rover6
Not sure I agree that the England job is a no win situation. It's one of the biggest jobs in world football and anyone enjoying a degree of genuine success in the job will be practically able to name their price in any club job. In the (hopefully unlikely) event England came calling it would be like expecting Sparky to turn down ManUre. Rev, you are completely wrong there. For all the hype and pageantry of the Euros and World Cups, the qualifying campaign is plain drudgery compared to the weekly excitemen to club management. Wenger has always ruled himself out because he couldn't give up the day-to-day intensity of club management at a big club. The ENgland job is for an opportunist in search of a stepping stone (eg Shearer), a club management veteran with an eye on his legacy and his heart-rate (Capello...?), an inferior who can't believe his luck (McClaren) a deluded individual who thinks that it's a dream job (Eriksson) or an extreme patriot - maybe. JC4LAB
Beckham could make a good player manager for someone and maybe one day the job could be his..

Win the World Cup and it's the dream job. As for Sven, his club record was fantastic, so to put him into that category is harsh.
Exiled_Rover
Still not sure what's wrong with somebody doing it on a part time basis. Not Hughes mind, but y'know somebody else.

The deluded Mike Parry on Talksport wants him in now in a dream team with Harry Redknapp, beckham as player coach!

Or what about anybody who wants a few million per annum for doing about 4 weeks work a year. Anybody know how to get an application form?

Does anybody in football polarise opinion more than Sven?! Sven's club record in Italy is not as impressive as you would think. He was in charge of a number of hugely talented teams for many years (over decade wasn't it?) and had millions of dosh to spend and only won the league once. Once is enough, you might say but apparently, and I don't really follow Italian football, he's known over there as the "expensive loser" or something. I do remember Gabrielle Marcotti (for all his arrogance, he does seem to know a good lot about Italian footy) predicting Sven to flop as England boss, and decrying his record in Italy.
