[Archived] The Dawn Of A New Era

Recommended Posts

Our new owners are making all the right noises and let's hope that they also 'walk the walk'.

£M50+ investment is a massive commitment and they should be supported enthusiastically by all.

The comment about the name of the ground and the supporters wishes, in my opinion, is a 'no brainer'. An extra few £M per annum and challenging for Europe, Cups etc or 'Ewood Park' and the 'mediocrity' of mid table. I know where I am on this.

I am also sure that Sam will be given his chance. With maybe £10m per season to spend, I think we would see more quality additions, allowing us to play better football. For 2 years, Sam has had to 'make do and mend'; we all remember the calmitous days of Ince's 'open football'.

I am really confident that a bright new era beckons.

You really are a soulless bunch. Nothing quite says 'Sky-era soccer fans' like the way you've rolled over so quickly for these guys.

Ditch over a century of tradition for a PR gimmick? No problem, whatever you want Mr Venky sir. We'll ditch the blue and white and play in chicken costumes if you like.. if you think it will raise your profile in India sir..

You bang on so much about your proud tradition and then toss it away for some two bob Indian chicken farmer's marketing stunt. Two years from now you'll be watching Balti Rovers at the Venky's Stadium and telling yourselves it all makes sense in the modern world. Enjoy the ride, indeed.

It is nice to see that Burnley have kept their famous tradition of being losers, and yet again, below Rovers. I think it may be time to remind you of a particlar, and extremely relevant for today, banner that once proudly flew over turd moor, how did it read, oh yes, " staying down for ever, love BRFC"

Funny how history repeats it self.

Regardless of compensation or the reasons for getting rid of our current manager. Who are we going to replace him with?

And lets bear in mind 1 or 2 things here:

The new owner by her own account 'wants entertainment' and results.

The impression is the club will have more funds than previously - but it's not exactly going to be awash with cash.

I would suggest caution on every ones part before we go around changing any of the current staff.

Having said that with all the noise Sam has been making over the last few months - he may walk when his contracts up!

He may think the grass is greener.....

As for publicly backing sam...he's out of contract, why back him now when once he has money to spend in Jan he may make some poor signings...I think he has to choose his signings carefully in Jan or it could well cost him his job in the summer (when no compo would be needed).

Why not back him now. He is in the job now. Rovers are 11th, which is not bad considering the injuries Rovers currently have. Added to the lack of transfer activity last window. Try asking WHU how they feel towards their new owners and the team and situation they are in. Bet they would like to swap with Rovers if they could.

You know, the whole "it will always be Ewood Park to me" excuse does not sit very well. Why not take over Scotland then and call it England - shouldn't be a problem, as the Scots will still call it Scotland?

And what about future generations? Will they still call it Ewood? Or how about this "global presence" that the owners want us to have? Ewood Park and the history that comes with it will be erased.

I'm not saying no under any circumstances, but these excuses are a bit thin. Accept it for what it is, and don't try to put lipstick on a pig.

Mate go down the supermarket, buy a large bar of soap and shove it in your gob. Even in jest somethings just shouldn't be said.

At the end of the day they know that if they are going to sell the club further a field, then having entertainment value will be required. Sam's proven he's capable of getting us playing decent football and with a few quid to spend perhaps we can carry it on for a bit longer. If with a few shrewd signings he can at least match last seasons finish, he should be given the opportunity to try out his plans.

One thing that I am worried about is that as Sam is out of contract in the summer will he be allowed to sign who he wants regardless. Will anyone else have some input IE the advisor's? What happens if opinions differ.

With reference to the contracts being up in the summer, there's a lot of them. Replacing all of them and still maintaining some sort of team cohesion will not be easy.

Not bad coming from a bloke (?) who's team used to play in Blue and White halves! wink.gif

I wonder if Sam Dingle has ever asked 'why his team play in claret and blue'? - People who live in glass houses!

Cluck Cluck!

Think the bedsheet banner unveiled in the Darwen End last year, 'We lost, but we are still above you' says it all about Burnley FC and their fans ambition.

I think it is right that Sam is kept on his toes. How many times have people on here mentioned about their dislike of the style of football under Sam - even though it sometimes gets results.

The Venky's have to give Sam the first chance to show what he can do. He is in the job and it is his to try to keep. Anyway it costs money to sack a manager. If he is not what the fans or Venky's want, then his contract will be allowed to run down. Unless of course the club are in danger of relegation.

The comments about the Chelsea game was Rovers played well and some considered it entertaining (apart from the result)This shows that even the current squad can change style from match to match if needed. Add one or two more players and that would be further enhanced.

Sam is in the seat and in my view it would be wrong to sack him at this time. He has to be given and deserves to be given the first chance to take Rovers up the table.

very encouraging interview given to the LET. Lets hope that what she has said come to fruition.

On a different issue, but related in my view to being in a new era.

I think Rovers supporters have to play a role also in trying to win over the local ethnic population to bring them to Rovers. There are different cultures / religions in life that can cause some segregation and I suggest football can be a common ground.

During the Ince time, was there not a reporter who accused the club of having racist tendencies for getting rid of Ince. Well having Indian owners puts that allegation back down his throat. In a strange way having Indian owners may even be of benefical to Blackburn itself. It may even help to reduce any barriers between different people, which can only benefit the whole area.

Good Post totally agree. I think if Sam can start to introduce more exiting football like I believe we are started to see against Chelsea which I feel has continued since then and we finish in a similar postion to last season he will have the full backing on the majortiy of Rovers supporters.

I got the impression from reading the article that they were backing Allardyce for the time being but were saying to him that he has to prove that he is the right man for the job not just now but ongoing. That seems to me to be a very reasonable stance. If they come out now and say he's our manager regardless then results plummet, he makes poor signings ot whatever and they feel they have to get rid they have egg on their faces (sorry!) By giving him full backing for the time being whilst intimating they may need to review the situation at the end of the season, then they leave themselves some leeway if things go wrong.

That's unusual. Someone getting the wrong end of the stick

Bucky i am at work and havent had time to read the full article from the headline it says Rovers chairman so i am right to assume that the headline will match the article when you have never made a mistake in your life you can come on here and give me abuse but until then stick your sarcastic comments where the sun dont shine

I assume writing out that MASSIVE paragraph took longer than it would have taken to read the article properly in the first place.

So skim reading has actually taken up more of your time.

Presumably you need the extra time to work on your punctuation. Oh, and Bucky Rover's comment hardly counts as abuse.

Thanks. It wasn't particularly aimed at pancini, I was just making reference to the amount of people who have got the wrong end of the stick throughout the entire takeover process.

I liked her interview in the LET it was very positive. She certainly talked about making funds available. Any funds is better than what we have been gettting for the last few years..

Those P&L accounts pose a question to me that you may be able to answer Phillip. Do you know why the television contribution reduced by nearly £6mil between 2008 and 2009. It would have made the operating 'profit' close to a break even if it had continued at the 2008 level.

It also hits you that a surplus of aprox £30mil was made on player trading during the period covered by those numbers. What a difference that would have made if it could have been spent on new players. However I do realise that depreciation may have had an effect on these figures depending upon how it was treated in the accounts.

TV money includes place prize money. Dropping from 7th to 15th accounted for around £5m and reduced TV coverage the rest.

Very pleased with Mrs D so far.

hope the above is correct.....talking of facebook groups what do people expect ????? - there are a few springing up at the moment in protest at the sale and anti renaming .

as I have stated yesterday I know people who have said if the stadium is named Venkys they will never step foot in it again ! if its named after a sponsor then thats different but Venkys would be a marketing thing in India and company profile raiser and nothing to do with the proud tradition of Blackburn Rovers...someone on another thread that they support the club well so does everyone else but what we dont support is multi national corporations ( of which venkys arent yet...lol ) !

people pay there money season tickets , etc and have the right to protest , freedom of speech , etc ,etc

I concur Athlete. Financial and emotional supporters of a professional sporting club are entitled to ridicule a club, it's members and/or officers if they're unhappy with the results on the playing surface or the actions of the club off the playing surface.
