For those not happy with the switch, it is as easy to voice your displeasure to the LET as it is to gripe about it on here.

I already have mate, not that I have anything against the new man, apart from the fact that the position did not appear to be advertised and young Jason is prob somebodies mate (Andy Neilds poss?.....similar age, similar neck of the woods).

From what I remember of last seasons column Rev's only crime was to criticise the club publically just as last years 'hearts and minds' campaign to attract more fans was initiated.  Not the best timing and from what I can gather a pressured John Williams went absolutely apeshit with the editor.  You dont need to be Einstein to work out how much the LET needs to foster good relations with the Rovers (its about the only reason that I have it delivered), so it seems Rev was the sacrificial lamb.

It's not for me to reveal details but I can assure you that Rev's lifestyle will not suffer as a result of his drop in income.  He may choose to inform you himself or otherwise but I suggest that few members would be gobsmacked at the starting salary package.  I rem Phil Lloyd (sorry Rev but imo the best yet.....but not by much) packing it in cos of other commitments but I would'nt be surprised if he felt that that he was being 'used' by the LET.

When I found out how much writing the column was worth I rem early last season in the Woodlands suggesting to Rev that 'just for the craic' he should let me 'do' the column for one week just to see if anybody noticed    :p.  I then suggested that if that was'nt rumbled that he should approach one or two of the better quality, evenly balanced and more cerebrally gifted mboard regulars of sound sensibility and judgement** to do the same, albeit with Rev as editor-in-chief!  Anyway imo it would have been great fun and would have served the LET right!  Needless to say I'd have done it like a shot in his position

Credit to RB's character that he would'nt contemplate that particular jape but I bet he wishes he bloody well had done now!

**S'funny but all those 'Top Gun' members that I suggested to Rev at the time turned out 6 months later to be 'Droggies'!  So quite obviously nothing flawed with my judgement of fellow messageboard posters is there? ???

Jason Whalley has written 2 columns so far, I'd give him time to settle before its fair to criticise him.   Revidge didnt always get it right, and perhaps the sports teams are editing his columns like they did with Simons.   That said they are a bit bland at the moment, and he has a lot to live up to.

As for how he lost the column - Revidge must have upset the sports team somehow.

Perhaps he told Andy Neild that you don't need a work visa to report on the Washington DC game.   :)

I think TND is right, Simon touched a nerve at the wrong time, I remember being quite angry at him too at the time.  Credit to him for saying it like he saw it.

A path we've been down many times and best laid to rest.

It causes too much disagreement.

Sorry to hear your news Rev.Didn't always agree with you, but always enjoyed your writings in the LET.

Glad you appeared to show some judgement in regards to other external influences as well. :<img src=:'>

Rev, sorry you have lost your column. Thought it was always well written and interesting and that you always got the better of the dingle.

Sadly, much of what you posted on here this summer and the comments you made on local radio were total ******* or something similar.

The new guy has made a very inauspicious start and I would be delighted to see you back at the typewriter (I assume no ENG at t'Telegraph.  :<img src=:'> )

..From what I can gather a pressured John Williams went absolutely apeshit with the editor.

Could this possibly indicate a different side to Mr Williams' character to the one which has hitherto been praised to the rafters by other board members?

Is it possible that our smooth talking moustachioed Chief Executive has a "friendly face" in public - (The good-natured garrulous fellow that Den encountered when he was invited into his office for tea and biscuits and a cosy chat for an hour and a half) - But this amiable side to his character can be offset by irascible short-tempered outbursts, as Thenodrog has alluded to.

It seems to me that the criticisms Revidge had were perfectly legitimate viewpoints that he held about the club.

For Mr Williams to allegedly "Go apes*it with the LET editor" indicates an unhealthy sensitivity to criticism on his part.

I imagine it's entirely possible that our esteemed Mr Williams has a hard side too.  He didn't get where he is today by purring at everyone!

That said, it doesn't mean Revidge shouldn't have posted what he thought, rather than what he thought the club might want to hear as that isn't what objective journalism is all about as far as I'm aware.  Not much point having a column if you're not allowed to express opinions in it.  The editor of such a newspaper should be able to take the flack for such articles upsetting people as well - that's why s/he's editor presumably.  Typical local newspaper politics as far as I can see.

Whalley described Andy Cole as "The real Slim Sulky", before making a bit of a Coleman balls, when he wrote: "You can only beat what's in front of you and beat them well."

There used to be a bloke called Melvyn who liked to beat what was in front of him in Corporation Park but he got sent away to what we used to call the 'looney bin'. Probably back on the streets as Care in the Community now.

As for the Jason Whalley fellow- give him a chance, he has only done a couple of articles.

Rev- I enjoyed your thoughts and well-aimed attacks on the Dingles.

Possibly, I can think of a couple of other alternatives.

a) Transported to Australia

B) posting on here as Samuel Dingle :)

Not much point in cummings articles, surely it would be more relevant to Burnley fans if you gave them something to colour in.

Only just picked up on this thread myself and find Rev's departure a disgrace. I disagree with a number of his views but that’s what his column was all about. Burnley baiting was a joy to read, only hope the new guy takes no s**t of scummings.

Having read the new lads first 2 pieces I feel he's got along way to go to bring his column up to Revs standard but he'll get better I’m sure.

After some of the 'goalpost' altering last season Rev, you're better of without it  ???

The boy Cummings is a literary goliath

He has to be hasn't he.... lets face it, he doesn't have a football team to write about each week does he ! he might as well report on whats on the telly... more interesting than another Dingle defeat  :D

The best way to deal with the sad individual , SCummings , is to ignore him , and ignore his team . That's the way Phil Lloyd dealt with him and it's the best policy . With a short column to fill , why waste space on a dingle ? We're top of the Prem , they're moving ever closer to Accy . Nuff said........

The boy Cummings is a literary goliath in comparison to the dismal Revidge and the dimwitted monkey who's replaced him.

I dare say you've got the column you deserve.

Let that Theononondrog bloke write it instead... I might even read it then.

Well thanks for the compliment Samuel but the content of your post confirms that you must have been reading it anyway!  :withstupid:

Anyway when are you and the rest of your dingle mates gonna pluck up the courage to come out of the closet and fill up the Darwen End?  We know, you know and the world and his wife knows that you all really want to.    :rover:

Not taking the LET regularly I didn't see many of Rev's columns but always enjoyed the ones I did catch...and if the Man city bit from Jason is a taster for the future
