If there is ever concrete premier league interest in him, he'll ask to leave us. He won't give up PL footy (and the wages) to stay with Moggas midtable Rovers. Also gives Newcastle the opportunity to buy him back at a significant knock down fee. Win - win for Newcastle. We lose either way. We won't be able to hold him here against his will, players and agents have the power to move if they want. For the duration of his contract, of course we can hold him here against his will. It's just a matter of being committed to that and willing to take the potential loss of money. Will and willpower. But we don't have those and we need money. But it can happen, look what nearly happened with King.

riverholmes 15
Except in immediate relegation danger, I don't think we should have loaned three Premier League 'starlets' that we have little to no hope of securing long-term. One and, maybe, two, might be ok but signing the three suggests utter short-termism. All three, Branthwaite, Elliot and Harwood-Bellis will go away from Rovers with experience gained and possible increased asset value for their clubs (barring a high-profile end of season collapse which the young defenders get tarnished with). For developing such players, we need to get something commensurate, long-term, in return and I don't see it, however, good all three might be. Perhaps, finances will dictate being an overt feeder club but I'd prefer to resist as much as possible. Edited February 17 by riverholmes

Elliott at the start of the season was that sprinkle of quality we needed. And the two cb's we desperately needed the cover at cb and again that could have helped us get over the line. Although I'd have preffered to have signed a player permanently and kept magloire around. Once the playoffs are a distant dream (thats probably now) then the loan players need to be sidelined. You would likely need to keep one of the cbs in the team to keep us competitive
