You finished yet?

I could murder a curry :D

When my best mate moved to the States, we did investigate using the likes of DHL to send his favourite kebab and curry restaurant fare to his front door in New Jersey. It can be done.

I used to work closely with an airfreight provider who specialised in bringing in live Koi Carp from Japan - they were well up for kebab transport. Unfotunately the fish are worth around £500 each, and kebabs/ currys aren't - so it's probably cheaper to fly back to enjoy the curry in situ.

Let me know if you want a quote for an Anaz menu item though - delivered to either Haute Vienne or China :xmas:

Thanks for the offer, I already get Khyber curry delivered when flush!

and some times take a supply home when in Blackburn.

damned if I can cook them the same though, not far off, but not quite the same.

And Chinese curry just does not hit the mark, even the bread knife admits Indian (Bangladesh) curry is better,

And she is the best Chef I know.

Khyber is Pakistan fare isn't it? Anyway last time I asked the Bukhara proprieter told me that he himself was Indian but that he always employed Pakistani chefs cos they were the best by far at preparing meat dishes. Of course he could have been bullshitting I guess.... but it's mighty odd imo that we rarely see restuarants / takeaways advertised their fare by using the word 'Pakistani / Afghanistani / Bangladeshi' cuisine isn't it? It's nearly always generalised under the word 'Indian'. <_<

I thought the owner(now retired) who started it was from Pakistan, pretty sure the LET said that when they did the article in 2006 marking 40 years of trading.

Regarding the "Indian" description, probably a left over term from the Empire days,

We also call Chinese take aways'/restuarants' chinese when they are more than likely Cantonese.

Mind you, now that Hong Kong and its islands have gone back to China i suppose its more correct now.

Stayed at Northcote Manor when up for the Hull game, and ate there on the Thursday night to celebrate my nephew's O level results - fantastic food, but Jesus, what a price. Then on Friday ate out at Guide Village Cantonese - brilliant food - my missus absolutely loved it, reckons it's the best Chinese she's ever had.

Sadly disappointed by the pudding and chips at the Chippery in town (the chips were just wrong - pudding was fine tho') It was never the best chippy in town, but I don't remember it being that bad.

Sorry to hijack this thread but I will be paying a flying visit to UK this weekend to visit my mother who is in hospital. I have lost touch with restaurants etc in the area so can anyone recommend a good Indian or Italian in Accrington area that will be open at Sunday lunchtime? On my last visit I went to the Indian in between Great Harwood and Whitebirk (can't remember the name but the one on the top of the hill at the crossroads) anyone know if that is open Sunday lunchtime?

Cheers in advance.

No, but a couple of good reviews here.

On the subject of Italian restaurants in Manc, DON'T go to Gio's (there are two I think, the one I went to was near the Midland). I had a pizza and my (then) girlfriend had a pasta dish - it tasted no better than stuff you get from the supermarket and cook at home.

Cheers for the link, that's re-assuring.

I was considering giving Gio's a try so thanks for the warning, it looks quite nice from the outside.

By all means try it out - my visit was just disappointing.

By the way, if anybody uses Sugarvine to look up restaurant reviews, don't - I wrote a negative review on Gio's last night and they emailed me to say they weren't going to post it because it was negative. I wrote pretty much what was in my previous post in a polite way.

What is the point of having a restaurant review site only for good reviews to be posted?

The best reviews are with the High Life Diners club.

Thinking of going to Strada in Manchester this weekend, has anyone been there before?

Went to Strada in London last night (South Bank).

It's OK - would recommend sticking to pizza and pasta dishes though. I have a suspicion that my lamb and my colleague's salmon had arrived at the table via the microwave.

So OK for a work meal, but probably wouldn't take anyone I liked there unless there was nothing else to choose from - and Manchester has so much more to offer.

Agreed - did the same for a okay meal with bad service in Pappy Jacks (or whatever it's called) in Preston. The 'review' I wrote was quite balanced and fair without being overly negative in any aspect - but it wasn't in keeping with the tone of the site apparently.

As you say, makes the site pretty pants really - especially as it doesn't say it only posts positive reviews.

Hey, we could adopt that approach for this site, couldn't we? Guess there would only be two posts on obscure stuff then <_<

If you are ever in the Exmouth/Lympstone area, The Nutwell Lodge is supposed to be great. My fiancee has been there, and says it is every time we drive past.

Don't bother with Brown's at Coventry (if you happen to in Coventry of course). The food has got all average, and they play the music a bit too loud. There is a great place in the Bagington area near the airport, which serves fantastic food and beer. It's called the Bagington Arms I think. If it is an Indian you're after, Turmeric Gold is very good, and Ally's Balti in Earlsdon is a good if you're having a Saturday night out. Then you can either visit The Craven Arms, also in Earlsdon, or Whitefriers in the city centre for a good beer.

The one decent place there is in Bridlington is Saffron. It is one of the best Indian restaurants I've been to. A bit posh and expensive, but good god it is worth it.

Finally, there's anIndian somewhere in the suburbs of Auckland called Santos, which is a converted church. That was very nice, and didn't bat an eyelid when my uncle rang them and asked to book a table for about 25 people later that day.

Looks like the net is spreading on the recomended restaurants, so

had a long weekend in Lloret de Mar and Barcelona last weekend, I previously thought the El Relecaro chicken restaurant was the best in Lloret but now it has to be L'Enric, tried most of the menu between us and everything was spot on and the really good bit around 40 euro's for 4 with wine!

Also found an outlet selling El Coto red on offer, (I used to sell this wine for £18 a throw 10 years ago)

an absolutley superb wine for the money euro 5,24 it was going for, fill your boots, we certainly did

hic!
