[Archived] Indian Economic Times Article on Venky's

Recommended Posts

Some bad PR in India for Venky's. This article has gone out today in the print edition of the Indian Economic Times, it is the most respected business newspaper in India so Venky's won't like the bad press.

"they have become a byword for mismanagement, a shortcut for the surreal, an object lesson in how not to run a football club. Their reign has been an unmitigated disaster"

If this didn't make them choke on their cornflakes, nothing will.

Slap it into you Venkys!

Good work.

You can't wrap chips with a web page and it also sticks around a lot longer than the physical newspaper.

But you're right with one thing. Kean all will be done because they simply have the shame of a porn star.

Much like everything else attempted over the past couple of years I doubt this will have any serious impact - even if Venky's wanted to change things they couldn't. If they can't fire Derek Shaw for "going rogue" it's very unlikely they can do anything to significantly help the club in any way.

Saying that, it's still good to get the truth of our situation out into the media, so well done on getting the publicity!

Really? How often do you see John Leslie on TV nowadays?

If it deters people from buying shares, getting heavily involved with their many businesses and puts distance between them and potential clients in India, then this article is a good thing.

As Abbey would say, does this stuff even register with the Punatics?

There is no such thing as bad publicity.

This has registered with the owners because it was in a serious business newspaper that is read by Business people, so I doubt that they will be pleased about Business people reading about their idiotic running of Rovers.

But Rovers aren't what the Venky's brand is primarily about. It's simply one of their subsidiaries, an item somewhere down the agenda, Balaji's little plaything. Business partners and prospective clients will be far more concerned with their reputation when it comes to fried chicken and pharmaceuticals than managing a small town English football team. So long as they're still doing those things right, will it matter to people if they're making a hash of Rovers? I'm not standing in the way of stories like this, the more exposure the better (for our own satisfaction), but I honestly think it will have no great effect on the Punatics.
