As someone who sees food bank use from the point of those who work there, I have to say that here in the relatively affluent Ribble Valley there is a massive need for food banks. Our food bank here dealt with more cases than ever before Christmas. Being aspirational does not mean that things cant go wrong for you. Anyone, yes anyone can find that they lose their job, fall on hard times. Yes the ideal is for all to have enough and live above the poverty line but the reality is that it's not currently the case in Britain. And if only a small part of the NHS goes out to private companies then the chances of more people missing out, falling into health poverty, increases massively

I’m not sure what point you are making to be honest, but it’s a national disgrace and needs to be highlighted.
I don’t think it’s possible to highlight it too much, maybe that’s just me.

I'm saying people are sick of labour and their rhetoric about how shit the country is, when clearly it isnt.  Too much in my opinion, free broadband for christ sake....?

Then you should have said that first time around ?. I don’t think that’s their message, but you’re entitled to your view.

Cant believe corbyn is still at the despatch box today, Labour is screwed big time

You happy to see huge chunks of the NHS handed over to the American private market as well Chaddy?

Who says it will remain free at the point of use? You keep making statements with nothing to back them up.

You keep saying this but nothing to prove it wont remain free at the point of use? where is the evidence of it?

Do you actually think the railways in this country for example are up to standard? I went to Bavaria last week. Travelled on the local trains from munich to the Alps. Excellent service, even on Sunday and they've just brought prices down because they're trying to encourage use.

You started off by saying the NHS isn’t being sold off, now you’re saying that as long as it’s still free at the point of use, that’s fine by you. The NHS won’t have a board with “for sale” put in front of it, it will be privatised bit by bit, contract by contract.

it can be free at the point of use but run for the benefit of private profit and that’s fine by you as well?

Are you happy that the Dutch, German and Spanish governments among others are running our railways ?

I'm not.

But then I'm a patriot.

British train service is sub par. Unfortunately the country is still paying for the sins of Beeching's cuts in the 1960's.

Someone posted in the PNE match thread that it is cheaper for them to get a taxi from Blackpool to Ewood than the train. That's madness.

Free broadband would have been a massive boost to the economy, particularly for start-ups and small businesses.

The big mobile groups would have been put out of business, but it wouldn't have mattered because they are Tory donors.

Privatisation is to blame for the stupidly high train fares.

This country's fine for the elite tax dodgers. They got the vote they wanted last month and everyone was very pleased.

The Bayernkarte giving you all day travel in bavaria and down as far as Salzburg in Austria used to be very cheap but it's gone up recently as they've changed the way the cost is calculated. It was still only £55 for 5 of us and we could have travelled much more than we did.

To be honest this year I've visited Estonia, Finland, germany, france, Sweden, Denmark, austria and in all of them I've felt more pride in their own countries as well as in being european than I ever do here. Our patriotism seems to hark back to a time that never really was and isn't out looking embracing change and seeing how we can make it work for us

Yet Arriva who runs Northern Rail amongst others is owned by the German state owned Deutsche Bahn so not sure your comparison stacks up to scrutiny.

German efficiency ?

Some have been sailing very close to the wind on the last few pages. Can we play nicely please?

Thanks.

Just giving this a final bump before warnings are handed out.
In layman’s terms- even though many of us wildly disagree with each other, don’t be dicks to each other please?
Thanks again.

Dear Tories, Socialists and Mods alike.

Northern rail just launched their 10p flash sale for anyone who fancies a cheap day out.

https://www.northernrailway.co.uk/sale

German giveaway ?

10p is too much when the train is cancelled and bus substitution service fails to show up.

...and another one heads for the privatisation dustbin. The Tories knew Jezza was right

That will keep going up now that we won't be funding them anymore. Hurrah for Brexit

I couldn't comment on the standard of the railways as I don't used them. It's easier, cheaper and quickly to travel by car.

I know what other people say about poor quality of northern rail.

But European rails are set to allow to privatisation by EU law as I have posted the link before
