> André Ooijer

Andre Ooijer is a defender from the Netherlands who can play either in central defence or at right-back. He joined the club in the summer of 2006 for a fee of around £1m from Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven, stating that he wanted to test himself in the Premiership.

He initially struggled to adjust to the pace of the Premiership. His debut was a baptism of fire against then-Champions Chelsea. A nervous performance was accentuated by his failure to contain Didier Drogba - the Ivorian shrugging him aside en-route to scoring a second goal. Eventually Ooijer looked more at home and began to show why he has been captain of his country. Unfortunately for Rovers and himself, he broke his ankle in January 2007 in a match away at Manchester City.

Ooijer has started the 2007/08 season at right-back following the emergence of the Samba-Nelsen partnership. He scored his first goals for the club in pre-season against Arminia Bielefeld and Preston North End.
