Valérien Ismaël: Blackburn Rovers Head Coach

I don't mind the guy. Would only replace him when the players are obviously not playing for him, no sign of that yet. Quite the opposite. -

I think he might already be in place. Certainly last week against Southampton there was someone I didn’t recognise (and definitely not Benson) on the touchline shouting instructions at every corner and I remember thinking that we must have appointed a new set piece coach -

Well I was of the opinion any points we took from Leics (a) and this fixture would be banked firmly in the bonus points account. So as much of a free hit as we can get. 3 points from next 2 games keeps us going in the right direction. - Today

A battling performance today ending in just a 2-1 defeat against Norton AND Stockton, that’s like 2 teams in one! -
Wolves are being linked with the re appointment of Gary O'Neil. A manager who was doing an atrocious job that led to Pereira coming in and saving them. Would be a terrible appointment.

suffice to say,if hearts don`t win the spl this year, then nobody will ever win it again, rangers a complete mess and celtic not far behind😉
-
It’s the whole defense Sgg, it needs a complete overhaul. Rangers just equalised with 10 men, how Celtic still have 11 is beyond me….

I acknowledged the job he did. I do get that he is loved up there. But it was 20 years ago that he left. Alex Ferguson walks on water on the red side of Manchester but I dont see United trying to get him back. My point was that no club should appoint based on nostalgia and former glories as a manager or player. You saying that isnt a counter argument, I have acknowledged that its because O'Neill (or in Rangers case, the suggestion was Ferguson) is loved up there that he has been appointed, certainly not on merit. He may well end up overseeing a successful season, in fact he probably will. Even with a for their standards frugal summer, and even with Hearts starting well, their resources in a poor league will likely make the league title a formality.

Lets start with this ☝️ Martin O'Neil walks on water in East end of Glasgow, with comments like this, you clearly don't get it.

To say we have our share of big lads we don’t defend them very well at times. We got lucky with that lad interfering with a header that looked like going in. That goes in and yesterday’s result could have been different. The same centre half got on to the next one as well. -

Ismael has had to think quickly when most of last seasons team more or less vanished. He’s had a good look at who can do what in which position with the new guys and he’s come up with the current 3-4-1-2. It suits the skill levels of the players we have. We need 3 centre halves because none of them are good enough to play well consistently in a 2. If frees up our two full backs to do what they do best which is to play as wing backs and attack. Also having two players up front helps because none of our existing strikers thrive playing up there on their own. I think playing Ohashi and Gudjohnsen is the best way of scoring goals. We just need Cantwell back as the one behind the strikers and I think we have a good shape and a really coherent way of playing. If we still had Trav and Tron in centre midfield we would look better still. -

Its not about comparisons to last season although sometimes it is relevant. You dont like it because it opens the door to pointing out faults with the club. And its not just about having a certain number of players. We have a void in quality with Hyam leaving, we dont just need to bring back O'Riordan who was nowhere near our first team when here, he needs to be replaced properly. Our lack of depth in defence and lack of quality in depth in midfield is just down to poor recruitment. Spending £2m on Tavares was really poor as was signing a player with a long term injury. We also have players in Gueye and Kargbo who have just been really poor signings by Gestede. I agree that changing formation has worked out well short term but it naturally causes issues with the balance of the squad that will need rectifying if we are to commit to it. It also makes players like Ribeiro and Pickering surplus to requirements as they dont fit the system. I also cant see where Henriksson fits in with Cantwell and also Miroshita in the same position. -
Looking from the outside there are some similarities at Wolves to our own problems foreign owners selling their best players and replacing with unproven players and rinse and repeat.

expect an unknown overseas head coach at Wolves.

Ismael had to change tactics and formation in order to get results. That's clearly the right thing to do The team is different to last season, playing a different way and different player. don't get this obsession of your comparing to last season team. in the first 12 games of this season to last, its more to last season team. Hardly ground breaking is it. Maybe move on with that point. Yes we need a Hyam's replacement in the last window and I hope we bring one in or recall Connor O'Riordan back to the squad. That's give us 5 which is more than enough. I don't your points on Baradji or TGH to be honest. its pointless comparing to Travis. Travis wanted out and he gone. Tavares has been disappointed so far yes we need another striker in as discuss previously -
