  1. We are where we are because the players that we have are not good enough.  The other teams in the relegation scrap (Forest, Bristol and Burton) have got the big results at home when they really needed it.  I fully expect Birmingham to follow suit on Saturday (they must have some quality as they were top 6 contenders before they bought in Zola).  Even after such a poor season we had the chance to get out of trouble in recent weeks but yielded just 2 points from home games against Preston, Barnsley and Bristol.

I would be delighted if somehow we can pick up points but have no expectation that we will.

  2. Of course every manager is judged by results and that is what ultimately we will judge Tony Mowbray.   Have to say though after hearing the claptrap that Owen Coyle has come out with from day one it is refreshing to hear Mowbray.  I liked what I heard and now it fingers crossed that he can get some results.

Coyle should have been sacked weeks ago but it is yet another failing of those running the club and now it leaves Mowbray in a position where he is very little room for error.  I think 6 wins will be enough to keep us up.

  3. Yes I think Wigan will stay up.

We are into February and have won just 6 games out of 27.  From our remaining 57 points we will need to get 25-28 points to finish out of the bottom 3.  Statistically looking at Coyle's last 4 jobs (including Rovers) he has not shown that kind of form in any of them.  So on that basis alone we will go down.  Other teams are showing that even with poor squads they are able to perform because they have a good manager in place.

  4. Wigan might have gained an advantage over the other teams in relegation scrap with the signings that they made yesterday if they can bed them all in, they signed Grimsby striker Omar Bogle, Rangers goalkeeper Matt Gilks, Eastleigh striker Mikael Mandron, Hartlepool midfielder Josh Laurent and former Rover Jack Byrne.  They also got Gabriel Obertan on a free transfer and tied up loan deals for Alex Bruce and James Weir.

As you say Matty we have won just 6 games out of 27 and not shown any signs of going on a winning streak with the current failure of a manager.  I think we will soon get cut off with Rotherham.  A change in management might give us a chance but have I have very little faith in these idiots making the right appointment even if Coyle was sacked.

  5. Huge respect to Amir for taking on this challenge, I didn't think that he had in him. He actually took a paycut to have a shot at greatness, he could have made much more money with less challenging fights. I though that he gave a very good account of himself and was ahead, but I always felt that as the fight went on Canelo would cut down the ring and then hit him with a big shot and that was a hell of a shot. I am just thankful that he didn't get seriously hurt.

I always thought that Amir was a bit of a P****K all based on stuff that I had read and heard, but last year I was involved in a project called "Mother Tongue, Other Tongue" we asked for Amir's help and he was fantastic, he did way more than we could have expected and he was genuinely very nice guy, however the people around him, well the less said about them the better.

  6. Odd question, but how is Nintendo doing over there in Europe?

Here in South Africa it's non existent anymore. Bit of a shame really, but the pricing on the Wii U currently is about 1k less than the next gen consoles. Bit madness that, and no wonder it's gone downhill.

It is much the same here in UK/Europe. The Wii U is dead in the water, it never took off and now with virtually no third party support the system is finished.

In my opinion Nintendo have to get the NX out this year and it has to be a powerful machine and not an extension of the Wii U. If they do that and get the third party support then they have a 2 year window to establish it before the next generation of Sony and Microsoft machine are out.

  7. Going of those stats we should get circa 60 points, but the major difference is that we have lost Rudy's 20 goals and not adequately replaced them so that is going to effect the equation.

So to compensate we have to become better defensively (not seen evidence of that) or we get Rhodes to score 30 odd goals and we get 10 additional goals from likes of Delfounso/Koita.

  8. I would agree about bringing back Ballance and put him in at 5 where he seems to be more comfortable.

We struggled against the spin of Lyon which does not bode well for having to face Pakistan's spin duo of Ajmal and leg spinner Yasir Shah on spinner friendly surfaces.

  9. Got the new Batman game, only played an hour or so and it certainly lives upto the hype. It also does not hold your hand and throws you straight in at the deep end. he only slight weak bit of the first hour or so is the batmobile sections, not as awesome as I thought that they would be and control scheme for the batmobile could have been much better but other than that it is all good.

  10. I normally hate games like the Witcher but after reading the reviews I bought it a couple of weeks ago and have to say that I love it. I close to 100 hours and still not finished the main story never mind the hundreds of side quests. I love the world and the story telling which takes things to a complete new level. The levelling up system is also excellent. For me it is hands down the game of the year and possibly the game of the decade.

  11. Isn't KP going to IPL very shortly to for his team?

I think after this current Surrey game.

If he is then he didn't get out of playing in the IPL just delay playing in the competition

I wouldnt say KP is the best English cricketer.

Actually I would say Jimmy Anderson is. Been one of the best English bowler and top English Wicket taker.

I am sorry Chris, do not agree with this.

You cannot compare KP to Jimmy, one is a bowler and the other is a batsman. Jimmy has without doubt been our standout bowler over the last 10 years, but equally KP and Cook have been our standout batsmen. KP has over 8000 test runs and an average of 47, which is fantastic in anyone book. He has won so many games for England over the last 10 years with his attacking style and is regarded worldwide as one of the best of this generation.

As for the IPL he has lost out on a heck of a lot of money. He will only be joining the Sunrisers for about 10 days to take part in the playoff and will not receive anywhere near the money that he would have done if he had played for the entire 6 weeks of the tournament. His appearances for Surrey were for free. Even the huge KP critics in the media have acknowledged that he has been treated in a very poor manner and he has every right to be angry.

I also cannot understand Strauss's reasoning how can he on one hand say that there are trust issues but then offer him an advisory role with the one day side?

It all goes back to the original point, everyone had accepted that KP's England career was over until Graves opened his mouth, this whole subsequent mess could totally have been avoided if Graves had kept his gob shut.

  12. The blame for the current situation has to be put at the door of new chairman Colin Graves, most people had accepted that KP wouldn’t play for England again until Graves for whatever reason decided to say that the slate was clean and that he would be considered if he scored runs at the County Level.

I feel for KP in that he has been completely mislead by Graves, he has given him false hope and that has led to this situation completely blowing up once again. It is a huge shame that he won’t play for England again

  13. I think this is the end of the road for Moores as coach and possibly Cook as captain as well.

It was a stupid decision not to give Lyth a chance and what is the point of taking Rashid and then not to play him on a pitch that offer so much assistance to spinners?

Ali did well last summer and looked a genuine front line spinner, he didn't give runs away and took wickets. However over last games he has lost his confidence, too many long hops and not building the pressure on the batsmen.

  14. Good night of boxing.

First of all Broner is a classless idiot, his end of fight was ridiculous

Amir - for the first time ever I have seen him fight properly for 12 rounds, He kept his hands high and then used is superior speed to totally dominate Callazo. What was most impressive was that he came in did his work and then moved out to get out of trouble, I thought that he would tire in the last 4 rounds but his conditioning was superb. That said Callazo was desperately poor, slow and only had one tactic which was to try and catch Amir with one big shot.

Thought that the Mayweather v Maidana fans was great. I had Floyd by 3 to 4 rounds mainly because Maidana threw so many punches but during the second half of the fight landed with relatively little and Mayweather landed a lot of shots on the counter attack. Look forward to the inevitable rematch.

  15. Well done to the Australians.

This one hurts me more than the 2006 whitewash, this aussie side is no where as good as the 2006 side. But they way we have capitulated has been alarming, at times we have played like a pub cricket team. No way did anyone see this coming, I thought that it would be a close series with it being decided by the odd test or so. What has gone wrong? The buck stops with Cook and Flower, they need to look at this horror show and start the rebuilding process. One bad series shouldn't mean that we dispense with Cook/Flower, but they must not allow this to happen again.

  16. Seems to me that our batsthey men don't have the patience to build their innings, getting good starts and then not converting them into big scores. To be fair, in this test the majority of the wickets were due to good bowling rather than poor shot selection.

  17. Swann is backtracking big time on the comments he made, he deffo wasn't referring to Vaughen and Pringle when he said ""Some people playing the game at the minute have no idea how far up their own backsides they are,"

Now it could be players from another team but to me when I read that comment I immediately thought that he was talking about KP.

  18. Kamy, I don't have a link to Abbeys post, as it come up looking like a "banned" word.

I do assume that you meant "wasn't aimed", and if so, I apologise for being so forthright.

As I've been the target of some "sledging" over this matter you might realise I've become a little sensitive, and was somewhat surprised with your comments.

    Anyway, apologies.

ps but I do reserve the right to have big shots at those that have a go at me.

    Thanks Dave.
