And I love the convict jibes, ask any English soldier in 1916 and they where happy as Larry knowing the convicts where holding the line!!

Ah, Gallipoli. Another longstanding whinge like the so-called "Bodyline" series.

Come on then. are you the descendant of convicts or just another turncoat ?

Good interview with Andy Flower on the radio today. I might be wrong but he sounds like he's ready to pack it in.

Oh, and people who dare to have a go at Dave Birch is laughable.. This country "Australia" is being built on people like Dave.

I sure all the people making the sly remarks have never visited these shores.. To know how welcome you are made and given a fair go, no matter who you are!! Is what makes this country so great.

This argument has been going on since the first ashes and plenty of English have moved over since.. Though wether winning or losing for some strange reason those kids who could go either way, 99% they want to play for Australia..

If you've never been here, worked here and travelled the country don't even try to understand!!

OK , I won't.

DIARY OF A POM IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA . . .

August 31

— Just got transferred with work from Blackburn UK to our new home in Karratha , Western Australia

Now this is a town that knows how to live!

Beautiful, sunny days and warm, balmy evenings.

I watched the sunset from a deckchair by our pool yesterday.

It was beautiful.

I've finally found my new home.

I love it here.

September 13

— Really heating up now.

It got to 31 today.

No problem though.

Living in air-conditioned home, driving air-conditioned car.

What a pleasure to see the sun every day like this.

I'm turning into a sun-worshipper - no blasted rain like back in Blackburn !!

September 30

— Had the back yard landscaped with tropical plants today.

Lots of palms and rocks.

No more mowing lawns for me!

Another scorcher today, but I love it here.

It's Paradise !

October 10

— The temperature hasn't been below 35 all week.

How do people get used to this kind of heat?

At least today it's windy though.

Keeps the flies off a bit.

Acclimatizing is taking longer than we expected.

October 15

— Fell asleep by the pool yesterday.

Got third degree burns over 60% of my body.

Missed three days off work.

What a dumb thing to do..

Got to respect the old sun in a climate like this!

October 20

— Didn't notice Kitty (our cat) sneaking into the car before I left for work this morning.

By the time I got back to the car after work, Kitty had died and swollen up to the size of a shopping bag and stuck to the upholstery.

The car now smells like Whiskettes and cat @#/?.

I've learned my lesson though: no more pets in this heat.

October 25

— This wind is a @#/?.

It feels like a giant @#/? blow dryer.

And it's hot as hell!

The home air conditioner is on the blink and the repair man charged $200 just to drive over and tell me he needs to order parts from @#/? Perth .....The wife & the kids are complaining.

October 30

— The temperature's up around 40 and the parts still haven't arrived for the @#/? air conditioner.

House is an oven so we've all been sleeping outside by the pool for 3 nights now.

Bloody $600,000 house and we can't even go inside.

Why the hell did I ever come here?

November 4

— Finally got the @#/? air-conditioner fixed. It cost $1,500 and gets the temperature down to around 25 degrees, but the humidity makes it feel about 35.

Stupid repairman.

@#/? thief.

November 8

— If one more smart @#/? says 'Hot enough for you today?'

I'm going to @#/? throttle him.

@#/? heat!

By the time I get to work, the car radiator is boiling over, my @#/? clothes are soaking @#/? wet and I smell like baked cat.

@#/? place is the end of the Earth.

November 9

— Tried to run some errands after work, wore shorts, and sat on the black leather upholstery in my car.

I thought my @#/? arse was on fire.

I lost 2 layers of flesh, all the hair on the backs of my legs and off my @#/? arse.

Now the car smells like burnt hair, fried arse and baked cat.

@#/?. @#/?. @#/?.

November 10

— The Weather report might as well be a @#/? recording..

Hot and sunny.

Hot and sunny, Hot and @#/? sunny.

It never @#/? changes!

It's been too hot to do anything for 2 @#/? months and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week.

@#/?!

November 15

— Doesn't it ever rain in this damn @#/? place?

Water restrictions will be next, so my $5,000 worth of palms might just dry up and blow into the @#/? pool.

The only things that thrive in this @#/? hell-hole are the @#/? flies.

You don't dare open your mouth for fear of swallowing half a dozen of the little @#/?s!

November 20

— Welcome to HELL!

It got to 45 @#/?' degrees today.

Now the air conditioner gone in my car.

The repair man came to fix it and said, 'Hot enough for you today?'

I wanted to shove the @#/? car up his @#/? arse.

Anyway, had to spend the $2,500 mortgage payment to bail me out of jail for assaulting the stupid prick.

@#/? Karratha!

What kind of sick, demented @#/? idiot would want to live here!

December 1

— WHAT!!!! The FIRST day of Summer!!!!

You are @#/? kidding me!

The mistakes are that they took the Aussie attack for granted and the Australian middle order stood up to be counted for once, the rest is that mentally we were up for it and the England team thought they were going to stroll home on the back of Bell and Trott again.....

Still two tests to go, hopefully we rest some players and give some young blood who are likely for 2015 a go.

Nah mate..Im a lot slimmer for a start.

Whereas you are as grumpy a kean as Victor with a bit of Alf Garnett thrown in.

As for the cricket im hoping there will more changes than just the wicketkeeper.

Wit deserted you has it Onslow?

Guest Norbert

The English team needs either a purge of its senior players, or at least give them an extended rest. We need a new captain at least. Someone aggressive and a genuine leader.

"I feel that now is the right time to step down."

Really? For whom?

Clearly he doesn't care about the prospect of a whitewash. Maybe they've already forfeited.

Unless he's been asked to quit then that's pretty gutless not to stay and fight until the end of the series.

It really is like we just had no intention to compete in this series whatsoever. I feel a bit sorry for our Australian cousins. It's been a pretty hollow victory for them, with both sets of fans being short-changed.

Not so sure about that Stuart.

I think, being taken apart in this series might have had some effect, but he wouldn't become a bad bowler overnight, and "slowies" are used to a bit of stick now and again.

I'm disappointed that he didn't hang around for Melbourne (Boxing Day would have been a blast for him, I'm sure. 90K in the stands), but in Sydney, he would have had a field day for the last three (maybe four) days.

He was one of those players the opposition used to love to hate, but secretly wished he was on your side. Grudging respect, is the term I believe. I'm sure you had the same feeling about Warnie.

Maybe he's had enough of touring.

However, I feel that he could have gone out on a high note after Sydney.

I wouldn't judge him on this. I've known quite a few people who just suddenly realise they can't do it, whatever it is, any more. Happens a lot in teaching where a member of staff just realises that the cumulative effect of the job has become too much. They ring in sick and never reappear. He's out of form anyway and maybe part of that is just that he doesn't want to be there, hasn't wanted to consciously acknowledge it but it's been in the back of his mind for a while, and the current situation, with the ashes gone, gives the selectors chance to have a look at what they need to change, because results and attitude say we need to change something pretty soon.

I'm certain it was a spur of the moment thing.

Certainly Brasnan, writing on the Beebs website didn't know about it yesterday.

Monty would have been recalled to Melbourne anyway, if he was playing in Sydney Grade, as he was part of the touring party and would have to have been available if required.

Whatever the reason, the worst thing you could throw at Swann is apauling timing.
