Tony Parkes, nicknamed “Mr Blackburn” was employed for over 35 years by the club, as a player, coach, assistant manager and caretaker manager.
Signed from Buxton Town, as a striker in 1970 for a £3000 by Eddie Quigley he was converted to a midfielder following the appointment of Ken Furphy as manager.
As a result of injury Tony Parkes retired from playing in 1982, however he remained at the club until 2004, serving the club as a caretaker manager on six occasions.
During his time at Rovers Tony served no fewer than 15 different managers, won four promotions, suffered three relegations, made 404 senior appearances and scored 46 goals.
Tony Parkes is currently assistant manager at Blackpool.
