Parsonblue 5468
A very good win and an excellent performance, particularly up to the point when Butterworth came off injured. First twenty minutes or so it was fairly even and Cardiff looked like being tough opponents. Then we started knocking it around with increased confidence and played some lovely pass and move football. Hardcastle and Mols were outstanding in midfield, Mols playing in an unfamiliar position on the right wing. Rankin-Costello took his goals well and Butterworth was a constant threat playing just behind Mansell. Ward and Hoban looked, as you would expect, a class apart and controlled things at the back without breaking sweat. This allowed Travis and Doyle to continually attack down the flanks from full-back. Injuries to Butterworth and Doyle meant we lost momentum in the second half and although we created numerous chances we didn't take them. Cardiff's consolation came with the last kick of the match. This was another very impressive performance from Rovers youngsters considering they were without Nyambe, Tomlinson, Mahoney, Platt and Thomson. Hardcastle is returning to form after a lean time, Mols looks an outstanding attacking prospect, as does Rankin-Costello and in Butterworth we looked to have picked up a real prospect from United. Travis and Doyle were excellent in the full-backs positions - both in defence and going forward. The ideal game for Ward and Hoban as they got 90 minutes in without being overworked. Fraserkirky 1792
Looking forward to the report. Rankins-Costello seems to love a goal, we could do with some of those in the first team. Would be great to have Hoban back for this Saturday. Free the Mulgrew!!!! I assume Mowbray was there? All sounds very positive. Cheers for that. Glad to hear the two lads played 90.

Thanks Parson for the report. Hopefully Hoban will be back on Saturday. Is Platt injured? Was it just Johnson on the touchline or was Wes Brown there as his number 2? Do you know much about Butterworth, why he left Man U etc? He sounds like a real prospect. Is he quick. skilful etc?

Parsons still hasn't passed comment on David Lowe yet, an ex academy coach who achieved very little but suddenly promoted to the first team.

Bigdoggsteel 7861
OK. I was just reading about Kevin McDonald getting in trouble at villa for his approach to younger players. The article was laying out the huge differences between say cat 1 and 2 with regards standards. It is very positive that we still have 1.
Parsonblue 5468
Disappointing performance today at a very wet and windy Brockhall by the Under-23 team. A different system - three centre-backs with Henley and Hendrie operating as wing backs - didn't work and ultimately we were beaten by the only goal by the better side. We missed two decent early chances but never got a look in after that. Sunderland looked very impressive and thoroughly deserved their win. Both teams now go into the draw for the knock-out stage. We were already through though ,weren't we? Did Hoban and Ward play? I really don't understand why we used a loan spot on Hendrie.
