But our post lockdown results were shockingly bad despite the possession!  Surely a case for not adopting that approach.

Agreed, with all of these stupid ideas that Mowbray came up with, it became possession for the sake of it.

My post was more based on something I had said yesterday, that I am sure that stats of us having possession in the low 40s in terms % seemed miles out and so they were.

I also dont agree with Mowbray wanting to keep chopping and changing week in week out as he has mentioned. I think our best bet is to try and perfect a consistent way of playing. The best teams tend to have a set way of playing whereby if a player has to come out or come in, they know their role and carry on as normal.

It would be counter productive to be too reliant on keeping the ball, especially without Adarabioyo, or trying to force things with silly formations eg false 9s. Equally, playing direct especially without Graham wont work. We need to find our own style, maybe something that requires plenty of energy and pressing as we do have a lot of younger and more athletic players in attack.

He's still in a muddle over it i can see him waffling next mid season that we need to transition from a possession based team to a young vibrant front foot team.

He's already come out with that inbetween claiming we are trying to become a possession team.

Spinning it out is the realty.

Agree wholeheartedly.  with that.  Sheff United have been the best example of that in the last few years and as much as I hate to say it, Burnley also.  Different approaches but both effective and you know what to expect.

We've been at our most dynamic and effective when we've played with a high intensity press. Developing an approach around that would be more effective than this possession lark.

26 year old LB with 51 career league appearances. Sounds about right. 22 Australia caps too though somehow.

Don’t diss the bloke bluebruce. I signed him on footy manager in 2017, originally on loan from Bournemouth. He got plenty of assists and was 2nd in player of the year behind Mulgrew. Signed him for 1.1m the year after and he was my signing of the year, as voted for by the fans, in back to back promotions. He’s a good en, trust me ?

If I remember rightly, we were in for him when he moved to Bournemouth from Liverpool. May have legs.

Still think i would prefer Cunningham. Just he would require a fee and by the looks of it we are trying to do the defence as cheaply as possible.

Rich Sharpe thinks we tried for Brad Smith in January but ended up going to Cardiff so could have legs

A lot of injuries but must have something about him I'm sure Bournemouth paid 6 million for him

Initial fee of £3m rising to £6m with appearances. Judging by the number of appearances he's made in his career, the rest of that won't be payable for the next few decades,

How about Brad Smith, released by Bournemouth. Didn't we nearly sign him on loan under Coyle before they came in for him last minute?

Replying to
correct. And there were noises about something in January before he went to Cardiff. A possibility.

For all the criticism of players being out of position, Guardiola has made it a huge part of his management. Lahm to cm, mascherano to CB, alaba CB, fernandino to cb. And these are players who were much more established in their 'natural' positions compared to Gallagher

@chaddyroversThanks for confirming that everyone involved at the club with transfers has gone on holiday .My apologies for not qualifying my 'everyone'. You've said that you don't know, if Mowbray knows his budget. You hope the club will issue a statement clarifying this.

Do you think we'll sign anyone before pre-season starts? Do we have to sell before we can sign anyone?

Well it has said by Jaquob Crooke and Nicko that Mowbray knows his budget now.

I have no idea when we will sign players. I hope we get a couple of players in by next weekend.

Still no word on Downing signing a new deal? You would have thought that would be fairly straight forward?

I don't think Downing has made his mind up yet?

Yes Coyle wanted him on loan from Liverpool before he signed Bournemouth and before we signed Williams.

Until we realise everyone costs double what we thought...

That's work should be already done by our recruitment team. Unless Clubs increases the fee they want.

If that happened, the new owners would either have to cut costs by c.£17m p.a. or put c.£17m new money in each season for us to stand stock still. Add COVID income depletion into the mix and that £17m needs another £5m p.a. to make up for gate/hospitality revenue lost.
Should the12 point deduction result in relegation then the new owners would need to find another c.£5m to make up for lost TV money.
Also, unless & until FFP rules post-COVID are clarified, it’s unclear as to whether any additional investment to buy new players would be allowed.
All in all...I’m not sure how you would sell that prospect to a potential new owner.

Obviously you're not just going to be any Tom, Dick or Harry if you're trying to buy a football club.

Someone with a plan would be salivating at acquiring a club with the infrastructure Rovers have.

The apathy of the fan base and the incompetence at Ewood has resulted in millions of £ in lost revenue every season.
