nolan and roberts both read very well in their articles for the bbc website, not exactly deep philosphical statements or anything, but they both seem like pretty on the ball (pun intended) fellas.

Ripley had a degree in French or some such didn't he?

roy hodgeson seemed incapable of stringing more than a few words together on tonights commantaty however...

Hodgson is actually more or less fluent in Swedish, seen him on Swedish TV a few times as a pundit. Gotta give anyone who learns Swedish some credit, not an easy language. Of course, he's got a heavy accent, but that seems to be true for most Englishmen.

The language problem with Lukas Podolski is that he is actually Polish, but plays for Germany.

Wasn't the quality of his grammar etc she was complaining about but the fact that like a large number of players here too, he couldn't string a coherent sentence togehter

Gary Neville showing a TV crew round the kitchen his home (quite beautiful it was too) said he didn't know how to use any of the appliences.

I can't remember who it was but a footballer boasted once that he was so useless around the house that he tried to get channel 4 on the microwave.

My favourite story is about snooker pin-up boy Tony Knowles who was supposed to be a total F---wit.

I heard that he was on holiday in Spain with some mates from Bolton. On the beach 1 day he was tuning in his radio trying to find radio 1. When he complained about the lack of reception and his inability to listen to the latest pop hits from DLT 1 of his mates pointed out that he was on English batteries and needed to get Spanish ones to make it work. "Silly me" says Tony and off to the shops he trooped to purchase the batteries.

What a baloon!

This story is of course total heresay and in no way reflects my opinion or the opinion of BRFCS.

Former Liverpool & Republic of Ireland star Ray Houghton was on his radio show talking about 'how he`d only just made it to the studio in time'. He said he`d been playing in a charity golf tournament all day, in aid of a boy who was injured in a road accident. The tournament ran a bit late & he`d had to drive like a madman to get there on time. ;)

Arjan de Zeeuw of Wigan Athletic is a smart bloke as well..

He has a degree in medical science and became a professional football player quite late, after he completed his study. He is planning to go into sports medicine when his football career is over.

Another pair of silly planks at Portsmouth - Marc Wilson attacks team-mate Nugent with a lump of wood.

marc_wilson_633785008752353750.jpgdavid-nugent.jpg

The plank above on the left is Pompey defender Marc Wilson, who together with striker David Nugent on the right have both been fined two weeks' wages by Portsmouth for what the club says is a "serious breach of discipline" on a trip to Portugal.

It's reported that former Preston striker Nugent, who scored on his only appearance for England in 2007, was hit across the legs with a lump of wood by his team-mate Wilson after they became involved in a drunken brawl.

The pair came to blows at the club's hotel in Portugal after their 4–0 friendly defeat to Benfica. According to The Guardian, Portsmouth manager Paul Hart read the riot act to the pair and immediately sent them home after the incident.

We've previously had "The Nutter with the Putter" Craig Bellamy attacking his team mate John Arne Riise with a golf club during a Liverpool trip to Portugal - the Welsh thug launching his attack on Riise in a hotel room after the pair had earlier been involved in a drunken row during a karaoke night. And now we've got another silly plank in Marc Wilson, who decided to attack his team-mate by beating him with a lump of wood.

I occasionally read players giving a nauseating justification for their salaries being vastly higher than in years gone by. Such players claim they are "fitter and more professional than before" and so their high salaries are justified. And yet here we have two different players in Bellamy and Wilson, both earning tens of thousands of pounds a week at their clubs who both thought it was acceptable to get drunk and whack their team-mates across the legs.

We have louts like Joey Barton getting drunk and punching somebody's lights out in front of McDonald's. How is this being "more professional" than before ?

We're the mugs who help to pay the massive wages of these disgusting individuals and often they decide to treat us with contempt.

Thick selfish footballers.

Thick selfish footballers.

A few are thick and selfish. but not all of them. Look at the majority of footballers who help raise money for various charities. The number of footballers that pay a visit to the local hospital to put a smile on a sick childs face. We have a few idiots within the game, I agree, but majority of the players set a good example on and off the pitch!

True that. It's no different than calling lorry drivers stupid and selfish because some are careless drivers.

Eh? These guys are more qualified to drive than anyone else on the roads. If find them much better and safer drivers than the likes of the usual car drivers who tailgate you for sticking to the limit etc. Grrr...

You missed the point, didn't you?

To call footballers dumb and selfish is no different than calling lorry drivers the same because some are careless - or any other profession for that matter.
