Whilst it seems that most people only know one verse of this, there are in fact 20 odd verses and many Rovers fans have witnessed Macky reciting them across Europe. It is of course sung to the theme of The Wild Rover. At the start of the 06/07 season, the club acknowldge this being a fan favourite by playing The Dropkick Murphies version of The Wild Rover in the prematch build up (knowing that Rovers fans would sing thier modified version of the lyrics) [edit] Short VersionThere's an ale house in Burnley I used to frequent, I met Stevie Cotrill, his money all spent, He asked me to play, I answered him "nay", 'cos I'll hate Burnley Bastards, 'till my dying day. and it's no nay never, no nay never no more 'till we play Burnley bastards, no never no more Several varients of the lyrics have been heard, the most comon being the 4th line changed "When we play Burnley Bastards" and the third being "He asked me to pay" (rather than play). The song is often followed up with the following chant What do you think of Burnley ? Shit What do you think of shit ? Burnely Bastards, Twats and cunts Fannieeeees Which in turn is sometimes followed with We hate burnley and we hate Burnley We hate burnley and we hate Burnley We hate burnley and we hate Burnley We are the Burnely, haters [edit] Full VersionCurrently no known document record of the full version exists, however the next few verses are believed to be as follows. I showed him a trophy so shiny and bright, And Stevey's eyes opened so wide with delight. I told him, "We won cups and shields of the best; I'll take you down Ewood and show you the rest." Chorus He went back to Burnley, confessed what he’d done, And asked them to pardon their prodigal son. But Burnley's 5000 are packed in Turf Moor; They'll still say there were 10000 more Chorus I've followed the Rovers for many a year, And I've spent all my money on tickets and beer. Still Burnley's 5000 are slumped in the Turf; They'll tell you that they're the best fans on the earth. Chorus We went back to blackburn our colours held high, We told everybody that Burnley did die. Into the town centre the Rovers did rome; The best Christmas ever, just let it be known. Chorus
