On an unrelated topic I am sickened that a poster has named himself "Big Jock Knew" and would ask mods to investigate where this phrase comes from and to, if not ban the cro-magnon who has chosen to so christen himself, ask for a less offensive moniker.

I shudder to think what ex-Rovers with Celtic connections, such as King Kenny, would think of a Rovers supporter who considers it amusing to choose such a soubriquet, or indeed why any other right-thinking human being should share a messageboard with the person

Surely meadows you can only say that if you are certain Big Jock didn't know? Now I don't really know enough about this case to comment with certainty but sweeping stuff like this and the Irish priests scandal under the carpet by persons high up in Catholic hierarchy is surely never to be defended or covered by a cloak of silence?

Wow, not knowing enough to comment with certainty! Now there's an entirely novel conceptfor Forum regulars.

Confused though by the premise that if something might have happened but we're not right sure,it's open season for making reference to and speaking ill of someone dead too long to defend himself. Curious

What has the "Catholic Hierarchy" got to do with Jock Stein and a junior coach who was rightly convicted of a terrible crime?

Booth - what exactly is a question for the House? I'd really like to know, genuinely!

He wasn't even a junior coach. He ran the Celtic boys team, which was in fact only loosely connected to the actual Celtic Football Club. Incidentally Stevie Kean was once one of his players. My brother in law was directly involved in that team and even he didn't know, so I doubt whether 'Big Jock' did in fact have any knowledge whatsoever. That won't stop the usual Glasgow/Irish/Sectarian conspiracies from casting judgements though. Extremely poor choice of username which would probably constitute a criminal offence if uttered within earshot of a Scottish police officer.

This is a helluva quantum leap from the poster's original point, to be fair. Not that it matters but Big Jock wasn't even a Catholic....

I was watching tv last night and the EDL was on.

Which reminded me a lot of the protesters of Ewood.

Ie. There's a few clued up "leaders" who know their stats/figures etc.

But then there's the "followers" who just give it a "Yeah!!" and agree with everything which is said without thinking about it or contributing much to the debate.

They also generally appear to look the same as well. Angry, shaven headed, stone island wearing; chavy ########.

That's the main reason I personally feel embarrassed about the whole protest situation.

Feel free to -1 me

Don't you think it might be better to concentrate on the position we find ourselves in, ie someone in charge of the team with the worse record in history and the likely relegation that is on the cards

Think we've got our first attempt to break the -1 record set yesterday.

Good luck :tu:

That is just the nature of human society apart from the dress sense which is far more cosmopolitan than you are giving the protesters credit for.

Goes for classrooms, Women's Institute meetings, Volunteer rescue teams, EDL and Rovers protest groups etc.etc.

As you think banners in a football ground are 'sad' generally, no surprise with that sweeping statement.

We are in a society now were we are trying to get away from this "Judging a book by its cover" . People having short hair and wearing branded clothes has got nothing to do with them protesting and I take personal offence that you should insult people who have been protesting because of how they dress and their personal appearance.

We are going to football matches not down a catwalk.

The protests have always been peaceful, and I will move this one step further to add, its not the protestors who have been issuing threats of violence to both the protestors and their children.

This is whats so wrong with modern society, people being branded as thugs because of how they chose to dress.

Many of the people involved in these peaceful protests have high profile jobs, and qualifications which are up there with the best of them. I myself have short hair and a stripe in my hair but it didnt stop me leaving school with 9 a-c's, pick up my city and guilds in Welding Fabrication and then go onto get a business Management Degree.

Stero-typing is one thing i seriously detest

You should look in the mirror sunshine, then feel embarrassed. I think people with attitudes like what you have just posted, should be put up against a wall and shot.

Look like an idiot ;)...

Pretty silly post. People I've seen protesting look like a good cross section of our support, the sane as those who are non protestors..

Big Jock Knew

I didn't know - had to Google it...

pretty sick.. :o new 'USERNAME' needed.

time to end the organised protests, IMO. obvious reasons.

spontanous protests will have a better effect.

question for glen mullen- some people are casting aspersions saying youre not a season ticket holder ?

is this true or unfounded ?

As Ste-B has correctly stated this year I have chose to get my tickets weekly due to financial issue's, its a pain but it has not stopped me getting to the games this season. Why this is relevant? I do not know, but suppose people wish to throw mud.

No difference though tbh, I have still sat in same seat all season row 5 seat 140, it just means I don't get the discount I would of had, if i had purchased a season ticket

That will always happen though in a debate people will try and weaken the position of the opponent, as you know similar has been done to Roversmum with questioning her background.

Not by your own doing but you have been painted as some sort of superfan and it may have lead to questions as to if one was so commited to an extent they would be willing to sell your car to travel to India then why would you not hold a season ticket etc etc.

I suppose it just goes with the territory of being high profile at present, a few people questioned why I should go to Pune as I don't attend many away games, people will pick where they see holes.

Ask the person who originally brought up that he was speaking to Jack Straw as he will be able to tell you exactly. But if you don't know why are you so against it?

Protests will always bring undesirables, but what would you rather have Arran? An organized protest with some kind of structure or just a rabble that arises out of anger and resentment that could turn nasty?

It's kind of sad that we're the laughing stock of the league because of all kinds of things Venky/Kean related, then there's people like you who think a group of people passionate about their club enough to fight for it, peacefully, are an embarrassment and should be compared to the EDL. Shame on you.

Am I being thick ? Big jock knew what?

Comes from a chant at Old Firm games, pretty sick.

From Urban Dictionary:

In the early 1970s, young boys were abused by a youth coach at the club called James Torbett. Jock Stein aka Big Jock is reputed to have known about this and not reported the matter to the authorities, and also been part of a cover up within Celtic Football Club.

Ive got a shaved head mate, I am in a well respected job (very well paid too) I take my 10 year old son to every home match and he has been at every protest with me. I was there last sat in my £780 Wings & Horn green parka (no stone island) So how dare you call people (and catagorise shaven headded people) into the chavy catagory? You have never met me or probably all of the protesters but you can come out and call us that. Shame on you mate!!!!!! shame on you!! :wstu:

Could we please give it a rest re. the 'chav' nature of the protesters? My hair is down my back, I have never owned any items of Stone Island clothing, nor have I been tango'd or developed any stereotypical physical traits of a 'chav' whilst I've been protesting. Last time I was actually stood between two sexagenarians and far from being bile ridden antagonisers, we were having very calm debate about the sorry situation.

Since when is having a ST for Rovers some kind of badge of honour? At those prices you arent exactly making a statement.

Glen will probably be paying around £400 for his tickets this season instead of my £225!

Join the 100 Club and REALLY financially contribute if you want.

True that!

I think the 'accusation' was probably more along the lines of, if he hasn't a ST then maybe he isn't attending.

Out of interest I would love to know at what point it would have cost you the equivalent of the ST price, can't be too far off now.

Suppose we can expect a huge rise in ST prices next season at this rate.

Back on topic proper, Glen / Simon has anything further been dicussed? ie next steps / meetings with club / fans meetings etc etc
