Mccarthy (inspite of his fitness/motivation issues) was absolutely terrific to watch. Was cool seeing Rovers regularly on Soccer AM's 'Showboat' feature haha.

A few years ago when we was in Portugal for preason we had the misfortune of being behind the team at passport control (shambles!). When Benni got to the window to say the guard become starstruck was an understatement! Was there for about five minutes talking to him about football whilst everyone was in a queue behind.

You wash your mouth out. Brett Emerton backheeled the ball at least once a game, every game he played for us, regardless of whether or not it was the right thing to do. Benni has a long way to go before his backheeling can be spoken of in the same breath as Emo's.

...he's the most talented backheeler I've ever seen...

2nd highest goalscorer behind Drogba in the league if I recall. He was top quality that season. And then we got 2.5 million for him haha. That's got to be right up there in terms of the best transfer business in recent years.

And we still don't know what happened to that money.

Pocketed by the Trust before the sale, me suspects.

My personal interview highlight was when he referred to Jason Roberts as his wife (early on in his Rovers career when they were showing signs of a promising partnership)

Haha thats pretty funny, only Benni would think of himself as the man in a theoretical relationship with a guy the size of Roberts. My personal favourite is his attack on Brady, I mean at the time she probably had a point, but she'd had that coming a while.

Oh yeah, that guy who's had 5 great seasons for Rovers and has a more critical thread than Benni Mac who's had about 1.5.

it was david dunn who supplied the pass to mccarthy for the goal v arsenal.. :tu:

And we still don't know what happened to that money.

Pocketed by the Trust bank before the sale, me suspects.

corrected for you.

Great first season, and afterwards famous for inventing 'Benni McCarthy Syndrome,' where the longer you go without playing due to being complete crap, the better a player the fans remember you being. And then you play....

Yeah, a top class player on his day. Just too bad he let himself go. I'm not sure if that coincided with the death of his (ex?) girlfriend or not. Might be I'm making excuses for him here.

Very good interview with Benni McCarthy on Talksport.

38 minutes onwards he starts talking about his time with us. Great insight into how different it was under Hughes than Ince.

Wow. He really hated Ince and he tells it as it is.

That was my personal highlight I think he referred to him like that because he formed a very good strike partnership with JR even with RSC Benni Mc didn't form that good a partnership.

I think we all knew he did let himself really go but that daft cow Brady definitely had that coming to her the 2 faced mare believed she had made it when she left Brum and for her to be lumbered with the 2 porn bros it couldn't have happened to a nicer person nothing would give me greater pleasure than for her the 2 porn bros & BFS is if WHU get relegated it would be even sweeter for us to replace them in the PL.

Loved listening to that interview. Great bloke and a superb talent. Looking at the talksport page he looks quite slim now too. Benny summed up the difference between Hughes , Allardyce and that dud Paul Ince to perfection. Small wonder Friedel went and Bentley kicked off on that pre season tour is it? One would have thought Ince's experience with SAF would have taught him that he most definitely wasn't 'the Guvnor' but the thick sod walked into Ewood with the same attitude. Thinking back way too many airy fairy dreamers on here supported his appointment at the time without thinking it through. I doubt I'll ever understand why..... and an even bigger mystery which I'll never understand either was what on earth John Williams was thinking of when he preferred Ince to Big Sam just 10 miles down the road and a free agent..... Oh wait it was those faceless facebook warriors wasn't it? As for Darren Lewis and Oliver Holt are both completely malicious and agenda'd knobheads who abused their positions in the press in attempting to besmirch the club on the race ticket. Unfounded racist accusation is replacing nationalism as being the last refuge of a scoundrel imo.

McCarthy spelled out what I'd always thought; Ince was and never should be, a manager of a football team. Between him walking in annoying everybody with his ego and his 3rd rate backroom staff it was obvious that we were doomed.

I speculate that Williams thought of Ince much like he did Hughes; young with a point to prove. But all Ince wanted to prove was how good he once was. He should never get another manager's job, but club execs are easily swayed. Ince should have more than enough money not to need to work. If he is that interested in football he should work with under 10's as they will have no clue who he is.

Guest Norbert

make more sense to only allow him to work with over 60's! He'll not spoil them for the future will he?

You got me thinking of him as a cockney Father Dougal now. All he'd need is an assistant with a remote control wheelchair and fake rubber arms.

I respect his candour but he admits that himself and others would exaggerate injuries because they didn't want to play for Ince. What about the supporters paying their wages? Ironic that he says everyone was pulling up trees once Allardyce turned up, yet he was still carrying the pounds. Any so-called 'professional' who lets themselves go like he did should be ashamed of himself. Great talent, just a shame he wasted much of it.

Furthermore, even if the Facebook campaign against Allardyce was a deciding factor (and I'd argue that it wasn't), you make it sound like Ince was the only recourse. John Williams had a number of options to choose from. Michael Laudrup, for one. Feck knows what voodoo Ince pulled to get the job.

Played for us for one year although paid for much longer. Didn't get what he was playing for, a transfer to Chelsea and then gave up (while continuing to take the money). I have no respect for him at all.

This is true, he came with the intention of doing a Bellamy and using us as a stepping stone, probably the only reason we landed him so fair enough but to let himself go so much was an insult to club and fans never mind himself. Great player and a nice guy but he was out boozing and birding around Manchester several times a week virtually the whole time he was with us, he wasn't alone either :)
