Blackburn and Wigan fought out an exciting draw at the DW Stadium this afternoon. Substitute Albert Crusat had looked as if he had fired home the winner with little time remaining, but Rovers secured a point when Yakubu slotted home a penalty after Paul Robinson had been fouled having come up for a corner.

The away side had taken the lead only 66 seconds into the match when Yakubu latched onto a defensive mistake by Gary Caldwell and dinked the ball over Al Habsi. Wigan were only behind for a matter of minutes as Jordi Gomez fired the home side level from just outside of the area. There was some controversy surrounding the goal as it appeared as if a retreating Wigan player had obstructed Robinson's view from an offside position.

Rovers nearly retook the lead when Pedersen's well-struck free-kick hit the post with Al Habsi beaten, but shortly after it was the home side that went ahead when Gary Caldwell found himself unmarked to head home a corner and atone for his earlier lapse in concentration.

After the break Rovers' task was made even more difficult when David Dunn was shown a red card for his second bookable offence, but the away side levelled in the 59th through David Hoilett. It appeared as if Pedersen dribbled straight from the corner, but there were no appeals from the Wigan players and the goal stood.

Wigan looked to have grabbed the winner when Crusat latched on to Rodellaga's lay-off to score from 20 yards, but Rovers sent every man forward for a corner deep into injury time and it was Paul Robinson who was fouled. Yakubu coolly scored the penalty and the match ended in a dramatic draw.

The point means that both sides remain in the bottom two spots in the league and it is unlikely that the draw will have done much to relieve the pressure on Steve Kean.
