Many rivalries have existed across the years

[edit] Historic
  • Blackburn Olympic While Blackburn Rovers have been national champions on three occasions, there was once a time when they were not even the greatest club in Blackburn.
  • Darwen In the early years of BRFC's existence there was a considerable rivalry with Darwen.
  • Oswaldtwistle Rovers Although they may have been a local town, Oswaldtwistle never managed to give birth to a team that could ever even hope to rival Rovers.
  • Witton FC Witton were one of a number of local rivals to Rovers in their early days. They played in the grounds of what is now Witton Park.
  • The Three Clubs of Accrington One town that will seemingly never give up on seeing league football is Blackburn’s neighbours to the east, Accrington.
  • Blackburn Park Road Blackburn Park Road was one of the foremost of the teams that sprung up around Blackburn in the 1870s
[edit] Modern Day
  • Burnley Blackburn's rivals for much of the modern day BRFC but many fans ignored them in the 90's dismissing some claims they have always been seen as rivals. In 2000 hostilities renewed to some extent and some people believe they should be seen as rivals. Others believe they haven't been worthy of such status since the 80's.
  • Manchester United Regarded by some as the rivals for the "new" Blackburn Rovers. Jack Walker disliked them to such an extent that he refused to sell Alan Shearer to them. Peter White also said the club should never be forgiven should they sell Shearer to their most hated rivals in reference to Man United. Considering Rovers play in the same league at present several fans believe Man Utd should be seen as the current main rivals of BRFC.
