Our accounts never make for good reading, on the surface a profit sounds like a good thing but it masks everything else that happened during yet another turbulent season at the Ewood circus.
The Swiss Ramble tries to understand the owner’s frugal funding by looking at the club’s latest published set of accounts. They cover the period where the club failed to back a manager in a promising league position at Christmas (I know, that doesn't narrow it down), lost a manager as a result and finished 19th in the Championship beating a Leicester side already promoted as Champions and on the beach.
Rovers were one of only four Championship clubs that managed to generate a profit last season, though their £3m was surpassed by Southampton £17m, Watford £13m and Coventry City £9m.
The accounts also reveal that the club made a profit of £3m, one of only 4 clubs in the Championship to do so. While costs were down that profit was almost entirely made up from "player trading". Hat tip to Adam & Sammie.
