Mowbrays Successor

Recommended Posts

There has never been an easier time to appoint a manager than now, out of work managers like all out of work people will be feeling the pinch at the moment. Under normal circumstances you would not get the likes of Pearson, McCarthy and Cowley all prepared to take deal just until the end of the season yet they all have done. I think that a lot of people would be pleasantly surprised by the manager that we could attract.

Another option passes us by.

I don't know what is worse. That there are/have been plenty of good managers available and ready to work who would all likely have been better than Mowbray, gradually all have been snapped up by smaller or similar clubs (lucky them). Many like Pearson, McCarthy, Cowley all willing to accept short term deals to get back into work.

Or that despite a horrendous season there's absolutely no reason to believe that Mowbray is under any scrutiny or pressure or that those running the club have even considered getting rid of him, never mind looked at alternatives to bring in.

Case in point will be Chris Wilder. He's going to at best get a decent Championship club (of which we are one). He's got an incredible record in the leagues, and he's available. We need a new manager. It is so obvious and logical it is untrue. We will need a minor miracle to get to the Prem. He performed that with Sheffield United and kept them there on a small budget.

Yet we will do naff all. Plod along going nowhere whilst Mowbray ties himself in knots and watch as some other struggling Championship club makes their move for him and reaps the benefits.

Expect him to end up somewhere like Derby when they realise Rooney's not good enough or Stoke when they get fed up with O'Neill.

Venky's seem happy enough for us to play mid table mediocrity while they throw Millions down the drain.

They still  haven't a fookin clue how to run this Club properly so Waggott and Mowbray are set to milk it for all its worth...they will be here for as long as possible I fear.

Shit house of a situation and there appears nothing we can do about it bar vote with your feet.

Sheffield United are targeting Jokanovic and Swansea's head coach Steve Cooper to replace Chris Wilder. They look like a director of football/head coach will be brought in there.

Jokanovic's contract is up in the summer at the club in Qatar

Supposedly his wages are 2 million pounds a season. Would Rovers pay that for a manager/head coach?

What do we reckon Mowbray is on? Sounds like too much for Venkys to pay as they always do it on the cheap.

So, we can rule out ever getting into the playoffs (or better) because they won't pay good money for the managerial position.

No idea to be honest. At a guess 500 to 650k a year.

Alot of good managers/head coaches out there who want come here and enjoy the challenge of getting us up

Who have you got in mind?

You mention Wilder. Won't happen. No way would he come here to work the Venky way. Deserves better. West Brom already rumoured to be interested in him.

Frankly, I'm stumped as to a good manager that would come here and work the Venky way.

Work the Venky way? What does that mean?

Plenty of good managers/head coaches out there.

Celtic have been linked with Wilder. But Rovers could get in there first and offer him the terms to come here.

Well considering 9 years ago they were quite happy to give 1 million plus bonus per season to a bloke who previously put the cones out if he managed to get the club relegated from the Premier League, anything is possible

Talking about attractive football. Visiting India to smooze with the owners. Waiting on the slowest approval system in football today. Reporting to Suhail.

Wilder's stock has risen, but I think this season has shown him up a bit. Nevertheless, if we're not going to give him a good budget to play with, he won't be coming here. There are other Championship clubs that will offer him more on that front. West Brom for one.

But Wilder left Sheffield United and one of the reason was over them wanting to bring in sporting director. Well Guess what, WBA have a sporting director/head coach structure and Luke Dowling is their sporting director. Celtic are meant to bring in a sporting director there. So will that appeal to Wilder?

Rovers can offer him total control of transfers to attract him.

Are Venkys bothered about attractive football if we got to the PL?

Didn't Wilder have to report to their owner and CEO so no different with Pasha and Venkys?

Really?  So you think Mowbray has brought in whoever he likes for the past few years?  Nobody else has had an influence?

Unless we are in the room when transfers how do any of us know really? If you know more please feel free to share with the messageboard

Mowbray has a staff he trusted like trusting Lowe's judgement on Sam Hart, or scouts on Dolan or European scouts on Kaminski. These are from Mowbray's comments in the media.

So

but a few minutes later

How does that work?

It's you saying Mowbray doesnt have full control over transfers, so if you saying this how do you know?

Any good manager will rely on his scouting, recruitment and data analysis staff for transfer targets..

Good managers get you promoted, you pay for them or you continue to lose 20 mil per season. I sometimes wonder how that lot got rich.

It really is that simple.

Get the best manager in you possibly can and give him a workable budget.

Well the lad from PNE is available.  A few here suggesting him earlier this season.

He's better than Mowbray, that is clear, as positions and results have shown over the last few years.

Even now, despite them supposedly struggling, losing their best players and him being sacked they are still only 2 points behind us on our 'journey' to nowhere.

Here are some British managers/head coaches we could target to replace Mowbray before next season

Unemployed people:-

  • Chris Wilder
  • Mark Hughes
  • Alex Neil
  • Alan Pardew
  • Garry Monk
  • Neil Harris
  • Tony Pulis
  • Mark Bowen

Employed people but some realistic targets in my opinion

  • Mark Robins from Coventry
  • Gareth Ainsworth from Wycombe
  • Ryan Lowe from Plymouth
  • David Artell from Crewe
  • Karl Robinson from Oxford
  • Gary Rowett from Millwall
  • Callum Davidson from St. Johnstone
  • Lee Carsley, England Under 20's manager

Here are some Foreign managers/head coaches we could target to replace Mowbray before next season(dont know whether they would be interested as I don't follow European football much)

  • Marco Silva, former Everton, Watford and Hull head coach
  • Bruno Lage, former Benfica head coach
  • Vladimir Ivic, Former Watford head coach
  • David Wagner, Former Huddersfield head coach

What do people think and feel free to suggestion potential targets in you have any. Thanks
