Brett Michael Emerton He was born on the 22 February 1979 in Sydney, Australia. Club Career Emerton is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Sport and began his career with the National Soccer League team the Olympic Sharks in August 1996. Playing 93 games for the Olympic Sharks (later to be renamed Sydney Olympic) he scored 16 goals earning him a call up to the 2000 Olympic team. Being the captain of an Olympic team put the player in the sights of Feyenoord Rotterdam and he was purchased for 415,000 in August 2000. While at Feyenoord he won the UEFA Cup and played in 92 games scoring 11 times. Emerton moved to Blackburn Rovers in July 2003 for an undisclosed fee, snubbing some “bigger” clubs in the process.
