Rovers will now play PNE in the Semis................Looks like Howarth wont be getting some time at Ewood tonight..................

THE SEASIDERS interest in the LFA senior cup ended on Wednesday afternoon when a youthful side went down 2-0 at Blackburn Rovers.

Steve Thompson and Tony Parkes had planned to the game to run the rule over deadline day signing Francesco Carratta but despite the best efforts of Pool secretary Matt Williams, international clearance was not received until midway through the second half. Carratta's absence saw Pool field just three recognised professionals (Jermiane Wright, Matt Kay, Ashton Bayliss) against a Rovers side that contained recent signing El Hadji Diouf, Welsh international keeper Jason Brown and Bryan Hodge who spent three months on loan at Millwall last season.

The hosts opened what was an evenly contested affair just after the half hour when Marcus Marshall put Rovers one up, moments later Pool were forced to make a change when Jake Forshaw replaced Ben Breakell.

After the break Rovers strength began to tell and Marcus Marshall scored his and Blackburn's second on 62 minutes. Both sides had chances to add to the scoring but the scoreline remained 2-0.

On the result Gary Parkinson said, "Blackburn had a strong team out and the younger lads will have benefitted from playing against the likes of El Hadji Diouf. Jermaine Wright and Danny Mitchley came through another 90 minutes which is important and the pair looked sharper than they did last week when we played Bury. No one could fault the work rate and endeavour shown by the lads although it was a little disappointing that we didn't get clearance in time for Francesco Carratta to play as he is chomping at the bit to be involved and prove what he can do, but he will be in training on Thursday and I am sure he will be pushing for a place in Saturday's squad."

Pool: Halstead, Breakell (Forshaw 33), Ralston, Fishwick, Bayliss, Eastham, Foster (Bradley 67), Kay, Mitchley, Wright, Almond Subs Not Used: Potts, Newsham

Rovers: Brown, Kane (Jones 69), Hall, Gunning, Winnard, Hodge, Marshall, Marrow, Blackman, Diouf (J Santa Cruz 60), Haworth (Potts 81)
