Our priorities lie in defence of course; but I don’t buy this ‘not another midfielder’ lark either. For all the talk of how many midfielders we have, we have 2 CM’s that are anything above poor in Travis and Johnson. Evans can’t cut it, Smallwood is wank and Buckley looked like a competition winner on Saturday. Wouldn’t mind bringing another in.

Was completely the wrong situation to be bringing on Buckley but I do agree with you. Buckley should be brought on initially when we're coasting in games, not as the kid to tray and get us back in the game.

Agreed. I said that when he came on Saturday. We need players who can change the game not a young lad all the enthusiasm but none of the nous needed!

An extra striker would have helped anyway - not another midfielder but yes, heaping that kind of pressure on to a kid that is still so inexperienced was not the right move. It actually seems that hsi substitutions were premeditated, that he decided before the game who he would be bringing on. No imagination or tactical nous.

Ya, it was an awful substitution.Wrong player on, wrong player off, wrong position. Reminded me of something Martin O'Neill would have done. Not good.

I want him to move upstairs in Director of Football Role, and Johnson to be given the job Head Coach job.

Sorry but I think Mowbray needs to be out of our club.  IMO, he's a football dinosaur who would add no value in a DOF role; just what are his competences for that role!?!?

Waggott on Gallagher: “But he was always No.1 target for Tony"

That, in a nutshell, sums up the imbeciles running Rovers.

Goes back to last season even...obvious we tried to get him then. Couldnt work a deal so the BB thing sprang up when it was obvious we had cash burning a hole in our pocket.

Rovers/Mowbray should be targeting a centre back and Left Back before the deadline. Bring in Michael Hector(centre back) and Greg Cunningham(left back and available from Cardiff) and we are looking at top 6 finish otherwise we arent.

I'm sorry but a centre-back and a left-back wouldn't make us a Top 6 team. Watch Derby, Leeds, West Brom and the real Top 6 teams play, we've got nothing on them.

I'm not a negative person, and most of the time I'm slated for being overly positive (see my opinions on BB) but to me, every team from 7th to 18th is battling it out in mid-table obscurity, and we're one of them. We simply don't have the playing style and the options off the bench that these others teams do. For me, a centre-back and a left back come in and I'd be expecting 10th, 11th or 12th. To push for the top 6 now we'd have to have a 20 goal a season striker, a whole new defence and totally different playstyle.

That's okay though, to me there's nothing wrong with us being a mid-table side for now. We've got a lot of young players, and soon that 20 goal a season striker slot mentioned above could well be filled by a Sam Gallagher, a Ben Brereton, or if he was played up front, an Adam Armstrong.

Ya, I think in Mowbrays head the plan was for Lenihan and Williams to be first choice, with Bauer, Mulgrew and Tosin as back ups. The Bauer deal falling through, Williams getting injured and Tosin signing late meant Mulgrew was back in.

I reckon if we got an offer for Mulgrew , he would leave. Stripping him of the captaincy and not selling him could disrupt the camp a bit. It would be easier to do it if a new manager came in.

I do believe that Tony has money for a deadline day bargain. No doubt players could cost millions less than they did a month earlier. Then again I was 100% sure he would start Rothwell the weekend too.....

Mulgrew is on too much dollar - doubt there'd be any takers at his level of wages.

I sense Chaddy is starting to turn with a few doubts coming to the surface

Funnily though, we bet all 3 of them last season...

I can understand that to a degree he's been here before and proved quite popular, likes the club and wanted to join but was too expensive so when he did become available we were always likely to have a punt.

Add in his agent it was always a goer.

Still no excuse whatsoever for not sorting the defence if we can afford to loan in the City lad and throw probably a million quid straight down the drain in Downing we can afford a decent defender or two.

Yep the tempo and aggressiveness of the team will have to go up several notches on a regular basis as well.

Have to agree. There isn't that much to be scared of from anyone in this division. We showed that we can compete with them last season - we are just not helping ourselves by not strengthening our obvious weak points. Our defence and Raya cost us loads of points last season, points that shouldn't have been dropped - give those points back to us and we were not far away.

I truly believe some words will come back and haunt some on this board. Granted we still need a good old fashioned centre half, someone who will spill blood for the cause, trouble is they just don't make that kind of player anymore, its an out dated image of times gone by.

For me, Ashley Williams, a freebie is the one player that we could and should be looking to employ. Solid as a rock, ability to attack a ball, hold up play but more importantly is able to LEAD a back 4 competently in this league. It is all that is required.

We have the midfield we have the attackers we just need a bloody big lad at the heart of the defence to bring out the best of the rest.

Nyambe at RB and a new LB too.

I can safely say that I think we all hope you're right but one centre half isn't going to solve our full back issues too.

Over the past 2 Summer windows, our main purchases are 2 strikers who currently could be considered bang average at best.

Hell, Waggot now claims Gallagher was our No 1 target in this window!!

Meanwhile, central defence continues to be ignored apart from a City loan who will be gone in January if things do not work out to City's wishes.

I really think Mowbray has lost the plot if he ever had one.

If we get mid-table mediocrity this year I will be pleased and surprised.

It pisses me off that Mowbray and his cronies are now running the Ewood Circus, but its a position of power he has craved a long time. He just had to wait to find the right fecked up Club at the right time for him, and Paul Senior duly obliged before becoming Keaned.

Rooney seems like just the deal we should have been after.

Must still have a house in the area, so would have been more convenient than Derby.

Great experience to pass on to younger players and could definitely still do a job in the Championship.

Would be just the kind of big name the owners were desperately after when they first joined.

He might turn out to be rubbish and a horrific coach, but it would have at least generated a bit of interest.

Probably your's. We won't be getting a "good old-fashioned centre-half" for a start!

He's been finished for a long time. Would definitely stir up interest and push up crowd numbers---- till everyone realised he hasn't got it anymore.
