  1. 1. Would you have signed Dunn?

    • Absolutely no way. The guy simply isn't fit enough for Premiership football

    • It's a big gamble, so probably not.

    • Sitting on the fence here.

    • Yes, even if he can't regain full fitness, the presence of a true roverite will lift everyone around the club.

    • Brilliant signing, he should never have left.

Question well avoided....

Enjoy gloating when he puts in a bad performance, it will happen of course.

No i wont gloat, i'll say it again i want Dunny to do well but i can't read dolly day dreamer posters marvelling at how wonderful somebody is when i dont agree with them its very misleading to accept.

All i can say is keep up the good work Dunny.

I may as well put in my two penny worth.

At this moment, IMO, Dunny is miles off an England place. However, he is slowly becoming (no doubt with help from the excellent coaches we now have at Rovers) the complete midfield player that Souness always said he should be. The most impressive things about his game recently has been his hard work and tidy passing - not attempting something flash every 5 minutes. He also seems to be more defensively aware - as has been demonstrated by him playing just in front of the back four when he plays along side Savage. IF he can get back that little burst of pace and dribbling ability that made him such an eye catching talent when he first burst on the scene - who knows he may force his way back in the England squad.

For those that say his true test will be against Chelsea - does nobody remember a certain FA Cup semi final - when Rovers fans started to dream that that old Dunny may be on his way back (so good was his performance on the day) :rover:

It is all an academic conversation because of Duff's wages- when he moved to Newcastle, he went from £75K a week to £55K a week at a time Liverpool were only paying £40K max (except for Gerrard).

Out of interest, where does this information come from?

I've not looked it up but

- when Duff moved to Chelsea it was widely reported the contract was for £75k per week.

- similarly when he moved to Newcastle it was widely reported the new contract there was worth £55kper week

- when Bellamy moved from Rovers to Liverpool, again there was a lot of reports he had been offered £60K to stay at Ewood and had taken £40k at Anfield. I must admit it had not ocurred to me that Liverpool's major signing that summer would not be on top rung except for Gerrard but it does make sense that Liverpool should pay loyalty bonuses within their structure so other long serving internationals get significantly more to retain their services. Having said that, it re-enforces what I suggested that Liverpool probably offered Duff as a new boy the same as Bellamy: £40K per week.

Obviously this summer, the Liverpool wage structure will have changed considerably as have several other clubs'. Hence John Williams' comments yesterday about wages going up in a new spiral. In this, I have to say that West Ham are the major culprits and the way the Eggman came out saying West Ham have tried to sign British talent only re-enforced the points John Williams was making.

We're starting to get a nucleus of young(ish) players together.

I can't see that signing Duff will help much. When was the last time he actually played a game? I haven't mention of him for ages now.

Can't see Hughes being interested at all.

Kudos to Dunn, I was one of those who lost faith with him when he left Rovers, and who wasn't surprised to see him get injured so much at the Porn Kings. Not that he'd be losing any sleep over my opinion.

12 months on (near enough) - have Rovers had value for money for the £2 million spent on Dunn last January?

Would it have been better to wait until the summer and get him for nowt (given that he hardly played until this season in any case)?

Or should we have just let Big Fat Sam take him to Bolton and spent the 2 million quid somewhere else??

11 starts and 5 substitute appearances out of a possible 23 isn't "hardly played". Tris- we all know you have an agenda, but for £2m I'd say we've got our money's worth.

The fact that he's a Blackburn born and bred fan who is playing for the club he loves means so much more than whether he's worth the money we paid for him.

I know it's important to win matches and have a squad capable of challenging but sometimes football is not always about that. Personally seeing a fellow fan make the grade as a footballer playing for the team we both support is wonderful to see. Although i'll probably never know him, he still represents each and everyone of us and is living a dream we've all probably had at one point in our life. It's people like Dunny & Derbyshire who are the blood of the club. Similar to how Terry, Gerrard, Carragher, Cattermole are the blood of their clubs.

£2m for Dunn. Money well spent.

It's a good point though and rightly brought back up.

He was playing very well early season with Savage without being spectacular. Wasn't trying to go past players but playing some great forward passes as well as tidying up in a Tugay style roll. Lately he seems to have gone back to David Dunn mark 1.2 (mark 1.1 had some pace) and trying to do too much, taking on too many players and running into trouble.

I like him though as he does try and be creative. He lacks that athletic build that most prem league midfielders seem to have these days but with the right player alongside him I think he has more than enough talent to be an asset to us.

As for when we bought him, we didn't have much choice as Birmingham would have sold him to Bolton in Jan and for the sake of his career Dunn wasn't going to hang around at Big Club for any longer.

Verict: Yes, right decision

I think it has been money well spent and Dunn will be at the club for years to come. The main worry regarding him was due to concerns over fitness but they seem to have been largely overcome *touches wood*

It is true that recently he has tried to do too much himself regarding running at players but it would help if our players supported him a bit more closely. If you watch when he is on a run our lads back away from him as if he has leprosy whereas the opposition crowds him out. Soon the opposition crowd him out and the ball rolls free...where are our players to pick up the loose ball and take advantage of the situation? Usually nowhere to be seen so a promising bit of mayhem is lost. The likes of Gamst, Bentley, the strikers or Reid should be getting a bit nearer and pouncing on opportunities Dunn and his runs - although admittedly some runs are of the headless chicken variety but many aren't - to keep the pressure on.

I don't think he's up to scratch in a premiership team. Last night he did his usual trick of taking too many touches, running into trouble and generally played badly - as did a lot of the team.

Tugay comes on and immediately looks class. Don't get me wrong I don't think Tugay should be starting every game either, but Dunn couldn't do half the things Tugay can still do, if he tried all day.

Just because he's from Blackburn it doesn't mean he should play week in week out. I don't hink he's good enough. And to compare him to Gerrard and Carragher is laughable - they are world class players. Dunn isn't and never will be.

For me, we should be looking at bringing in a decent midfielder in January

Dunn's ability wasn't compared with Gerrard and Carragher because that would be stupid as they have pretty much done it all and although Dunn is a talented individual, he's not a world class player. The fact that they are local boys playing for their local clubs was the reason why I mentioned them in the same paragraph. It's important to have some kind of connection to the local community within the club whether it's players or behind the scene staff. Once a club loses it's link to the local community then that's the club on the road to it's death. Thankfully at Rovers we've got a couple of locals in the team, a great youth academy and the team is working with the community on a regular basis to maintain that link between us and them.

This is the problem I have with Dunn - he was a world class player, on the edge of breaking into the England team and then he threw his teddy out of the cot because Souness wanted to play him out of position - too much time spent down Jumping Jacks and ended up as a wasted talent.

I think the trouble I sometimes have with Dunn is that he tries to play the same way he used to play when he was a top player for us however with injuries and how the game has changed, it just isn't as effective. He needs to adapt his game and become more technical not just with his football skills but mentally as well.

Calm down Jimbo. Dunn was never a world class player. Your memory is playing tricks with you. Besides...world class players don't go to Birmingham City at the age of 23...the proper "big" clubs want them.

Sure he looked promising and had some good patches of form but let's not go overboard.

Maybe that is why some people are being disappointed...some are expecting the earth from him.

I suppose it depends on context. 2m compared to 2.5 for Benni or 3.5 for Rocky (or nothing for Samba and nelsen) and it seems questionable value. But 2m compaerd to the 2m Palace spent on Kuqi it seems a decent deal.

As others have pointed out he is too slow to drive through the midfied a la Reid despite some brilliant skills. Can't play on the wing for the same reason. His footwork does win him a lot of space however. Only real future for him I see is either in a 451 where he can get well forward without leaving us exposed or trying to sit deeper in a 442 (as he did in the paring with Savage) and spread the ball around. However while his passing is good you have to wonder whether it has the quality and nous to adequately replace Tugay in the long term. And if Sparky thinks so why were we scouting out Huddlestone?

Have been very impressed with his commitment and work ethic on the defensive side of the game. Utterly transformed.

For me he has been good enough for 2m and hopefully we will see more when we settle down in midfield a bit.
