beerwins Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I encourage a bit of local tradition and its nice to see a bit of different cultures but I hope to god they mute the hell out of the horns on the tv, I read that they can be up to 3 foot in length very dangerous things in the hands of a football thug in a stadium

Tim Southampton Rover Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I forgot just how annoying those horns are. I'm dreading them when it's the actual world cup in front of 40,000+ fans every game. It's bad enough in a game watched by 10,000 or so.
Rovermatt Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I honestly thought when I read it, that Topman meant the endless and repetitive critique of the England team on this MB - coming mainly from Belfast You would appear to be mistaken. Have to say I thought the same thing too though.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Love this quote from the BBC website: Cripes! It sounds like a swarm of absolutely raving mad bees have been caught in the world's biggest jam jar and are thoroughly incensed about their incarceration.

Gumbi Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Just placed a £5 accumulator on group winners and runners up. I will win £296,105.47 if it comes off.
Majiball Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Nice one that'll pay Guti's wages for a month. Good luck.
Gumbi Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Cheers. There's a few I chosen which I'm a bit unsure about (mainly the groups where any team has a fairly good chance of going through) but I still think there is a good chance of them happening. I've also placed a free £5 bet on the England USA game so hopefully I'll make my money back from that anyway.
Backroom Tom Posted June 7, 2010 Backroom Posted June 7, 2010 I love the vuvuzelas makes the whole thing seem different. Would be annoying in person though.
tcj_jones Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I'm getting seriously excited about the World Cup now. As I mentioned in an earlier post, more because of the tournament as a spectacle than the opportunity of watching England or thinking we have a realistic shot of winning it. However, I'm even finding myself excited about our opening game. If we win that, we'll top our group, so it's a big one.
Amo Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I love the vuvuzelas makes the whole thing seem different. If by "different" you mean inane and mind-numbing, then yes.
67splitscreen Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Nifty World Cup Flash calendar. Great find, love it.
tonygreenbank Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 My World Cup has been ruined after only two games by the sound of those stupid horns!I cannot stand that noise for a whole month. It is like a huge swarm of bees round a hive.I had to turn the sound off in the opening game as it was ruining the spectacle. The chants and roars of a crowd are part of the excitement of a match but that racket drowns out any atmosphere. it is tuneless and banal.Am I alone in this? Nifty World Cup Flash calendar. Dont forget that the kick off times are an hour ahead of GMT!

I've turned the sound off too. Looking forward to seeing games in pubs now where there will be some atmosphere, I can't handle these bloody horns. Hopefully they'll realise what a horrible atmosphere it's creating and restrict their use, we can't have a tournament full of this.
Beta Ray Bill Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 If those horns make an appearance at Ewood, I will suggest that instead of the Crossbar challenge, we introduce a new half time game - how many of the said 'instruments' can be shoved up the backsides of the 'musicians' in 15 minutes.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 I love the vuvuzelas makes the whole thing seem different. Would be annoying in person though. Had to turn the volume down its so annoying...the noise of a million bees!
Ben-2000 Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Hopefully they'll realise what a horrible atmosphere it's creating and restrict their use, we can't have a tournament full of this. I disagree, If the S African's like it (which they obviously do!) then why should they be removed just because foreigners who watch on TV don't like it? It's S Africa, not England so why should they have to do what we do at Footy games? If we were told not to do something in our own country that we all liked doing... there would be uproar!
sleepyjack Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Get over the vuvuzelas. They're not that bad. Just wanted to post this Dodge advert that's on in the US today. The level of crass, oblivious patriotism that both nations can produce is hilarious. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ezk0e1VL80o Good lord.
Bobby G Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 France blew it. Their group is now wide open and wouldnt be surprised if they go out.
BuckyRover Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 I think the anti-vuvuzela sentiment is hilarious. "Ban them". Brilliant. It's nothing to do with us. Get used to it or prepare to be very annoyed for the next month.

tashor Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 If ever proof were needed that the tournament would be much better if held in this country after seeing so many empty seats........... The games would all be fully attended by our immigrant communities/neutral fans/easier for foreign fans to attend due to our better infrastructure...... The mosquito drones would be absent allowing those fans to bring their own "ethnic noise" to the games.......... What a shame.........
LeChuck Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 I think the anti-vuvuzela sentiment is hilarious. "Ban them". Brilliant. It's nothing to do with us. Get used to it or prepare to be very annoyed for the next month. I said restrict their use, not ban. It would be nice to hear the crowd for a change, one of the things I like about World Cups is that each match usually has a fairly unique atmosphere because of the different ways nations support their teams. With these each match is the same, just a constant buzzing noise. Obviously South Africans could do whatever they want in their games, but maybe they shouldn't be allowed to do it as much during other matches. It's not going to annoy me that much as I'll be watching all our games in a pub (or tonight - giant screen at a festival!) so there will be an atmosphere, but it is spoiling my enjoyment of these opening games.
