelled there, we were their first home win in ages! Surprised for a change we haven't got Spurs for the final game this season.
