What Does Next Season Have In Store ?

Recommended Posts

I'm expecting a similar struggle to last year. Mowbray's still unsure about his formation and line-up and we may yet see Gallagher on the left wing. The loss of Elliot is partly compensated for by McBride, if he's used and develops, and a more confident Brereton - and Dolan may figure more. However, the issue remains that Mowbray has no effective plan as to how to set his team up. I expect to see frequent rotation, with Dolan, Bradley Johnson, Rankin-Costello, Davenport, Gallagher coming in and out of a disjointed team. The football league rule switch back to 3 subs in a game will, I think, affect Rovers, as, last year, Mowbray seemed to rely on drastic changes to chase games.

And, the outcome from the season? An average to low finish and losing players, including, some of our better ones, on free transfers.

---

1) Not sure about Waggott

2) Mowbray may lose his job in November, after a string of defeats.

3) Player of the season - Armstrong, if he stays - otherwise, Kaminski

3.1) Young Player of the Season - McBride

4) 15th.

5) Fulham

Wisdom of the crowds type thing…what do we predict for the following…?

1. Will Steve Waggott still be at Rovers on 1/7/22 ? If no, date of departure.

2. Will Tony Mowbray still be manager on 1/2/22 ? If no, date of departure.

3. Rovers Player of the Season 21/22 ?

4. Where will Rovers finish the season ?

5. Who will be championship winners ?

Reply to this with your predictions & we’ll assess the consensus…👍🏻

1. Well, I think he will probably go if Tony goes, but I can also see him trying to cling on for the dosh. So it's a tough one, but on balance I'll go with no.

2. No. This season is going to go terribly, and I think even Venkys will have had enough, or the live crowds may even force him out. I'm expecting he will be gone around Christmas time. If we have to give an exact date I'll say 30/12/21, and that will be much later than it should be (obviously it should be last season but I mean that even his current fans will want him gone before then). If they stick with him all season, we will be relegated, and though they might think 'he got us back up before', I think it will signal too much regression and they won't renew his deal. Not sure why you picked 2nd Feb though for Tony but July for SW? Are those your departure predictions?

3. Sam Gallagher 🤣 I don't particularly believe it, but still, with Arma going, BB probably going if he doesn't sign a new deal (spose we might hang on til the summer and go the compo route cos of his age though), I can see him actually getting game time in the middle. Where I think he can be reasonably effective, and the contrast to his previous performances could then earn him disproportionate praise. If BB stays all season I actually think he will win it, whereas I'm just saying Gally as a wild card really! Kaminski also likely to be a contender again, but his performances will look less impressive this time since we didn't just spend a season watching Walton.

4. This will depend largely on number 2. If we keep TM, relegation. If we twist early enough, possibly somewhere in the 12th to 21st region. If you're pushing me to pick where I think we will finish rather than 'if this', then...21st. Mostly since I think Tony will go at some point but the new manager won't have funds to work with. I always reassess all this after our transfer business though. I will (reluctantly) admit that I've taken advantage of some free bets to back us for the drop though. The odds are far more generous than they should be, we are in trouble.

5. Don't really care but let's say Fulham.

1. Will leave in the summer of 2022 if Mowbray goes

2. Yes.  Will be here until his contract runs out.

3. Kaminski - he'll be the one with most to do during the season.

4. 4th from bottom would be great but I fear it will be below that unless some serious signings are made.

5. One of the three who were relegated last season.

1. Will Steve Waggott still be at Rovers on 1/7/22 ? If no, date of departure.

Sadly yes I think he probably will. He'll have a load of excuses already lined up for dwindling crowds and lack of funds etc. You do have to wonder how long people can keep waving the covid card as an excuse though.

2. Will Tony Mowbray still be manager on 1/2/22 ? If no, date of departure.

No, I think he's gonna end up walking. I encourage every single supporter who is still attending to let their feelings known. Now although Ewood won't be a cauldron of hate there's still enough people in the Blackburn End to get a point over to him. No more hiding in the dugout sulking Tony I'm afraid. Of course the loons from Pune will have no idea and I've given up on the idea of him actually being sacked so it's the only hope.

3. Rovers Player of the Season 21/22 ?

Brereton but Kaminski is gonna be bloody busy so he's bound to be a contender.

4. Where will Rovers finish the season ?

So much is going to depend on injuries and we'll need a LOT of luck on that front. Obviously the Armstrong factor is a rather large one too. I do think there's some pretty poor teams though, particularly the promoted ones and Derby are in trouble.  I'll go for 18th and another dismal season.

5. Who will be championship winners ?

Between Fulham and WBA, I don't think Sheff Utd will be great and don't think any of the other teams will even come close.

Beat me to it @Herbie6590😄

1. Will Steve Waggott still be at Rovers on 1/7/22 ? If no, date of departure.

Wasn't he retiring last season? I think he'll see out this season, possible departure May 2022.

2. Will Tony Mowbray still be manager on 1/2/22 ? If no, date of departure.

Yes I think so, again, I think he'll see out this season. Will he sign a new contract? That's the million dollar question. As with most people, I think he's had more than enough time to implement his philosophies on the club. One more season hopefully won't send us down, but a change will likely be needed, for all parties, by May 2022.

3. Rovers Player of the Season 21/22 ?

Ben Brereton Diaz. Particularly if it goes to a public vote! But in all honesty, if he's going to progress upwards in his career and play at the highest level week in, week out, then a big 2021/22 is the season he needs. Hopefully we can piggy back on that and stay in this division.

4. Where will Rovers finish the season ?

Flipped and flopped so many times over the past few months, admittedly from desperation to apathy, rather than optimistic to hopeful. I'd say we manage to keep our heads just above water all season. 17th. Staying free from key injuries and the breakout of some youngsters imperative.

5. Who will be championship winners ?

AFC Bournemouth. Danjuma, Brooks, Mepham, Marcondes, Pearson, Stanlislas. Plus Parker as manager, with a budget to match? I think they'll start strong and endure. Interesting to see how the changes of manager at West Bromwich and Sheffield United impact their playing styles and squads. QPR a dark horse tip.

Waggott and Mowbray will be here at the end of the season with new contracts until 2024. We'll finish 20th, not bad seeing as our Player of the Season Ben Brereton Diaz will be sold for 6million in the January transfer window. The happy clappers will say it's a great deal for the club as, even though we paid more than that for him, he was crap most of the time under Mowbray.

Championship winners? Dunno. Will go for Boro in a bit of a surprise as they show us what a real manager can do for a club, over a decade after Venkys sacked our last real manager.
