[Archived] Steven Reid

Recommended Posts

He hasn't been back to his best since he has returned to the team. But he has been out for a long time and has played more than he probably expected, due to our lack of midfielders. I think that he is improving slowly but for us to finish in the European places, we need players like Reid playing well.

Fluid on the knee - ends careers?!! ha ha ha!

Your funny! Hundreds of premier league players get it every week - its a minor issue in todays game! Its not 1900 anymore where medical science wasnt advanced!!

What's funny about Reid having done very little training in the last 10 days? How can a player dependent on covering alot of ground perform at the level required if this continues? Actually fluid on the serious as it indicates wear and tear causing inflammation. Sorry Hughesy but I have some medical knowledge and you're the one spouting rubbish.

Not sure what it is, but Dunn has long standing problem as well.

Tendinitis I think, which restricts him from training some days, and also can flare up during matches.

Tendonitis is the devils' curse. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG recovery (12-24 months) or a seriously shortened lifespan of the part of the limb involved.

When I first got here I started playin in a Mexican footy league in LA, I had totrain for a while to get to a reasonable level of fitness and got Tendenitis in me ankles. Doc said it's like Tennis Elbow but in the ankle, effectively ended any serious playing for me. Took about 30 minuts of playing tme and both ankles would swell like crazy and the next day I coul dnot walk

It's obviously not ideal, but most likely it's a pain barrier thing, at least to a certain extent. I've had this myself, and it went away quite easily when I got electric treatment on it. It's basically a pen which sends electrical shots, and it hurts like hell, but after a few solid treatments (2-3 weeks) it all went away. Inflammation can of course be caused by many things, but most likely it's a reaction coming from overburdening the knee after his injury. Not that strange, I guess. I'm sure he uses some sort of cooling gel and whatnot to keep the liquid quiet, with the medical staff over at Ewood I am sure he will be fine.

And that's without even considering it was a professional decision to free him from his international duties.

I'm a bit worried about reidy now, I don't recall reading about other footballers having "exploratory operations" to check that the cruciate is still ok after having recovered.....

Wouldn't worry, pretty sure our boy Laursen had it, and his played every single prem game this season. If it's a dodgy knee send him to the specialist that all the footy players go to...Steadman. If he can fix Laursens knee, Reid will be no problem.

I see Reid has been left out of Trapattoni's Ireland squad, does anybody know why this is? Despite his pretty dreadful form of late I still thought he'd be a regular for them.

As you and someone else pointed out, his poor form has probably cost him his place. If he were playing well, he would be one of the first players in there. Ireland potentially have a very good midfield of Aiden McGeady, Steven Reid, Andy Reid and Damian Duff. That's not to mention the possible return of Steven Ireland and one of Manchester United's brightest stars, Darren Potter.

Moz,what has Steven Reid done when he was played in midfield? injuries havent helped i suppose, but he has been fit for quite some time.and why if you a midfielder, then you are not allowed to defend.Midfielders are the work horses of a team, they attack, and get back to defend. Its easier for a midfielder to fall into defence when called upon, than a striker.Imo i would have had Vogel and Tugay in midfield, with peds and bents.Emo at right back....

Clearly Reid is no right back. And his form since his return has not warranted a start in midfield. Hopefully a good and thorough pre-season will see him regain the form he showed pre-injury.

He was a powerful central midfielder at one stage. Difficult to imagine now.

well lets go back before his injury-he was the heartbeat in our midfield-our best central midfielder by a mile..he gets injuried-has 14months out with a career threatening injury and people expect him to pick up where he left off..do you remember what he was like before his injury???

i think after a pre-season i think he could be like how he was..i think its abit unfair to judge a player after such a horrible injury-yes hes had games to get fit-maybe its a confidence thing..but fans getting on his back at games isnt going to help him

You have to keep in mind he has been playing a different role in midfield than what he used to play for us. We used to have Savage staying back quite often and giving Reidy the freedom to make those surging, powerful runs. It clearly worked for us as we achieved sixth with Reidy being instrumental in our success. This season he has been the one staying back when he has played in midfield.

I'd like to see Reidy given the chance to try out his old role next season, with Vogel alongside playing the more defensive role.

His first touch is so bad that his second is usually a tackle.

He panics under pressure.

He plays the ball backwards far too much.

He frequentky dives into tackles when there's no need.

If we want to become a top six club, he isn't good enough.

Have to agree with everything you have said here. Especially the last point. The number of times someone is one on one with him and he slides in and they just stroll past him is amazing. Granted like many have said he is playing out of position but really what is his position? Right wing? No thanks no pace and cant cross. Center mid. His head seems all over the place at times and too much going on there for him.

Having said all this though I would rather have him playing than Mokoena.

It's funny thinking about it really and I'm not being entirely serious, but maybe those totally against the sale of Bentley should think of this...

United were rumoured to be strongly interested in Reid after the season we finished 6th, I believe the figure being quoted was 8-10 million. We'd be very lucky to even get 4 now.

Benni last summer for at least 10 (Chelsea)...

MGP for anywhere between 8-12+ (Spurs mainly)...

Nelsen for 6 (Portsmouth)...

Duff, only had about one good season in him before injuries meant that he lost a bit of pace and became less effective...

Jansen, couple teams interested in him before the scooter...

Bellamy, Liverpool didn't use him much and did make a slight profit on him, but he's played very few games for West Ham this season...

Since our return to the premiership we've had a lot of players linked with big(ish) money moves. So far I can't think of one where we would have been better off keeping them. Obviously it's impossible to predict exactly what would have happened or what will happen (Nelsen, Benni and MGP could all return to their best form, Jansen and Reid might not have picked up their injuries, etc...). Interesting thought though.
