And we revert back to 4-4-1-1 after going behind. Experiment over??

We reverted to 4-4-2 after Samba injured against Sturm Graz, but continued with 3-5-2 in the next game. It's weird if we need to change formation when a player is taken off, seems that we have very limited amount of players suitable for 3-5-2.

Maybe it's just a case of trying a plan B just in case we need to play with 3 at the back & he probably wanted to see what Olsson was like as a wing back. He's got pace and energy to burn and maybe it would have suited him better than a left winger. No point carrying on if we don't have the players to play in it.

Nice play by Preston down the right, Givet blocks the centre for a corner. The home fans want handball. This results in the Rovers fans chanting handball at every opportunity thereafter, very amusing.

That moment against United at Ewood last season was brilliant especially the crechendo of noise when Pedersen picked the ball up for a throw

And this is why the formation will never work for us. Apart from a back-up I suppose. With our limited funds we'll never be able to bring in new players which will suit into this formation, especially at this stage of the pre-seaason.

It seems that Sam is content to go into the season with a very limited squad, hence why he is trying to get as much pre-season minutes into as much of the squad as possible. Having 2 games in such close proximity will enable us to get more players up to speed and more familiar with the first team.

PNE: Lonegan, Gray, St. Ledger, Morgan, Davidson, Jones, Mayor, Coutts, C. Brown, Hayes, Treacy.

Subs: W. Brown, Andreas, Dougan, McLaughlin, Miller, Douglas, Collins.

Blackburn: Robinson, Salgado, Olsson, Jones, Chimbonda, Givet, Andrews, Dunn, Hoillet, Nzonzi, Pederson.

Subs: Aley, Fielding, Branco, Marrow, Morris, Pearson, Potts, Judge.

Good grief.

A starting line up consisting of 5 defenders, three midfielders and two wingers.

Uncle Jack must be spinning in his grave.

At PNE. Started 3-5-2, Olsson off injured and gone back to 4-5-1. No matter which formation, we've been dire.

I know it's only a friendly but Andrews looks out of his depth, Hoilett is never going to be a Prem player, Chimbonda is still lazy, and although at least Pedersen is putting the effort in for a change, his delivery is as bad as ever.

We look all over the place on the pitch, and things seem to be the same off it at present.

Need to get the takeover sorted one way or another - the longer the uncertainty drags the more detrimental effect it's going to have on our season.

BTW anyone know why Roberts isn't playing?

Yeah, my missus could hear the groans of despair from Oakdale .... ;)

Oh, and Pedersen played well in about 3 games in the middle - the rest he was ploughing the depths of mediocrity.

Yeah, this game is crap. Playing Junior up front on his own is like putting your pants on outside your trousers, pointless and you look stupid... yep, pointless and we look utterly toothless and stupid. If you've got no strikers though...

As a few other posters have pointed out, pre season really does not give any indication on how the team or individual players are going to perform in the upcoming season. The game at League One side Huddersfield in 2007-08 pre season was the perfect example, as rovers were very poor that day and lost 2-1, but we still started the season with 1 defeat in our first 11 games and lost just 10 all season (our joint lowest number of defeats since our return to the top flight). It's incredibly frustrating when pre season results do not go as expected and performances are not to the required standard but it is not about results but a work-out for the players.
