You didn't enter Thor the Hammer-Striking Scandanavian That Kinda Looks Like a Tank?

Imagine that... Thor vs. Bertie the Bee. That I would like to see (but only in a cup match).

I like to keep him in reserve for ranged attacks.

I am loaning him to West Ham for the season.

Good old Ken, true to form. Hasn't sorted out the away coach providers for next season yet despite having had a whole two weeks ;)

Be fair mum, last season away travel season ticket holders didn't get the renewal invite until TWO days before the first away game! ;)

On the first day of the season, there'll be an away match, the coach will be waiting for the supporters then somebody will suddenly realise that no one has told them ...

Wonder if this year's Executive Coach will have a radio that works? I live in hope!

Mind you, the drivers have been brilliant, but I do sometimes long for the days when we had a matching set of coaches!

I was hoping the change of ownership would mean keeping our best players and growing as a club and challenge for the top 6-8.

That's the rub, right there. Plus the new owners were giving this impression post-takeover. They must have seriously underestimated what they were getting into.

Feels like we are the proverbial corpse with the vultures circling ever downward, ever nearer!

And just think, this is after SURVIVING - imagine how bad it would have been if we HAD been relegated...!

Oh my word. Reality check needed for a lot of folk here.

We could be a lower-league club hurtling out of existence, struggling just to make ends meet. But no, we're an established club guaranteed another season of top-flight football, with the bonus of more transfer funds than we've had in recent years.

Losing Jones would be a blow, but it's hardly unprecedented in today's current climate. I'm sure Venky's, however, will get both barrels from the fans should it happen, despite the power being firmly in the player's hands.

Until someone comes in and starts chucking stupid money at Rovers, keep your expectations firmly on the ground.

That would be fine and totally acceptable, if it wasnt for the comments that have poured out form the owners pre and post takeover. Plus, the manager who talks about exciting times ahead with the budget he has at his disposal, how misleading are they.

I know who i'd rather be watching next season between young Phil Jones or some other footballing mercenary. If venky's cant afford English football then they are better off getting out now rather than waiting until later.

If we were still being run by The Trust, I'd agree with you but Phil Jones has now become more than just the next small town player to have his head turned by the richer clubs. Through no fault of his own he is a symbol of what our new owners are all about. They themselves have raised expectation levels and the fending off of offers for Jones, or his sale and valuation, will tell us a lot about our their true plans for the club.

Venkys stock is extremely low with supporters because they have consistently said one thing and done another - to the detriment of the club. They need to earn back the supporters trust - turning down a large bid from a top 4 side would go a long way towards this.

Get a grip you may say but if football supporters can't get passionate about the prospect of one of their best local talents going then we may as well just shut down the forums and turn it into a blog for one or two people to offer their opinions with retort.

Let's not blow this out of proportion. When all's said and done, business is business Phil Jones is a young star playing for a small town club. I'm sorry, but Venky's aren't going to dismantle the footballing hierarchy, no matter what their good intentions. We make a living from poaching young players from clubs below us, and the 'Top Four' et al do likewise to us. That's just how things work, like it or lump it.

There's being passionate and there's being a drama queen. Some people can't differentiate between the two.

I had hoped that when we were taken over we would have moved up the food chain but it seems we haven't. The problem is Venkys themselves - and through their mouthpiece- have also given this impression. I've yet to see Venky's £5m in action but right now it doesn't appear any different than under The Trust. A Brighter Future? No, it's just the same shade of grey.

One man's passion is another man's queen. It's all about opinions, Toppers.

It might not seem like much but it's a step-up from The Trust, that's for sure. Benjani on a free was our worst summer EVAR.

Even if they invested £20m this season, do you think it would be enough to keep Jones? Everton's ambitions didn't seem to do a lot to keep Rooney from Old Trafford. Does that mean that Moyes and his bosses were gutless, too?

I don't approve of their bombastic soundbites, when they clearly don't have the hard-cash or vision to meet them, but I would chalk that down to a lack of culture more than anything else.

I'd also like to think if they *did* have a pot put aside, it would be better spent on improving the squad than trying to make some gimmick signing.

If they invested £20m this Summer, yes, I think it would make a difference. Samba may well stay another season, which may influence other players - Jones included. If we got rid of some of the deadwood and added a squad player or two - or even loan signing, then we could well strengthen the side.

One of the problems is that Kean seems to think that some of the deadwood is actually first team material - and wants to keep Diouf MkII, Roque and given a new deal to Benjani!

I agree with everything else in your post. If we draw a line under last season and look at it as a transition, Venkys still have it all to prove next season.

This transfer window could well be like the first 25 minutes of a match against a top 4 club. Weather the storm, defend stoutly, don't concede and make more progress in the second half. Let's just not gift the opposition anything early doors.

The 5 million venkys are putting in is an improvement. Its just a shame its come at a cost that the man who could have used it best to move the club forwards. Venkys made a huge mistake in letting williams go. Their investment could have made such a difference if he had remained in charge.

ok,drama queen mode ..off

If they had taken over and said right we are not spending wads (i know the comment of 5m a window.) then me personally would have said great lets get on with it and use the cards dealt. However since they took over they(mainly barry white venky) they have said....

1.marquee signing ie.ronny,becks,riquelme etc.

2.we ARE NOT a selling club and WILL keep the best young players.(i know player power but they are under contract)

3.We WILL finish top 8 NEXT season and we WILL win a cup this season and we WILL be challenging for the title again (all on granada reports!)

4. appointing the brew boy enough said.

if they are genuine and NOT liars then this WILL take more than 5 million pounds to do.Not drama queening or fantasying just going off what THEY HAVE SAID IN THE MEDIA.

At the moment we do not know how Paul Hunt is going to function. He maybe brilliant and good for the club. Gutted JW and TF left the club. But cannotmake judgements a on a bloke who hasn't even started yet. He could be better or worse the JW, we do not know yet.

But if he has any sence at all he will put up a not for sale sign on players such as Phil Jones, Hoilett etc etc. Use the 5 mill (if that is what it is) to put towards a decent striker. Sell Andrews, Grella, Roberts and kalinic to increase the transfer budget.

I do not know enough about Rovers reserve players, to know if there are any other good ones to bring on to the first team.

The biggest problem Rovers have is this, we have no sponsor or shirt sponsor, without which, season tickets cannot be processed, shirt sales and commercial sales will stagnate as they cant be a replica until the sponsor is sorted, cash flow will be seriously hampered and we are going into a transfer window without an experienced negotiator on behalf of the club!

We really are a club in disarray, it should have been planned for but it appears as though the owners dont seem to do things like planning or are they not listening to the people at the club. I do recall Venkys stating they had some top sponsorship lined up, wonder where they are?

Everything hinges largely this summer on being able to keep hold of our best players.

And Hughesy's favourite solution "Get rid of deadwood!" would help as well.

Robinson, P. Jones, Samba, Hoillet Olsson.

Plus maybe J. Jones, Rochina and Formica breaking through and if there is money available for a couple of new strikers there's a lot of reasons to be optimistic there.

We have varying degrees of "deadwood" but Grella, Andrews, Dunn, Roberts, Linganzi, Goulon, MGP, Emerton, Kalinic should all be moved on imo if anyone will take them.
