[Archived] Premier League Predicition Game 2009-10

Recommended Posts

Maybe it's a little early to get this going but quite a few people are guessing in the relegation topic so I'll put it up now. I'll do the scoring this year as Philly Rover doesn't seem to post any more. And, as I'm doing it, I get to decide to the scoring rules! Great.

+1 point for every position wrong for each club (e.g. guess Arsenal 4th and they come 6th, +2 points)

-1 for each club correctly guessed to be relegated

-1 for guessing the champions

-1 if you get Rovers' position spot on

The person with the lowest score wins.

I've added the extra 3 because, if you're anything like me, you'll think hard about who will go down, think who will win the league, have a good think about Rovers then spend about 20 seconds filling in the mid-table gaps, so I've tried to reflect that in the scoring a bit. We can happily modify that before the season starts though if people wish so suggest away.

Feel free to change your guesses up until the opening day of the season, I won't record anything until the season starts. Here's mine:

1) Man Utd

2) Chelsea

3) Liverpool

4) Arsenal

5) Man City

6) Everton

7) Tottenham

8) Aston Villa

9) Sunderland

10) Rovers

11) West Ham

12) Fulham

13) Bolton

14) Wigan

15) Birmingham

16) Stoke

17) Wolves

18) Portsmouth

19) Burnley

20) Hull

Edit: Can a kind mod please fix my spelling mistake in the title? Actually, can it be changed to 'Premier League Table Prediction Game'. Thanks.

I'm surprised everyone thinks United will still win it this year.

I think they'll just do enough, but only because the other clubs aren't doing enough to capitalise on Man Utd's weakening.

I have major doubts whether Ancelotti is suited to the Premier League, especially if he tries to play with a very narrow team like he did at Milan. They're quite an old side now as well and I don't think Zhirkov is enough to freshen them up.

If Liverpool built on what they achieved last year then they could win it, but so far they still haven't got any backup to Torres, still need a good wide player and now look like losing Alonso. Glen Johnson isn't going to win them the league.

Just a feeling I'm getting about Notlob... don't think Everton will have a good season either - peaks and troughs.... Coyle will keep the dingles up then bugger off somewhere else....

I think having Essien healthy for the entire season (if he doesn't get injured again) will make a big difference for Chelsea. People talked about how well they played under Hiddink, but most didn't make the connection that he had Essien most of his time in charge.

Chelsea without Essien ran Man U mighty close last season. This season I think they start at least 10 points better relatively when you look at the respective transfer business.

Keeping my powder dry until nearer the big kick off. If Liverpool lose Alonso, they will slip back, if Man City sign Lescott they move into the Big 4 mix for my money, what is Arsene going to do?... so many imponderables.

Elsewhere are Villa going to sign anybody, will Everton have anybody still there and will Stoke and Sunderland actually be able to use their riches to make a break through signing or two? Will Woy up the ante at Fulham and who will be in and out when the Spuds wheel of fortune stops spinning?
