Would be a great signing. One of the best performances by an away player at Ewood last season. Has a bit of a reputation as a super sub at QPR but would surely shine in the Championship. He would improve us and that is all you can ask from any signing but I do agree with the fact we do have more pressing concerns in other areas of the squad. With N'zonzi off we are very light in centre mid.

3.5m would almost guarentee he's a starter

Murphy has clearly signed to play

As much as it grates pedersen is probably the 2nd highest earner so will play

Best it seems is the new starting striker

Dunn is venkys poster boy so out ranks Lowe

Cox possibly as well

Mackie........Dunn..........Murphy...........Pedersen

.......................Best.........Cox...............................

So the above is the midfield and attack

only 5 subs in chumpionship though and we have a hell of a lot of attacking crap we won't shift.............he'd be an improvement which is'nt saying a lot but for the love of god sort the defence out how hard can it be to improve on Dann/Hanley/Orr/???whoever we have at leftback when martin goes?? not hard and not expensive

That subs rule has change back to 7 subs for this season.

Andy Cryer is reporting that unofficial enquiries have been made about Mackie and we are prepared to offer him a package that would double what he is on now.

Alan Nixon seems fairly confident about this one as well.

I agree with comments about we are paying over the odds for players but we are a championship club so I guess we have to. I hope we can get this lad in he is a top pro who will give everything.

What about Gomes? He must be on a reasonable whack as well. Hasn't the Shebster also outlined that he will play as a second striker?

It´s Nicko´s story. Maybe he thinks it´s £50M budget again. Mackie is definetely a very good player this level.

Taking it with a pinch of salt then :tu:

still don't know why people are getting excited about this guy, average at best, have a look on wikipedia and you will see his goalscoring record for a striker is awful. Still don't know what he can offer that we dont already have, why waste money on a non-goalscoring striker when there is a need for more defensive re-enforcement and to suggest a swap deal for hoillet is an insult, this guy is nowhere near hoillet's class. What right does kean have of wasting money from a player who sam worked hard to bring through and then get a visa on such a medicore run-of-the-mill forward? (provided that is that hoillet will join qpr)

Maybe we're reading the thread differently, but I haven't noticed anyone having spasms of excitement about Jamie Mackie. Anyway, isn't he more of a right midfielder than a striker?

Vukcevic is our only natural right winger and I've forgotten what he looks like.......so unless you want Goodwillie and Henley there again, Mackie would be a good signing.

Like others have pointed out, he plays more on the wing which is why his goalscoring record isn't as good and he seems like a Yossi Benayoun/Maxi Rodriguez type player in that he doesn't play consistently yet seems to impress when he does.
