Reagan and Thatcher fecked the whole World up, with their extremely greedy form of capitalism,

massive tax cuts for the rich and credit and store cards for everyone, including the poor, who could'nt

really afford them.

The whole world is now fecked for ever, millions of people around Europe and the World on minimum wage, zero hours contracts,

Unless you give young people hope of a decent life, with a well paid job things are only going to get worse, much worse IMO.

Blackburn, for a change is no worse than most towns around the country, in fact it's better than many of the formerly well to do areas in the

south, particularly the seaside towns, believe me I've seen some very surprising 'shitholes' in the last few years.

The US, and many of the countries in Europe have worse problems than we do, BTW. fact !

End of.

And your solution is?

Nice sentiment, but where have you been for the last 50 years?

Having seen the Blackburn End hurl bunches of bananas at opposition goalkeepers, Rovers fans throwing coins into away supporters, Rovers fans lying in wait for opposition fans, Rovers fans targetting and destroying opposition pubs, racist and homeophobic chanting and behaviour, crowd unrest and violence countless times over the years, I cannot agree that the current classless, moronic element with their repetitive, insulting and boring chants are any worse than years gone by. I wonder when the normal decency and rules you allude to ever applied at football matches?

Young blokes. Away days. Drinking. Football matches. Vulgar language. Violence. Abuse. More drinking. More vulgarity and crassness. Hardly rocket science.

I'm totally in agreement with you.

I'm far from politically correct but do my best and am generally diplomatic.

However, don't decry our ever dwindling support and castigate them for everything.

The world's gone mad, what happened to banter?

The whole general fabric of a football away day has always been 'laddish' and goad and take the Mickey out of the opposition and their fans. Chear the Rovers on till the death.

In my 40 odd years of following Rovers home and away our support rarely oversteps the mark and if anyone does, they are usually put straight by one of 'the old school'.

We are The Bloody Rovers!

"Do you want your children or grandchildren to attend Ewood Park in the future if it is populated by loud , aggressive morons . Think about it"

Not really, but it has always been that way. First went on Rovers with my Gran when I was 7. Been taking my son since he was 6. Surrounded by drunken supporters on the Blackburn End for most years thereafter, with aggressive swearing and behaviour common place and most songs including swear words and foul chanting. Thankfully the organised violence of the 70's and 80's is fast diminishing and if it now boils down just to embarrassing chanting we can be relatively thankful.

Your kids won't suddenly turn into the louts you describe by going to the football and will still abide by and respect your parental rules and guidance. Sadly, they will hear similar or worse on the school playground.

And your solution is?

I Don't have the solution, but whilst everything politicians do, is at the behest of giant corporations, even to the point of going to war to

keep the military manufacturers happy, nothing will change.

I'm afraid greed is the worst sin, for the world.

You forgot to put End Of. ;)

Though you couldn't be more wrong over military manufacturers being the reason for picking on islamist nutters as I work for one (can't speak for America). There are plenty of other spurious reasons for going to war but spending money willy nilly on arms isn't one of them. Though its a by product.

On the subject of towns and their people Blackburn was a shithole with it's fair share of bums and shirkers when I was 10 and it's still the same way now. No better, no worse despite what the Daily Mail feed some of you ;)

You're misreading what I meant Wolfie. The underclass is not to be confused with the working class, or those in a hard situation and are trying to get by. The latter two want to do better for themselves, try to work and have a sense of pride when they do. The underclass are those who bum around life, walking out of jobs because they were made to lift a finger and think they are God's gift. The sort who drink lager at 10 in the morning, shout abuse at strangers and throw chips at people and keep that Jeremy Kyle in a job. You know the sort. These people are the ones the right wing media seek out to say that everyone who is out of a job is scum.

Frightening that the bold description can be used for about half the fellow students I came across at UCLAN in the last 4 years :/

This thread made me so nostalgic, I had to put on my 60's pandora station on.

Just listening to "The Who" My Generation.

It all comes back, we had nothing, but something to look forward to.

In my case I had the magic land down under, and what it gave me.

Thanks to Norm for making that epic trip with me.

and yes, they did have idiots that smashed up trains on the way back from games. I remember seeing SMC games master Tommy Duckworth watching an SMC pupil put a window out on a train. Death would have been easier for that pupil

Thats the problem though is'nt it, none of us can speak for America, but we have had there greedy, violent culture pushed down our throats for

decades, via tv and cinema, whilst our politicians kiss their arses and follow them into wars at the drop of a hat.

One fact that is quite shocking, is that the yanks spend more on weapons than the rest of the world put together.

It was a lot better back then . It was a good night out . Now it's embarrassing.

Blackburn town centre was a good night out back then, Mr G's etc

Wouldn't set foot down there now

Bit harsh that, and I don't mind our Island being friends with the biggest lad in the playground

Well if you're happy being the 51st state, I was born British and believe we have much more in common with Europe.

Those bloody yanks have bullied the rest of the world for long enough IMO,

I'd start by telling them to clear their bloody air bases of our Islands.

Mr G's lol had some rare old times in there in the 90's. Can't believe we used to go round Chorley then get a taxi to G's about midnight quite regularly if we weren't in Blackburn.

Blackburn was a good night out when I was a tween. One of the first to extend pub hours and you could get a beer long after Manchestah had shut down and gone to bed.

Nowadays it's like The Special's song, yet other pubs are doing a roaring trade on the outskirts like The Golden Cup, Black Bull in Tockholes and Station at Cherry Tree

Woman that owned it lived three doors down from my parents (estate behind brown cow)

She used to wave us to the front of the queue and we got abuse from everyone else waiting !

On reflection I would prefer to be a 51st state than dictated to from Brussels. I can at least converse with Americans. Not so with most of scrounging Europe.

Good job it wasn't Joe Stewart :)

Please don't do that ever again!! Just the mention of his name brings back a flood of long suppressed memories, and still makes my blood run cold.

1985. The town was a dump and most seemed to drink wine in the cathedral grounds.......to a 10 year old

I was 10 in 1965. I remember Blackburn much farther back when we had industry and jobs were plentiful. Walk through the town back then and it was rare to see men during the day cos they were all at work, and most of those you did see were on nights. Mothers picked their kids up from school on foot, people packed into pubs and churches and the community was much closer. The average monthly mortgage was usually covered out of one mans weekly pay packet. The quality of the shops in the town were better with no scummy £shops and stores specialising in used games and assorted cheap tatt. Sure there were still dickheads, scroats and hardmen about but the entire town was self sustainable and there was an air of pride about the place, nowadays it just seems to live off central govt hand outs.
