[Archived] 28% Of Rovers' Fans May Not Renew Season Tickets

Recommended Posts

Well, it was a survey of four thousand people, and when you consider election pollsters survey 1,000 people, it looks like a large sample to me and statistically sound. The survey is quoted as being well regarded.

So 'complete horse xxxxx', I think not.

Very unreliable. Was anyone on here asked?

Actually, its worse than that

"The research among more than 3,896 fans representing all 92 clubs in the Football League"

So its only 42.34 fans polled per club.

This is a fair point, and something I missed. 200 fans per club would have been a reasonable sample though.

The only reasonable sample is all ST holders. Other than that it's just speculation and poor sampling.

If you ask everyone it's not a sample. If you get a representative sample - at election pollsters do - you could probably work with a sample of 200 people from 20,000.

It's not just how many people you take, it's how well they model the population at large, and what you're trying to test with your poll.

There's a lot more to it than how many people you've asked.

And then there's how you ask the questions and what choice of answers you give people

A lot will depend on when the survey was taken. It wasn't so long ago that all looked rather bleak for the average Rovers fan. We had little to cheer about - and the football was at best average. A month or so later - the football is slowly improving, we have seen good performances against Liverpool, one of the best Rover's performances on national tv ever, the emergence of Kalanic as a genuine striker - coupled with Hoilett & Dunn signing new contracts. Not forgetting the long awaited emergence of Olsson.

The whole feel around Ewood is a lot more positive than it has been since Hughes left.

Be interesting to talk to the very limited sample of people now - and see if they feel any different.

People should just buy a ticket and get behind our team. Its never going to be that astonomical in cost. Else get off this board get away from the club all together, negativity is not welcome. Those who complain about the players and the effort or the style clearly don't understand football, you get what you are given, enjoy it for what it is

For some unfortunately a fiver is too much. I'm fortunate that I can afford to pay what it costs to watch rovers but there are some who at the moment can't. Suggesting that because you can't afford a ticket you shouldn't be here, is wrong as is suggesting that there should be no negativity. Depends on whether you are complaining as a matter of course or whether you have a specific complaint about something, for example poor performance in a particular match. The reaction from most to our defeat at Stoke for example was mainly negative because it was poor. The performance against Bolton however was much more positively received by all who do not have their own agenda, because it was much better

In response to the thread, I would rather have 28% less fans and be playing in the Premiership, than get relegated and lose them anyway. Until a better manager can be realistically suggested it's a little pointless continuously calling for the head of a man who is doing his job adequately.

I think that the point is made eloquently and succinctly

Too many agendas

Here's a thought if you really want to see if its representative, why not do a pole on here.

This would be a good idea as it would be more but not totally representative. I would suggest that the people who post on here are more likely to renew than the average, as they are probably more keen.

I'd agree that despite the brilliant pricing by the club, the value in terms of quality of football has been poor (albeit our home form has been good), so I would expect a decline in numbers next season.

The title should be this: At least 72% of Rovers fans will renew their season ticket.

As I said earlier in the thread, but some people like the thread perputrater just like to see their name in lights

A few years ago it was around £1000 for us to buy our season tickets, so "Its never going to be that astronomical" simply isn't true.

I doubt we'd be renewing if the price was still as high, we just couldn't justify spending that amount of money to watch the cr@p served up in the past 2 seasons.

As for negativity - many of us have been on this board for many years now, most of us have been enthusiastic about the club and team during this time. But you also need to put your head above the parapet when things don't seem to be as rosy. People like yourself and others that have recently discovered this site don't get what this board is all about, fortunately most of us do, its based on opinions, everyone has one, and like it or lump it, opinions are welcome on here so get used to it. :tu:

Not much point doing a poll until we know the prices as that will affect some

Not much point to 3 pages of debate about a poll if we dont have a poll. It of course has to be a like for like poll so pricing is irrelevent for the purpose of this poll, which has to be like the poll we are talking about.

If there are unsure season-ticket Holders on here, let's not stampede them into making the decision now...when in practise those supporters usually make the decision in June and July. Its the Premier League and we may be the only Prem League side in East lancs by then.

Amen to that, funny how people on here don't seem to hear the smae rumblings as we do?

I'll be renewing, but I know plenty that SAY THEY won't be.

Corrected for you Gav. ;)

Interesting table with a huge variation between the clubs. 28% looks bad but MU and Wolves need to worry more. As far as a comment on ZZZZZsam SUPER Sam Allardyce it's just a load of ######. The top of the table club are managed by the most successful club manager that this country has ever seen and who is known for producing teams that play exciting attacking football whilst the bottom 3 clubs who apparently have least to fear from their supporters abandoning in droves are the dead ball specialists at Stoke City, Benitez's dreadful Liverpool and the abysmal Bolton Wanderers!

Another thing that I cannot agree with is why 3 or 4 times as many Evertonians are apparently going to pack in as Liverpool fans. That alone just doesn't make sense.
