I wouldn't mind us signing Gardner-Hickman on a cheap deal. He has been better than I expected him to be. A decent player in the middle who works well alongside Tronstad. I'm probably in the minority on this, but I like the player and think he is more effective than Travis.

Got good workrate and mobility, and will grow into a decent Championship player. Lacks a lot, can't pass for one, but we're pretty desperate so I'd sign him as well if it's cheap enough and his wages aren't too daft.

I'd pigeon-holed him as a carthorse, journeyman-type we'd all forget about in a few years time, but he's actually surprised me with some little bits of skill here and there.

He's a big downgrade on Travis for me. But I agree. I'd sign him on a cheap deal. He gets through a lot of work off the ball and can hold his own. He's one of the worst passing central midfielders I've seen in a while though.

Water carrier types are needed in this division, Travis for example, especially when your core strength as a team is supposed to be work rate and intensity to make up for not being able to pay for flair.

So someone like him has a bit of potential in that respect and he seems to like being here and being involved.

Only makes sense if he's cheap though.

The criteria for signing  players SHOULD be "Are they good enough and/or will they make a difference"

Not "Id sign him but only if he's cheap enough".

Going nowhere in the long run signing players like him and (a few years ago) Hedges. Might just about keep you in the Division if you're lucky.

Another released Nixon story saying we will spend money the morning after we're the absolute laughing stock of country.

Who would have thought that?

To be honest, if what Chaddy has posted is what Nixon is claiming, then none of that would be a surprise.

The surprise would be if they were prepared to pay more than a few £100K for each of these younger players.  I expect more low priced foreign punts like Alebiosu & De Neve, which may or may not work out

Well timed propaganda. Well, of sorts.

Recalling O'Riordan alone would certainly not be a sufficient replacement for Hyam nor solve our defensive vulnerability.

They would presumably sign young players purely to further limit the wage budget as its not what we need.

Picks out to make room on the wages and bench for O'Riordan makes sense.

I like Pickering i know his limitations but there is no point him sitting there every week not being used and being over looked for crap like De Neve. At least C O'r will be used and add some desperately needed height.

Gueye i fear Rovers will end up paying someone to take him or paying him to go, hopefully take his pal Gestede with him.

Seems the priority for January is once again on cost cutting and reducing the wage bill further. That's all that really matters in the scheme of things here.

Loan out / sell experienced players and bring in untested youngsters, probably from significantly inferior leagues. I'm sure that'll help us climb the table.

Not that Gueye will be any loss, mind. Great personality but a terrible footballer.

Alebiosu was hardly a foreign punt given you came through the Arsenal academy

The 3 position was a centre back, Tronstad's replacement and a striker supposedly we are after in January

He has not said O'Riordan will be Hyam's replacement BTW.

Gueye isn't good enough. We need a better back up striker to Ohashi and Gudjohnsen.

He was a cheap buy from a foreign team, I was not stating that he was foreign

Do you think we will splash out on an experienced, proven defender as well as bringing O'Riordan back to directly replace the sorely missed Hyam?

If you think theres a chance of that then you havent been paying attention.

I agree with you 100% but they think the prospect of offloading even more players to trim the wage bill and replacing them with untested youngsters will get us excited?

Given how we play plus Carter's injury problems I think Rovers will go for 2. Bringing O'Riordan from loan being 1. Hopefully another one. Dont expect proven Championship experience signing unless low cost fee. Maybe someone from SPL or Overseas market aged around 25/26
