joey_big_nose
On the other hand it is hard to see how capping salaries would be defensible. Why should they have their salaries limited when no one else does? And how is being a footballer any different from being any other skilled artist- some musicians, film stars and writers make buckets full of cash. Presumably out of fairness we would have to cap their salaries too. Indeed to make the system water tight you would have to cap everybody's salaries. That would be no less than tragic economically, mass capital flight, brain drain and curtailment in investment. Also there is the practicle question of players just moving abroad, and free market legislation. Arguably if Hill hadn't scrapped the wage limit all the players would of just buggered off to Spain or Italy. And also what would they do with all the money they saved? Give it back to the supporters? Hmm, cant see it happening. Personally I think that they do earn too much cash and are feckless with it but rather than regulating them (which is an unfair and unworkable intrusion of the state) fans should simply refuse to be held to ransom. If demand falls as the price rises then prices should fall again.

You have obviously not realised that there is one major sport in Britain where a wage cap for players exists and does not seem to cause any problems at all. That is Rugby League. As for the rest, as you rightly point out it is up to each individual to choose at which point his craving for the game is insufficient to overcome his feelings of being exploited and taken for a mug by the grossly overpaid and underworked players. Which is precisely the process that began as a landslide in the early 60's and has kept on going at a reduced rate ever since. The salary cap is based on club revenues, so you would end up with different caps on each club. Fine within Rugby as even the Bradfords and Leeds of the world don't generate that much more than the Londons and Warringtons, but in football, there would be massive differences between the likes of Fulham and Real Madrid. And of course, our good friends in Brussells would also want a word.

roversmum
And all the commentators who spend matches they are supposed to be commentating on gossiping about anything except the match and then suddenly realise a goal is being scored/ someone sent off/it's half time etc......... So there is some kind of choice there.

James No. 7
How about Phillip Cornhole @ Football365? See his recent article ? waster ! 360089[/snapback] This article, you mean? I concur! Mark Hughes, meanwhile, whose Blackburn side I wanted to see relegated on aesthetic grounds, is winning ugly, out at 66-1 from 20-1 in the summer. That sums it up. He has some sort of crusade against us and has been so since I have been visiting the site since last season. Even now he will not even admit that we are winning nicely. Obviously he did not pick up on the commentators who said we were a real pleasure to watch against Charlton with our fantastic passing game. We were so full of confidence and running rings right around Charlton, making them look very poor. Edited November 12, 2005 by James No.
