  1. Being a Rovers fan should absolutely come with a health warning. From the despair of Wednesday to the euphoria of today. And I'm delighted to eat a huge slice of humble pie after decrying the five at the back in the days before today. And if I read the game plan correctly it worked really well. We defended our own box pretty much for the entirety of the first half and allowed Leeds plenty of the ball and really the only threat I thought was from set pieces. I overheard some Leeds fans across from the ground talking disparagingly about our defeat on Wednesday and it occurred to me that they thought today was a foregone conclusion. An early goal they said and Blackburn would crumble. As we approached half time I noticed some murmuring from the Leeds fans and a nervousness. We played our three strikers further up in the second half and Eustace did a number tactically on Farke. The Leeds players looked slightly confused when we did this as they couldn't get forward as much. The goal was incredible not from a quality point of view (it was a really good goal though) but from the press and quick forward play. Could we hang on? The clock seemed to be going backwards most of the last twenty minutes but we got over the line, we did it against all odds and the relief was palpable. I particularly liked the time consuming by us today which really added to Leeds frustrations. I actually predicated that Pears would get booked after the 85th minute for time wasting but by then the horse had bolted. We aren't completely safe yet but I feel hugely more comfortable than I did on the drive home from Bristol and the following couple of days. My granddaughter and a friend who came with us actually both predicted a win. I was worried about their sanity when they said that but now after the last few days I'm questioning my own 😃😃

  3. On another point. - inspite of the press rumours linking him with Celtic, Luton, Brentford etc Sammi has never slacked off for a minute. He’s always given 110%. Not like another recent striker we had when his head was turned.

  4. Thrilled and delighted with today win. We defended as a team and everyone of those players played for the fans and Eustace. Our shape was very good. The defenders were excellent today and Hyam was back to his good self. Carter did excellent after his booking in the first half. Brittain and Pickering did excellent against their wingers/full backs We had the best 2 chances today and Leeds ended up diving and trying to win a penalty which none were. Eustace got his tactics spot on. Excellent finish by Szmodics by great play by Dolan after Gallagher wins the header. I think I never shouted so much after that when in. The Rovers fans at Elland Road were loud and proud. Delighted for the fans, the players and Eustace. Great 3 points. Rovers till I die 🔵⚪ Eustace's Blue and White Army 🔵⚪

  5. Without doubt, better to have tasted the riches. For me personally Venkys changed the way I saw Rovers. It shouldn’t have done, but it did. Things they can never do though. They can’t take away those memories of Ronnie Clayton running out of the tunnel with the ball under his arm. They won’t ever take away the memories of the class of Bryan Douglas. Nor can they take away Jack Walker taking on the biggest and best clubs in the country and beating them. That was some team at Man Utd at that time, but for a short time, we were better. When I get totally pissed off with the turmoils that we are currently going through, I’ll console myself with those memories. Even if the club went to the wall, Venkys and this crew could never take that away. Cherish the club as you best remember it.

  6. I thought we were excellent today in terms of the game plan. The Championship is an insane League - after Wednesday night's debacle we get this tremendous display. Although I've always felt we would survive, I must admit to breathing easier tonight. Not totally out of the woods but a good way there now I think. I really do believe that Eustace will turn out to be a very good manager for this club in the long run. There's a touch of Mowbray about him but also reminds me of Bob Saxton - gets a good response from players and just gets everyone working for each other.

  7. Who’d be a football manager? Pulls out an amazing result just when we needed it and gets begrudging praise from some and not even that from others. He might not be a legend but to get that sort of reaction from the team, particularly the defence, after what happened on Wednesday means he must have something about him, because that set of players have rarely shown cajones like that when we have really needed them to, regardless of who the manager has been.

  8. Can see the logic in limiting the away following, but can't you just see Szmods scoring at that end and telling them all to calm down.

  9. Worth noting that without the thrashing at Bristol, we wouldn't have won today.

  10. End of the day Rovers have proven that they are only interested in taking the easy route to get where they want to be. Its easy handing over the Darwen End to Sheff Wed, Leeds, Preston. Just agree, print off the tickets and watch the cash flow in. No real effort required. It is justified on the basis that we have the space to do it and we need more people in because home attendances are low. So what about increasing home numbers? Sadly for us this is where it falls down. This is where effort is needed, because you have to make serious, sustained efforts to engage and attract new people and get them coming on a regular basis. It takes a plan, it takes effort, it takes imagination. All lacking at the good ship Ewood, rinse and repeat same old dreary approach each and every year. Other than changes to prices (almost all increasing) what is different about matchday or ticketing now compared to 10 years ago? Nothing. Nothing changes, no imagination, no planning. No singing area, no cheaper area, no safe standing area, no 'ultras' or flag waving area. No sir, not a jot of interest in any of that as it requires EFFORT. Emulating Huddersfield, PNE, Bolton and implementing serious price reductions with a view to adding thousands to the gates and engaging new, younger supporters? No, can't do. Too much risk, FFP, wouldn't work here (no evidence). This is where the gripe with me lies. Quite happy to take the easy option to grab the low hanging fruit and cash in on away numbers, no willingness to make any effort to fill up Ewood and maybe one day not have 20,000 empty seats sat doing nothing, or maybe not be under pressure to take the away coin every time.

  11. You asked the question. The original initiative was from We Are The Rovers the Supporters Trust; it is clearly within our remit and aims to build and rebuild lost support. We approached the Club who were supportive. We were actively supported by formal supporters organisations such as Proud Rovers, the South Asian Supporters. We also had the backing of a number of people from this messageboard including Ian Herbert who did some excellent work and his input cannot be underestimated. It was, to reiterate, an award for a specific We Are The Rovers initiative involving other groups and a lot of decent folk from brfcs.com I am proud of the award and hopefully it puts WATR in an even stronger position to influence the Club. Thank you to everyone on this board, particularly Ian Herbert, 4000 Holes and Roverschat. If I have missed anyone out I am happy to be chastised.

  14. The players had thrown JDT under the bus The reality is that none of them are fit to lace his boots. It speaks volumes of our "senior council" that they were prepared to be so blatantly lacklustre under him. Was it Callum Brittain who had a veiled dig after the Stoke game? JDT had only just left and he was ready to start the blame game There are a number of players I'd be looking to move on if I were Eustace. I'd start with Callum Brittain and Dom Hyam who, in my view, have been quite stand out in their poor attitudes We have lost too many big characters in recent years. What we have replaced them with are either young lads, or are just not comparable. Losing Kaminski, Ayala and Dack in one window is tragic

  15. Saw this live - lad has just won EFL Young Player of the Year. JRC took him to school yesterday - he's a fantastic player, just a shame he can't stay fit.

  16. I thought we were brilliant today. The tactics Eustace employed were the only tactics that could have won us that game. Well done to him and well done to every single player. They carried it off to a tee. I’d have given them all 10/10. We should be fine now. I wouldn’t expect that kind of performance too often though. The sheer determination, workrate and mental toughness can’t be replicated every game, it’s just too much to ask of our small group of players. Today though, superb.

  17. To be fair to Leeds they did a good deed today. They went into Leeds city centre, found 2 down and outs bin dipping and gave them an afternoon out at the football. They didn't have time to arrange a shave and clean up but its the thought that counts.
    10 points
  18. Precisely. They want to be able to play their strongest teams in every match and yet they have ridiculously massive squads (to the detriment of all the other clubs) Then the same said squad size allows them to change half a team if a match isn’t going their way. At this point, I really wish they would all fuck off to their so called super league.

  20. I don't get the people bemoaning them getting a 7k allocation. Yes Waggott is a cock regardless but a full Darwen end hasn't done too much harm this season, Newcastle arguably our best home performance? A full Elland Road didn't seem to give them much of an edge at weekend either. Just seems like another reason to moan.

  21. I seem to remember you didn’t rate him when he came into Rovers side in the Championship. Well, here he is playing every game for Palace and impressing almost everyone, central midfield, in the PL, at the age of 20. Not many do that Eddie.

  22. Get all that Mike, but reading the EFL press release that reads as if it was a pure club initiative (which to be fair isn’t the club’s fault), when in reality if left to the club there would’ve been no initiative at all.

  23. Wharton put his hand up to play in a vital game when he was suffering with back trouble. It would have been the easiest thing in the world to say “ Sorry boss, I can’t make it today, my back’s still not 100% right “ . But he didn’t .

  24. Nice gesture from Alan Shearer. 30 goals in a season is some achievement for super Sammy particularly after Adam Wharton was sold to Palace for £18 million. And this in a team fighting against relegation NOT for promotion!!

  25. The Sky commentators were very clear that they thought that they weren’t penalties. And in truth there was no outrage from either Leeds players or fans.

  27. I’m envious of all the other clubs that are being run by sentient human beings that actually give a fuck. Clubs that are being run with a plan that lasts longer than the next 24 hours. I’m also envious of all the other clubs that have owners who actually turn up to games and face the music if necessary . I look at the like of Bolton, Pompey, Derby who have hit the depths and are coming back up again and I’m envious because with proper ownership Rovers could be on the way back as well. I just hope I live long enough to see the cancer that is slowly killing Blackburn Rovers removed entirely.

  28. I still have some adrenalin running through me this morning after yesterday and pretty much everything has been written about the great win but yesterday the Rovers fans were terrific. I saw lots of Rovers fans at Leeds who I had seen only two days before at Bristol but still they turn up such is their devotion. Apart from Marching on Together pre match I hardly heard the Leeds supporters and Eustace and the players deserve credit for that but Rovers fans were at it for the duration. Even the M62 being a car park and having to come home on the back roads couldn't spoil our day 😂😂.

  29. Just watched the goal again, that pass from Dolan was exquisite, pinpoint accuracy and pace, just superb.

  30. I think some of the flak has been completely OTT and disproportionate. Without doubt, the fact that he’s not JDT (I think some have a shrine in their spare bedroom, complete with life size manikin), and that Waggott (reportedly) recruited him have influenced thinking. If we’d been hopeless it would be justified, but on the whole he’s steadied the ship and we’ve been competitive in most games. The one criticism is his win percentage, but even that is on an upward trajectory of late. People talk about him not having the baggage that JDT did, but he’s had to come in and work with what was already here. IF he keeps us up, he’s achieved his goal, and then we all wait and see what happens in the Summer.

  35. Simple explanation for it is that all other clubs have one eye on factors other than immediate cash flow. Factors such as positive atompshere, growth, medium to long term consequences of decisions, footballing concerns. Here we have a charlatan masquerading as CEO employed to take the focus off the owners and cut their expenditure. With that remit he will do whatever he needs to do to keep his figures looking well, and as we've seen with some of his 'policies' to date there's nothing off the table in pursuit of that. Last I heard one was renting out Ewood for Liverpool and Man Utd legend events, a clear sign to anyone just what sort of people we are dealing with here.

  36. Adam Wharton, perhaps the brightest of the hugely promising generation brought through by Tony Mowbray at Blackburn. Not sure how much praise Mowbray deserves for this one.

  37. And we loved it 😇. The boot has been on the other foot plenty of times so I understand the anger of the Leeds fans but as for sympathy? No chance.

  38. We've lost 4 in 14,that's far from shocking during a relegation battle, given the hand he was dealt. Barring the Bristol debacle, since he came we've conceded an average of less than one per game. To turn Rovers defence into such a tight unit, in such a short time, whilst fighting relegation I reckon shows a fair bit of coaching acumen. Before these last 6 games, many were asking where our next point was coming from, we're now looking like we're going to stay up. He definitely deserves to start next season with a clean slate, he's earned it.
