As an American...

We had to deal with FIFA through Jack Walker, so of course we always saw the system as corrput. Its hard not to when you get even a apeak at what he was up to. Warner could teach Berlusconi a few things about using the media outlets you own to spin things in support of your other positions.

In terms of 'fixing' FIFA, the problem is that there's so much money int eh game now, that anyone involved is going to have their hand out at some point. Clearly the FA in England and the USSF here in the USA are full of people that'd gladly slag off someone else for their shortcomings while still follow the money trail to personaly wealth. But at this point, I guess less corruption is better than massive corruption.

The one thing that England (and the ?USA but to a lesser extent for this specific sport) have is a rabid media who get their kicks form crushing people when they act sactimonius or hypocritical (unless they are politicians who haven't twittered pictures of their junk to random women, for some reason). So that does act as a measure of control in our respective lands, I guess.

Just think how bad it would have been if you had Jack Warner... ;)

Bumped this up rather than start a new thread.

Probably just a bit of tubthumping and electioneering but this is something which I have advocated on here for some time... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25811977

Good idea too.

Might add complications to the refs job BUT personally I'd prefer a seperate (electric Blue?) card requiring a team to make a compulsory substitution for certain offences that require a sending off but are maybe unintentional. The sending off of players cheats the fans who have paid to see a proper contest, so goalkeepers handling (accidentally) outside the box, retaliation offences, some fouls by the 'last man' deemed when the player was making a genuine attempt at a tackle etc, players who have 'lost' their heads and are in danger of being sent off. Oh and also blatant cheats e.g. timewasters, divers etc.

Interesting idea Gordon. The likes of Ashley Young would then get half a game at the most. What if a team had made their 3 substitutions already?

Back to FIFA a little bit of my heart died when it was hinted Bladder might not step down. Honestly, all them need to be forced to leave their jobs at gunpoint, but Sepp is the biggest most corrupt individual of them all. And it would be awful if Platini took over as well.

Minor issue really Norbert.

a. there are 5 subs on the bench so allowing a 4th sub only on the refs orders is not too much of a rule change from that.

b. Alternatively it'd make managers hang on to that 3rd sub a little longer.

Novel idea but i am afraid the more cynical will use it to their advantage. I have never neen a fan of the penalty AND a sending off rule. Just kills the game for me. Now for denying a scoring opportunity outside the box i think a sin bin would work. Perhaps for in the box also. A penalty and a 10 min sit down. It wont stop players doing it but its a bit fairer for the fans

I do like Gordon's idea. I've thought that a set number of rolling substitutions like rugby league would lead to an interesting game, as managers will constantly be testing their tactical abilities in such a game. This, along with Gordon's Blue Card could make the 90 minutes a constantly evolving and changeable game. And a sin bin should be introduced for cases of ill discipline and constant bitching at the ref.

A team is leading 1-0 with ten minutes to go but are getting hammered by the opposition.

Manager indicates to striker to get himself sent off and then sends on a centre back as a replacement.

If a referee suspects the above is the motivation behind the striker's foul how does the referee react?

Rules are rules and if referees start making such judgements then we have even bigger issues to discuss.

Won't work I'm afraid

Rules change frequently. There used to be only one sub and before that none, the offside rule has undergone a massive change, Goalkeepers rules are forever changing, two footed tackles, use of elbows etc etc.
