Toon Fancy Wharton?

Newcastle United will make a second bid to sign Blackburn Rovers midfield wizard Adam Wharton in the next window.

Top Toon spy Steve Nickson watched Wharton in action last week and hopes to persuade him that he would be part of their first team plans quickly. Wharton was courted by Newcastle in the summer but was not keen because they initially planned to put him in their European under-21 squad.

Newcastle may have a gap for Wharton in their squad for the first team in Europe in January but will have to convince him that there is game time in the table.

Crystal Palace, Brighton and Everton all fancy Wharton and are expected to make a serious attempt for him in the New Year. Palace have been in contact before and need more bodies as their squad looks thin despite good results.

Seagulls have also been forced to promote young players faster than expected while Everton are long term fans. Wolves missed out on Wharton but seem to have moved on.

Blackburn could cash in on Wharton in January if they are not close to the promotion race. Owners Venkys have been unable to sell players for some time.
