Can't see any role for Bairstow in Test Cricket. The only place for him is as keeper and batting at 6 and England have obviously decided we have a better keeper than him

On these pitches facing spinners he's out of his depth as a batsman, its sad to watch him.

. By all accounts it's a good pitch so India's batsmen will be disappointed not to make 350. Can we make 140 to avoid an innings defeat? Unlikely

Just listen to your Uncle JIm.

It’s a relief to get that over. I guess England think so too.

Bottom line is that we just didn’t have the batting technique for those wickets. It always been that way and I can’t see any way we can change that.

Unless Root and Stokes score runs England will always struggle, especially away from home. The rest manage the odd good score but can't do it consistently or just aren't good enough . Some of them have poor techniques which doesn't get found out at county level and is an indictment of the domestic game. I mean Sibley - most decent club batsmen have a better technique than him

Batting has been a problem for England for years, since Cook, Trott, Bell, Pietersen, Flintoff and Vaughan et al were in their pomp. The cupboard looks bare too.

Clearly have to find someone but other than Root, who averages 49.6, none of the batsmen are currently good enough to justify a place. Burns averages 30.73, Crawley 37.16, sibley 32.48, bairstow 34.45, stokes 37.19, Pope 32.78, Lawrence 21.71, buttler 34.53, Ali 28.88, foakes 36, Denly 29.83. Obviously stokes contributes as an all rounder, foakes a keeper but in terms of purely batting contributions we have Root. That’s it.

Perhaps if the county championship wasn’t reduced to a spring and autumn sport in favour of crickets answer to baseball then might allow young batsmen to learn their trade a bit better.

We've completely lost our way regarding ways of bringing Test standard players through. Building an innings or hanging on in there to wear down the bowlers are lost arts in the new era of tip and run cricket.

England utterly clueless how to bat on turning pitches but it's not a surprise as when a county produces them and produces spinners for England their reward is a points deduction.

The selection for the last 2 test was terrible, you really do wonder if they even looked at the pitch. The rotation and sending players home seemed to have no thought to it, it almost seems as though they have prioritised T20 cricket.

All that said this is a fantastic India team, probably their best ever. When you look at some of the high quality players who either missed out through injury or non selection for this series their strength in depth is quite something.

If England are going to get back to the top of test cricket then we need to start treating first class cricket in this country with more respect instead of playing in mainly in April, May and September and weakening the competition with this stupid change of structure.

Sadly none of that will happen anytime soon as the ECB have wasted a fortune on a tournament that we don't need and is not cricket. We were told after the 2019 Ashes that winning them back in Australia in 20/21 would be the priority but looking ahead to that you'd have to say that another hiding down under looks on the cards.

It would help if the pool of young cricketers was larger. When do you see young lads playing cricket in the streets unless they're Asian? I always thought young Asians would come through to play for England one day but it doesn't seem to be happening on any scale.

How many non-fee paying schools have cricket pitches these days!
