  1. I have always fondly remembered a Kevin Moran goal in the play-offs where the ball looped up near the line and he headed it and a couple of defenders into the back of the net. Was this against Derby or is my mind playing tricks?
  2. Does anyone know if you'll be able to buy tickets on the gate like a couple of years ago? I've just changed my flight so I can make this tomorrow. 2-0 Rovers Benni & Gamst to score.
  3. Couple of seasons ago after the United game that the scum stole in injury time. I was in the club shop stocking up on one of my rare trips to Ewood when Tugay came in with a Turkish mate and a young lad and bought the kid a load of stuff in cash, didn't try and put it on an account or anything. As a world-class footballer who has played all-over Europe it was great to see. I know that all Pro's are in it for the money at the end of the day but Tugays connectin with the club seems to be deeper than most.
  4. Chelsea got better since they moved the away support last year but Charlton and Palace have got terrible transport links and facilities. Personally I hate Southampton's new stadium, no atmosphere at all. having said that - sitting with the Longsiders at the last derby was about as bad as an away experience can get.
  5. Got to be Scott Sellars first and foremtost, a touch of class in a pretty messy division (and I've still got his signed shirt on my office wall). For completely different reasons I always enjoyed watching Hendry and Moran throw themselves in front of anything. Moran's goal against Derby when he took half the Derby defence into the net with him is still my favourite goal of all time.
  6. unbeleivably good performance. We've snapped out of our traditional crap run of form about two months early. Bring on maccabi Tel Aviv! (I've got to go there on business anyway)
  7. Which English fan would want to invest in a premiership club? You don't get rich by spending £2.5m on Kuqi (bless him). The sad truth is that being fabulously wealthy like jack was isn't good enough these days unless you are prepared to invest 3/4 of your wealth in the club. As Pleasure says the only thing in it for foreign businessmen is getting a high profile and respetcability. Man United are the only English club worth owning from a money-making point of view. There should be much closer scrutiny over who owns the clubs. Foreign billionaires with shady pasts would not be allowed to buy a british bank why should they buy our football clubs? Personally speaking I wouldn't want one of these guys anywhere near our club. If in the long-run that means I have to start going on away trips to Southend rather than Stamford Bridge then so be it.
  8. Chelsea have begun this season pretty much exactly how they left off the last one. Playing badly and losing to teams they shouldn't. I was at the City game on Sunday and although they won easily they did not play well and City were terrible. I think we can get a draw out of this one. 2-2 Benni and Roberts
  9. Can I just claim credit for giving everyone a 24h exclusive on this one?
  10. 14th May 1995 was my 20th Birthday and what a present from Rovers! I ended up listening to the end of the game on the radio as I was a student in Manchester at the time and I got into a ruck with a load of United fans in the local pub in the first half. So my abiding memory is of Alan Green getting everything wrong and thinking that we had lost the title when the Liverpool winner went in. Those few minutes as I shouted at the radio seemed to last forever. Followed that with a fantastic evening on the beers and curry around Manchester being congratulated by all the city fans. Best Birthday Ever!
  11. I was in Munich and Stuttgart over the weekend and there was a fantastic atmosphere. Sat amongst about a thousand Germans watching the Germany Vs Sweden game in Munich on a big screen wearing my England shirt and we didn't have any trouble. At the game on Sunday the atmosphere was so good we ended up having a kick about with the stewards after the game (which the English won). The only blight were the idiots singing the German Bombers song and cracking on about 'no surrender'. On the way back to my hotel there were even some fat idiots singing about gassing jews. 95% of England fans were top-class and mixing really well with the Germans. The other 5% are a shame on our country and the German police should be as tough as they need to be.
  12. Thanks for the effort Paul but you were cr*p.
  13. Before Sven we hadn't had a decent manager since Venebles. The fact that we have qualified for every major tournament under Sven is something to cherish given the failures in the past. I also think that this argument about England's 'golden generation' is completely exagerated. Sure we have 4 or 5 top quality players but compare the teams from 1990 and 2006 and exactly how much better are we? Maybe a little but not much. 1990 2006 Shilton Robinson Parker Neville Walker Ferdinand Butcher Terry Pearce Cole Gazza Cole Platt Beckham Waddle Lampard Barnes Gerard Beardsley Rooney Lineker Owen Sven's done a good job and lost two important matches both by very slender margins. Of course there are regrets but the influence of coaches at international level is nowhere near as important as at club level. The England 1st eleven picks itself, all the coach can do is decide what place on the field to make them all stand. For the same reasons Steve Mclaren is not a disaster. By all acounts he is a very good coach and he's got the respect of the players. I wouldn't want him managing Rovers but I don't mind him managing England.
  14. Tommy Smith This guy on ESPN takes the biscuit. He clearly has no idea about football. 'The auld onion bag' indeed... winds me up no end when I'm in the US.
  15. I'm taking a punt and going out for the semi's and the final. I'll happily watch the group games from the Pub. If noone else is there can I take the BRFCS flag to the final? Edit - I only have tickets if England are in it!
