You can't blame Bates at all for being excedingly cute, but the rules surely need looking at to prevent this happening again.

Rules were made to be broken I guess.... but this situation needs another ruling to stop it happening. What LUFC are doing by avoiding the proper punishment on a technicality is not in the spirit of the game and they should be hit with a 15 point deduction to deter any future shennanigins. Whether it would stand up in court is another matter but it really needs to do! The sleaze and conniving that we are currently witnessing daily is a slippery slope and ultimately very damaging to public perception and the very future of the game.

In fact fcku the points .......... relegate them and West Ham by 2 divisions as a lesson to all the 'fully legalised' crooks and gangsters that are infecting football.

I guess if nothing is possible legally that the simplest way forward would be for the boards of the other clubs in the division to form a unified alliance and agree to simply not carry out the fixtures next season against Leeds unless they forfeit the points. (same 4 WHU.)

I like your thinking.

If you think Leeds' move was shifty, Boston went into CVA during the second half of the game at Wrexham today.

They were winning 1-0 at half time sending Wrexham down at that point but Wrexham stormed back to 3-1 sending Boston down. So they went bust before the final whistle of the 06/7 season and took the ten points hit this season rather than next!

Boston..... another club that should now be hit with a 15 point deduction for NEXT season for trying to bend the rules.

Should have been kicked out of football a long long time ago.

Somebody can probably explain in more detail, but the reason they got promoted in the first place was bordering on criminal.

The BBC reported several days ago the Football League have written to both Leeds and Boston pointing out it is the Football League which decides when the deduction takes place. The timing of the points deduction is not determined by the dat of entering administration.

Regardless of that point, watching all this from the sidelines ~ Boston, Leeds, WHU ~ makes you realise how rotten English football is. It isn't enough to deduct ten points from these clubs. There is a list as long as your arm of individuals who should be required to respond to "the fit and proper" criteria to run a football club. People like Bates, Ridsdale, the previous WHU directors etc. should be banned from any connection with the game forever. Lets face it anyone with enough money can buy a football club, destroy it financially and then move to the next opportunity without any recourse.

I can't remember fully, but this quote from the BBC hints at it:

"In 2002 they lost out on promotion to the Football League on goal difference to Boston, who were later found guilty of improper payments to players - but who were deducted points from the following season instead."

Found it. Here's stuff about Boston. I had more than a feeling I'd find it on the BBC.

Straying from the general discussion but nevertheless on topic, there is an article in tonight's Yorkshire Evening Post listing the details of the clubs Company Voluntary Arrangement (proposed) with its creditors.

In brief it states that Leeds has total debts of £35m and net liabilities of just under £23m. A total of 1,350 creditors are involved with one BRFC being owed £221,196. The CVA proposal is that unsecured creditors will get 1p in the £, which if accepted by a 75% of the creditors would instantly cut the liabilities to something approaching a six figure sum.

The article states that £630,000 is owed to 7 former players and a further £357,000 is owed to other football league clubs (besides BRFC). It adds that under English rules all football debts must be settled in full before a teams membership of the Football League and Football Association can be transferred to a new company.

So it would seem that the club will have to be repaid if LUFC is going to exist in another guise next year.

The 10 point deduction whenever it occurs leaves you with the feeling that the punishment hardly fits the crime - if that's how you would describe it.

Finally, poor bl**dy creditors

The League have announced that a cut-off date beyond which the points deduction will transfer to the next season is being introduced following the Leeds and Boston moves this season.

However, no change to the Leeds/Boston situation so they were cute/got away with it.
