Where Are They Now?

Recommended Posts

Does or did anyone know the fella from popular music group Blancmange, who supported Rovers-he listed Noel Brotherston as a hero in an interview on a copy of Smash Hits once. From Darwen I remember.

In the early 70's I went out with a lass, for about half an hour, who was seeing a guy at the time. Only half an hour because she was deliberating what to do. Me or him. He (Neil Arthur) won!

He went to Darwen Moorland, two years ahead of me I think.

It appear Keith Barker is appearign for Warwickshire CC very soon

Birmingham Post About half way down the article

The club have also made a contract offer to Keith Barker. The 21-year-old all-rounder, who scored a century on debut for the Second XI a month ago, has been offered a deal that would start immediately and keep him at Edgbaston until the end of 2010.

He was, until earlier this year, a professional footballer, and turned down a contract with Lancashire a few years ago in favour of a deal with Blackburn Rovers.

He played once for England U19 and joined Conference side Northwich Victoria in January. Sussex, Kent, Middlesex and Hampshire are also thought to be after him.

Looks like Garner is joining Forest as well, quite handy really because Rovers do still retain an interest in Garner with a sell on clause believed to be 20%.

The real problem with the development of players is the constant tampering with the laws of the game!

Firstly, we get now a starting eleven and now 7 substitute on the bench!! OK only three can play but that is 18 players out of the squad involved in the first team!

So, the consequence is, that Reserve team football then simply becomes an extension of the academy, players are not really moving up levels, years ago, a young lad would go into the reserve team and be playing against seasoned proffessionals, as a young player they would have the technique/ability and they would then apply it against bigger stronger

pro's who had the experience of first team football, so you bridge the gap between Academy/Youth football to the first team.

This doesnt happen now and the gap (due to the foreign imports) is getting wider.

Look at Rovers reserve team last year, made up basically of academy players, whats the point of that, not only at Rovers, but other clubs as well.

So we need to bridge the gap somehow and its not going to happen under the present system for a young player will not be given a run of games to adapt to first team levels, especially in the premiership!!

Hear hear Kelbo. Zurab's about the only seasoned pro we have playing in the reserves, the rest are all youngsters. The only chance they have of getting good experience is by being loaned out to Championship/League One teams.
