[Archived] Rovers v. Newcastle Preview - February 1, 2012

The goal we gave away was ludicrously bad. Givet very unlucky not to equalise straight after. We had a few deflected shots go out of play; their defelected shot went in. The penalty was awful - memories of losing to Forest 2-1 at home last time we went down, but at half time I was still very hopeful as were were giving them the runaround. However, we were totally undone by Pardew's tactical switch and Kean's non-response to it.

Nailed on to go down imo.

kean's tactical response was to take off petrovic, put formica on the right and ped in the middle. completely baffling.

such a frustrating game.

modeste's only weakness is his finishing. if that can be improved, we could have one hell of a prospect.

he seems to have everything else!

havent seen any tv coverage or replays, but newcs 1st goal - though petrovic's pass was poor - where was lowe running off too ?

im losing patience with nzonzi. petrovic was getting dogs abuse at times for giving the ball away - but the passes he was served up by nzonzi were shocking. one patricular- in the 2nd half was a 2 yard pass at knee height!

i used to rate the bloke, but he cant pass water, poor tackler and hardly bothers to pressurise. one season wonder IMO.

im still p*ssed off. even today. i cant take any comfort in how well we played.

Oh, and Pedersen's dead ball delivery was terrific but some poor stuff in open play.

Did you see 6 out of the 7 corners that the goalie got to ?? i think we had 14 corners in total. I lost count after 6 were claimed by kruhl. Its nearly half for gods sake - That is not good!!

Problem is nobody pressured the keeper

Dann stood there and didn't jump for a few and made it so easy for him, stark contrast to Hanley v De Gea

Felt 2-0 flattered Newcastle, Rovers played well without getting any real clear chances, 2nd goal came when we was pushing for equaliser. However bad window was evident,

Must say tonight I did not enjoy the game, for these reasons,

I thought I would watch the second half with Simon, So sat where simon usally sits, As I approached my seat I got loads of abuse from birdie who was using language I will not repeat. He continued his abuse for a good five minutes with his wife joining in. I chose not to bite, because I go to rovers to watch the team win and support the players. I said to Simon, "How do you manage to sit here each week with this abuse?" Especially as he goes with his young son.

It the died off and we watched the match, At full time Birdie piped up again, with another round of abuse which included him trying to throw punches. I said to him "Birdie we come to football to watch football, there is little point falling out over a difference of opinion, he continued as did his wife, at this point i said to him " Its ok shouting your mouth off, but everyone sold their houses on Nuttall street when the new stadium was built bar you, who held Jack to ransom and took 2 and half times what your house was worth (Common Knowledge) When you are mouthing off, just remember you are here on Jacks cash. He continued to be aggressive and I never left where I was sat, at this point Glenn P came over and tried to defuse the situation. I left my seat and headed to the concourse where Birdie continued to try and throw punches and continued with his abuse, this continued outside the ground, until and number of supporters dragged him away and told him he was a discrace.

I'd want 2 and a half times what my house was worth as well if someone wanted to flatten it. It's hardly holding Jack to ransom isn't it. From what a gather you are starting to annoy a lot of fans with your fan leader act.

This behavour was disturbing. Many people have critisised protest, but it was once again a non protester who was being aggressive and trying ton cause issues. Throughout these protest despite the grief, I have had to keep my calm and take abuse on the chin, and even tonight I have took it on the chin, but that sort of supporter is a discrace, not only did he hold Jack to ransom, but he has the nerve to slag the everyday supporter off, for caring.

Here here!! I thought it was just me and my dad that thought that. Fair enough we were unlucky at points but that means jack all!

I thought tonight we were more direct than under sam! it was route one and direct beyond belief!

First half we played it on the deck after 60 mins the ball started flying around the air and we looked tired, also agree with Zac about Nzonzi, I dont rate him at all, one good pass for Formica's goal against Fulham and suddenly he is a good player, Jermaine Jones was a good player Nzonzi isnt, the guy rarely looks to lay a forward pass on and his passes sideways are often clumsy, as for his tracking back....lets just say have a look back at the amount of goals scored against us and see how many came from midfield runners slotting the ball home after an easy cross pass. Unfortuately we have been lacking in this department for way too long and I suspect for a lot longer still.

I dont want to lay blame at any of the players feet for the result, lack of investment cost us, would Andy Johnson have missed the chances Modeste did? I dont think so....Therefore it is quite clear where the blame lies I just want Kean to come out and say this instead of sticking up for the owners, He hasnt been backed now in two transfer periods and it shows.

Ronaldiniho-Formica

Beckham-J.Jones on loan

Ibesevic or cisse- Yakubu

J.Jones or Witsel- Petrovic

Andy Johnson- Modeste

Sutter-Orr

None of the guys we ended up with were as good as names mentioned and i'm sure there were plenty more but my memory fails me.

So why after the first time does MGP not rollock him and tell him its making him look stupid ?? They just dont care!! Absoloute mercenaries!!

Do they not practise anything in training!!

Does pedersen know roughly which area the ball is going to land or is it pot luck! If he is aiming under the cross bar like he does quite often why on earth did he not get somebody who does jump or challenges to stand there ??

aaaarrrrrrrggggggghhhhhh!! I might be expecting too much but if i was paid upwards of 30k a week i would hope i know where its going to land and the plan of action on set pieces!!

Not only did he collect a load of extra cash from the Ewood re-development but is missus keeps raking in the prize money from that gurning competition in Egremont.

It just seemed ever so direct! maybe not hoofball but it appeared that modeste had more tussles in 1 game for the ball than roberts would do in 3. The ball appeared to be pinging forward and backwards all game.

I will blame BRFC! I will blame kean. I will blame the players. In the end the buck stops with venky's as they organised the whole thing!

You wouldn't blame dunn yet he misses a penalty ? That had a lot to do with the result!

There are portions of blame to be shared out amongst plenty sure but it falls down to bad choices by the owners and a lack of financial backing why we are in the bottom three, in the match itself there are always cluprits and people to blame for the loss but that wont affect the next match what the owners have done will.

I'd want 2 and a half times what my house was worth if someone wanted to flatten it wouldn't you? It's comments like this that are turning quite a few people against you.in my opinion. If you had done a quarter of the miles watching rovers that birdie has then you might get more respect.

It also helps if his group dont tell fans to "F*** off four eyes" for suggesting that the protests should stop. Does them no favours.

Ahh I didn't know that but had a feeling there was more too the story. Sounds similar to the 'protestors' in the darwen end last night protesting all the way through the 2nd half, heard a few In the toilet proclaiming the majority don't give a f**k and aren't proper fans for not taking part.

To be clear, that was a completely seperate incident.

I think Glen is a pretty genuine guy IMO, but he's not going to get anywhere if people around him are abusive towards those who have a different opinion.

Thanks for clearing that up, although will have contributed to birdies reaction I would guess. I would add birdie is old enough too know better and if Glen feels the need he should report to the police, whilst I disagree with some of Glen's ideas his personal safety should never come into question.

Having thought about things today, in hindsight I should not have mentioned Birdies home, I did on a number if occassions try to shake his hand and deal with this issue properly, but he did not want to.

Its very hard when you are getting abused from your seat when you have a child sat at the side of you, people trying to exit the stadium and you are pretty powerless to what you can do, especially when they are clambering over the seats to try and attack you.

I'm only human, and can only take so much, so it was the first thing that popped into my head as a defence to his berating of me calling my supporter status into question.

Not sure if Birdie will come tonight and again if he does I will be quite happy to shake his hand as I do not want to fall out with anybody as its just daft.

I think lots of people are getting restless including me, and emotion leads to frustration and frustration leads to out of character occurances. I hope this is now swept away as the football is the most important thing

I did not come away disappointed with Rovers effort yesterday, Newcastle bagged a goal from a mistake, which then had a massive deflection. We continued to take the game to newcastle, and had the penalty gone in we may have gone on to win the game.

Newcastles 2nd comes when we are chasing an equaliser, if we play like that for the rest of the season, I would be hopeful that we would be on the better end of the result.

We are still in there fighting and we have to believe we can get something at Arsenal as we do have a good record in recent games against the so called better teams.

Glen nor Simon can control all of the protesters though no doubt some of them are young and maybe too full of enthusiasm and a naivety which can go with it.

Seem to see this quite often on this site.

Usually protestors saying that anyone who cannot see, or questions, the need for protests cannot be real Rovers fans.

Even when they are just asking if the in game protests are helping the club on the pitch.....

Might lead to some people patience snapping. As you say, your first thought when your supporter status was questioned was aggression.

Frustrated beyond belief after that.

Tonight showed clearly the difference between having a manager who knows what he's doing and whatever job Kean thinks he is doing.

Looking at those team sheets before tonight we matched up better in almost every position to Newcastle.

The effort the players put in was all that can be expected but it all boils down in my opinion to the manager. With almost any other manager in the league I feel we wouldn't be in the position we find ourselves in right now.

It isn't Kean's fault he is clueless tactically but Pardew showed tonight how to set up a team to be successful in the Premier League. Albeit they were lucky to grab their first goal but they then wasted time, sat back, frustrated us, weren't afraid to take Ben Arfa off and put Ryan Taylor in on the right to stop Olsson rampaging forward and ground out a result.

These are the sort of games against a vastly weakened Newcastle team that you have to be winning at home to stay up and I'm afraid that with Kean in charge things aren't going to turn around any time soon. Who cares whether we passed the ball around nicely or kept possession better it all comes down to positive results, which at the moment seem to be few and far between

Ultimately this blame has to lie with the Venkys and we must now let them know in no uncertain terms they aren't wanted at this club. All they had to do when they came in to guarantee Premier League status for the foreseeable future was DO NOTHING. Just keep the vastly experienced Allardyce in charge as well as maintain the excellent club infrastructure such as John Williams, Tom Finn etc. However, it seems they have gone out of their way to screw us over and we are now paying the price.

Sorry for the rant but I felt the need to get this off my chest exclamation.gif

Perfect summation Jones. You put ALL our troubles in a nutshell there. Nothing more needs to be said.

Reading this and other forums you can say the same about comments directed towards those who protest. There should be no surprise that it's getting heated in the ground when you have a manager and owners who have fractured the fanbase.

It works both ways. Have a look at Twitter now and again you get some very erm... Offensive people having a swear/threaten violence/go at the protesters. I've not once seen a protester threaten violence against a none-protester.

I would want the maximum price for my home if somebody wanted to buy it for whatever purpose. Maybe bricks and mortar to others. But at the end of the day, it is your home you are selling.
