  1. 1. Would you have signed Dunn?

    • Absolutely no way. The guy simply isn't fit enough for Premiership football

    • It's a big gamble, so probably not.

    • Sitting on the fence here.

    • Yes, even if he can't regain full fitness, the presence of a true roverite will lift everyone around the club.

    • Brilliant signing, he should never have left.

No way Dunn is going to sign with Bolton..

if Rovers put the offer on the table I really think he will take it, unless of course Bolton are willing to offer him an insanely long deal worth either the same each year or more....which they might do. Is is prone to injury so I'm not sure anything over 2 years is a good idea :S

Do we know he's not got a clause?

Anyhow, just as Birmingham don't need to accept an offer, Dunn doesn't have to move to Bolton if he doesn't want to. He knows Rovers are after him, and he can quite simply say to Brum that he's not going anywhere other than Rovers and if they don't accept Rovers offer, he'll stay at St Andrews taking a wage and move on a free whenever his contract is up.

Do Birmingham cut their losses and sell to Rovers at a lower price than they were hoping, or do they hope Dunn will decide he quite likes the Reebok afterall?

I think big club can have 2 year extension option in his contract, which they might use in the summer so that Rovers or any other club have to pay money for him...

Dunn signed a 4 year deal in the summer of 2003 and within that deal there was the option of an extra year(s). However i don't see how this all works, because in theory he is in the last 6 months of his deal now, so should he not be allowed to negotiate a free transfer?

Birmingham would be stupid to keep him on for another year at the same wages just to spite us and miss out on over a million as well. Just can't see it. I still think Dunn has been very clever by talking to notlob and making sure the press found out.

edit: 53 starts in 3 1/2 seasons and 8 goals.

According to Bruce, the final 2 years would be at extortionate wages. Even the porn kings wouldn't be that stupid.

Correct me if i'm wrong... But isn't Notlob in Greater manchester? Even Horwich where their stadium is built is in Greater Manchester. How come all the papers call the a Lancashire Club? Or am I wayyyy off?

Edit: I know it used to be in Lancashire

Still is in Lancashire, as are Manchester, Liverpool, Warrington, Southport, Barrow and all the other places in my old school geography textbook .

The Times have reported that Brum accepted an offer of £750K plus another £500K after 20 games from Notlob. This has the ring of authenticity- the £1m + £1m was just BIG CLUB talk.

Dunny to arrive at Ewood on an undisclosed deal by Thursday is my best guess.

But surely.......... Bolton is the nearest club to his child! :rolleyes:B)

they will probably demand at least this from us, no way they're accepting a bid from us that are equal to notlob's bid..

Can't stand all this pussyfooting around. If Dunn is the man they want, then pay the million quid and sign him.

If they aren't sure he's the man, then move on.

Couldn't agree more Den, it's one million plus add ons IF he does well we're talking about, not five or ten mill.

If he passes the medical can't see the problem at all.

What's the alternative, wait until Jan 30th and realise we can't get him until July, leaving us with Savage (tottering on the brink of suspension) and Tugay (37 ish) for the rest of the season?

I guess it depends if Rovers have got anyone else lined up. If not then we have to sign Dunn, simple as that.

Problem is we now have no further time to make that judgement, we are probably talking tomorrow the deal with notlob could go through, but for some stalling by Dunny. So it's put up or shut up time for the board and they seem to be putting up, if only for the sake of improved attendance.

I also don't see why Brum would make it difficult for us to get him, sure they don't like us but if i were them i'd just rather be shot of him and have the money to bring in someone else. Rather than playing around and maybe scuppering both deals.

I agree, lets stop all this pussyfooting around and sign Dunny for £1M. He was a hero for many kids growing up who were my younger brothers age (they were about 14 at the time he broke into the first team) and although most have moved away from Blackburn, they still talk about him as their favourite.

Hughes has a world class fitness regime. Let's sign Dunny and go forth.

Whoever thinks we have better options around, stop fantasizing that the club will go and sign a 5 million pound midfielder or even the likes of Sidwell, or whoever. We wont. My guess is this is the best quality player we will bring in January if it happens. Mind you, I said quality.

Am I on my own here?

The local pie shops must be rubbing their hands in glee as must the assorted club owners and victuallers.

Dunny is not fit enough to play premiership football because he is not disciplined enough to look after himself - the last man to try telling him this was Graeme Souness - who knows a bit about what it takes to compete at the top level as a midfielder - and look how Dunny reacted, throwing his toys out instead of rolling his immature neck in, listening to good advice and getting on with becoming a regular England squad member.

We all love how Tugay has performed this season at the age of 36/37 - he can because he is so professional in every aspect of his approach to the game on and off the pitch. Can we say the same for Dunny?

It really hurts me to say it but if we buy Dunny back, it will just be another addition to the treatment room for at least half of the season uness he's grown up a bit. Now, please let me be wrong.

No DB you are not alone. You have perfectly summarised all the things I would have said. So I can only add that I (and the others also I would guess from the tone of their posts) take no pleasure in this situation. It is simply that we care more about the future of BRFC than fulfilling the ambitions of a local lad who initially made good and achieved his ambition to play for Rovers, but then was not strong enough to resist the temptations that his new found status and money brought him. So he wasted the opportunity that virtually any Rovers fan would give anything to achieve by not keeping to the necessary standard of fitness a professional footballer MUST have if he is to enjoy a full and productive career.

I will say no more as it really does pain me to have to talk about it.

I'm guessing it will be: £750k and a penny initial fee with the following to be sent to Birmingham dependant upon appearances:

- 22 green Bukta tracksuits, slightly worn

- A dozen rolls of barbed wire to keep the zulu's off the pitch

- A selection of classic bongo books and films to keep David, David and Karren happy

- Some unsold Graeme Souness books - "Souness - the Management Years"

That should swing it.
