Listening to feedback is good

Gauging popular public opinion is better

Taking this into account when making a decision is better again.

Being bullied, dictated to or unduly influenced by any one bit of feedback or information is stupid .... But there is nothing I've seen, (other than a Facebook post by Glen) to indicate this has happened. Only that they reached the same decision the fans did (Billy Mak isn't the right man).

None of us know the full story behind the decisions to hire and fire, even info from the half dozen people who claim they directly input on the decision (the family, Shebby, shaw etc) has proven to be flawed in the past, so nothing short of a direct tap into each of their minds would give any one person the full picture.

The club should be talking to the fans, they should be listening to the groups, to say otherwise it nuts (both from the fans perspective and the clubs) they should even be influenced by them to some extent, but not to the extent where the other information they have is ignored.

Didn't certain 'fan opinion' lead John Williams to appoint Ince and not Allardyce in the summer of 2008? Its certainly a tricky balance.

If a group say we need experience it is debatable what that is and how it is acquired. E.g. Sherwood's role at Tottenham of co-ordinating the first team and youth team and helping give team talks in the dressing room could be ideal training for management .

Shearer's years as England Captain and 8 games at Newcastle at premier League level could be seen as having more experience of management at the top two divisions than a non-league manager. Billy McKinlay has worked as a coach for a Premier league side for 7 years and has taken over the team for 2 games with a win at Anfield. Is that experience of setting up a team tactically more valuable than planning a game against Kirkham and Wesham? Garry Flitcroft may well have learnt man management skills and training regimes but the standard is not high enough to be applicable.

If Garry Flitcroft had been appointed manager then the Action group wouldn't have highlighted lack of League football or even Conference football experience whereas a different fan group might have so immediately groups may offer conflicting or diametric views if consulted.

Despite this,it was important what was said publically about Billy McKinlay as his links to Steve Kean and his departure for the club meant it was an insensitive move to make by Shebby. As BRAG's 8000 members will statistically reflect rovers opinion generally, Glen and the group were right to say that it was a move that would send things into meltdown.

Supporters groups have every right to say what they perceive to be the member's views but too much weight should not be placed on one group in particular. As Glen said last night, he believed that Shebby wouldn't look to a general BRFCS messageboard opinion for supporter opinion(correctly) but to the action group. This is not the fault of the Action group or any other group but of the person's(Shebby) judgement in how they gauge what fan opinion is and their subsequent interpretation of it. I don't trust Shebby's judgement to view the plurality of supporter opinion correctly and therefore it would be best if he talked to Derek Shaw and footballing people that are not Gerry Armstrong rather than be informed by what he perceives fans to be thinking.
